How do you make sure the steering wheel is lined back up properly if it spins in order to make sure the clock spring doesn’t break.

There are really only two options. The easy option is to plug a scan tool in and find the steering angle sensor. Get the reading to zero and then push the wheels so they line up straight with the steering shaft before you slip it on. The other option is to pull the steering wheel and clock spring, install the knuckle, then gently turn the steering shaft all the way to lock in one direction, then all the way to lock in the other direction counting the revolutions. Divide the number in half, and you will be at zero. You will probably have to unhook the knuckle again and straighten the wheels to line up with the shaft at zero.

Well I did what you said not do that is letting the steering wheel move nothing happened and I thought I had averted disaster. Was not the case weeks down the road I snapped the coil spring is there anyway to replace the clock spring with not snapping the new one? Or would putting a new one in kind or reset the springs location relative to the shaft. Thanks in you could help

Ken tells me that, yes, putting in a new clock spring will reset the location relative to the shaft. The difficult part will be removing the steering wheel. But all the parts stores will carry the steering wheel removal tools you'll need. Most will have them on their loan-a-tool program so you won't have to purchase them.

If I have adjusted the Allen bolt all the way because I didn't know what I was doing did I ruin the steering box? Never drove it but I saw this video and I know I messed up.

Very little adjustment on that equates to a big difference in tightness of turn. Your best bet if you haven't driven it is to get the adjustment back to where it was if you can (try looking at the clean spot on the adjuster bolt where the nut originally was), then adjust it slightly, drive it, adjust it a little more if needed, drive it, rinse and repeat until the steering feels as tight as any other car. You shouldn't have a huge amount of turn with very little input on the steering wheel. If you drive it much with the adjuster fully tightened, it is possible you can destroy the gear box. As long as you didn't drive it far with it adjusted all the way in, you probably haven't done any damage yet.

Chrysler part number is 55351281AB. Price is going to vary depending on where you are, but around our area it ranges anywhere from around $165 to $220.

Great video. Will this be the same on a Tj? Gonna check out my steering shaft tomorrow. I have some play in the steering wheel and it wanders on the road a bit. All suspension components r new down to the Axle u joints

It will be a different part number, obviously, but yes, it should be the same process for the TJ. The steering components in the Wrangler haven't changed much over the years.
