Tata Punch | First Drive | AutoYogi

We finally got the opportunity to drive the hotly anticipated mini SUV - Punch. While everything looks alright, it surely lacks the punch that we were expecting. The engine feels lethargic, and it feels even worse with the AMT gearbox. We would recommend everyone to buy the manual transmission variant instead of the AMT. In terms of feature, it's definitely quite loaded. It shares its platform and powertrain - ALFA - with its Altroz. As far as the price is concerned, we expect it to be priced between Rs 5.25 lakh - Rs 9 lakh.

Your Reviews are always Spot on. You are right Tata Car are body shell ready, good cabin space and with good ride comforts but lacks dearly in Engine Refinements hence higher NVH levels which is the heart of the Car. Their Customer Services are poor & offers you worst After Sales Services experiences. I do accept there are no complete cars made for you but Tata lacks in Heart & Hospital (Engine & After-Sales Services)

With our mentality where life is cheap but the possessions like these aren't, most of us just won't value a relatively safe travel over make believe "engine refinements". 90% of the people talk about cars or have opinions about them as they are going to be the next quarter mile drag racers or NASCAR drivers. 95% of the life of a car spends standing still and parked. For the 95% of remaining the 5% time, we don't drive for pleasure, we drive for work and obligations. It's tough to argue and show most people what priorities should be in one's life.

A humble opininon: 1. SUV should not mean a diesel powertrain. We all are aware of the polluting nature of diesel. This mindset should change. 2. Most of the highways I've driven, south of India, have max. speed limit of 100 km/h. Therefore, the point of keen driving should not be an issue if we all adhere to the speed limits for our safety. You're first impression somehow did not seem to do justice from average diriving habits. Hope a detailed review would be conducted from the prespective of a normal drivers like us

My grievances with TaMo are -Very wide wheel arcs with tiny tires ! -the struts poking out in the boot - 3 cylinders. 4 could be smoother and have a punch. -Plastic quality / overall built quality. Wishing TaMo a great success!

TATA cars have come a long way (pretty impressive though) as far as their designs go. But I have one recurring complaint with regards to back profile of their cars, especially the Nexon and this one, the Punch. While their fronts look aggressively appealing, their backs look like a fancy auto rickshaw from 2050. In comparison, the backs of the likes of Sonet and XUV300 look more aggressive and pretty well suited to their aggressive front profile increasing the overall appeal quotient of theirs.

20:05 WagonR, Alto K10 का Power to weight ratio Tata Punch, Tiago की तुलना में ज्यादा है इसलिये वो safety कम, लेकिन driving में sporty feel और ज्यादा फ्यूल efficiency देते हैं। कभी किसी को मुकम्मल जहाँ नहीं मिलता | कहीं ज़मीन कहीं आसमाँ नहीं मिलता। Saftey चाहिए तो फ्यूल efficiency भूल जाएं वरना प्लास्टिक से बनी कार तो है ही ज्यादा driving pleasure और mileage देने के लिए।

Very well said, brakes are not great, even I felt car would bang the one in front as we need to press hard. There's delay in initial pick up but it's mini SUV with 3 cylinders so delay is expected. AC is good and then those horn switches not in right place or it's very hard at centre of steering. Pot holes are taken care very well but engine noise is there, again it's because of 3 cylinders, power windows switches are as though I made for pre school kids, tiny ones. Magnite is value for money than this but Nissan customer service is bad when compared to our TATA. Bonnet of Punch is as heavy as Nexon which impressed me.

I had a Tiago and felt the same jurks and lack of refinement while driving. I now drive the Swift and there is huge difference in refinement and smoothness of the 1.2 K series engine of the Swift.

Very detailed and honest review. Thanks for that. Tata Punch looks an impressive car. However, I have two queries. And mostly many would have these queries. 1. Why Tata never comes up with all engine options (1.2 naturally aspirated & 1.2 turbo) and both transmission options (manual & at least AMT in turbo if not DCT/CVT/Torque Convertor) at the time of the launch itself? They should at least keep a top model in Turbo with manual and AMT both. Same as of Nexon. 2. Why Tata is not coming up with 4 cylinder petrol engines? P.S. Your "ICN Explains" videos are really very informative.

Wow what a review. Just for viewers information : Tata punch is 5star GCAP safety rating.. Highest safety car above nexon and mahindra xuv both in adult and child safety. Another point I want to mention is engine performance and build quality will be inversely proportional most of time for all cars.. If you have good build quality body of car it will make car heavier and engine performance will decrease for heavier car.. Tata chooses build quality and driver and family safety above engine performance.. Exactly opposite of maruti brand.. So be aware and take precautions before choosing other brand than Tata on comparison of engine underpowered and slow. Be aware that what you will compromise for good performance engine. Thank you. Front design looks very good, macho and bold. Rear design looks like hatchback. On the whole it gives a hatchback feel than a SUV feel. Not sure how it looks in person.

Please include night shots/drives of the cars too. Or in some dark place. How the lights look at night, their performance. If cabin, boot or glovebox lights are sufficient. How the cabin is lit. Headlight performance seems to be overlooked by reviewers as well as manufacturers. Another important part of safety.

Excellent Anchoring Vikas Bhai but i beg to differ on few points performance is not the only thing we buy car we indians buy car for family safety few features and price also matters and i guess Marutis and Hyundai Cars gives performance but they are tin cans in safety you dont feel secure they lack this very basic feature that TATA never misses and the price of TATA Cars is very good as compared to Maruti and HYUNDAI which only build cars of fancy showoffs while TATA cares for budget of indian families as well. I can afford to have normal performance but cannot afford to have 0 safety like Maruti or HYUNDAI and not to forget the price at which PUNCH is coming it is the best. TATA is the best

Seriously we need a turbo petrol engine and 4 cylinder engine optimization. Power figure is not enough. Rest everything is great.

Not having rear AC vents is a really big blunder because it's simply a basic necessity in India. Hyundai gives it even in Santro. USB/12V chargers are not necessity but rear AC vents... Bad
