I wish I could tat with such ease as you. I know practice makes perfect, but I seem to have so much trouble. I do needle tatting, but the finished work isn’t as fine as with a bobbin. I just love. Your work and watch all that I can. Thanks for all your videos.

Untatting rings has been successful for me only once! Your untatting is just as graceful as all your other teaching video techniques. Thank you for being such a great teacher!

Wonderful to see this tutorial! I did have to untat some but it went smoothly because it did not include the small ring. Whew! I have 9 large rings and will press forward, tonight. It is cold here is the state of Washington...but no snow.

Glad to hear it's going well Maria... I'm now at 25 large rings on mine. I'm only doing a little bit at a time, here and there in between doing other things. What colour have you chosen for yours? We're having cold spell too!

@@11Frivole I, too, am tatting a bit here and there...(13 large rings). I wanted to use a shade of purple or green but only had a ball of each size 20. I am using sz 20 Lizbeth color 601 (I think it is white). Did I tell you, I found a copy of the magazine with the crochet pattern for the cuffs you made? Do you recall the yards to grams in your laceweight yarn you used? If not, I’m sure I could figure it out once I bring the magazine downstairs and have a good look, again.

@@knackfulknitter Hi Maria, I just weighed my doily and it weighs 23 grams so you might have had enough with your one ball of purple or green! However, it would have been infuriating to run out just close to the end so perhaps it was wise to go with your white. Ah, glad you found the Mollie Makes magazine, you're planning on making the cuffs then? Rialto lace has 429 yards per 50g ball (does that help?).

@@11Frivole , exactly, Joëlle, what I was worried about...running out of the color for the doily. Good to know the weight so I can compare to when I finish. Yes, I want to make those lovely and feminine cuffs! I will look to see what yarns are comparable and stay away from Jaggerspun with too many yards. Thank you for the yardage. :)

I just started this doily. It's very laborious for me, but I am absolutely in love with Victorian sets!

Hi Ariane, very glad to hear you are enjoying it (even if laborious). :-) What colour are you using for yours?

@@11Frivole I am using Lizbeth's variegated thread (#20, too!) In Purple Iris Fusion. I really love the effect of variegated thread and, as someone prone to being distracted, I find that the slight variations in color make it easier to undo my stiches

@@paper_maiden Sounds good and I wish there was some way for people to show me their doilies as we go along! It's nice to hear back from people who are tatting it.

I saddled this mad horse to learn shuttle tatting WITH This PATTERN, after needle tatting for about 7 years! 🤪🤣😂 I'm learning more by UNtatting than the actual tatting. Patience, patience, patience... 😂🤣🌄 But I'n slowly getting there! Thanks a lot for your tutorials. I'm impatient to start with the next row, but can't find the pattern. Please HELP!
@11Frivole4 жыл бұрын
Hello Carlien, there is a link to the pattern in the information box below the video. Just click on "show more" and you'll see all the information. The link to the video about the first round is in the top right corner of the video (click on the little "i" in a white circle). Good luck with shuttle tatting, I hope you enjoy it!

Ahhhww I get this pain! But that exact pain has and is making me every time to be MORE MORE patient and cautious and focused on my next step! We make mistakes its okey, it's when we try, try again, and get to overcoming them that we learn more and become stronger, more comfortable or confident.

Quite right - "untatting" is not the easiest to do so of course it's better not to make mistakes... but occasional ones are inevitable!

I hate untatting, just about as much as I hate weaving in ends. Also, is there a pattern for those cuffs you are wearing?
@11Frivole4 жыл бұрын
I have to agree with you: I do not like un-tatting either! But sometimes, it cannot be avoided. I don't enjoy weaving ends either and that's why I have lots of tricks to avoid doing so (do you use magic loops?). Yes, there is a pattern for the cuffs I'm wearing, I'll add the information to the box below the video (if you give me a bit of time to find it!).

I often have to get tweezers for untatting rings - pulling the core thread with a hook pulls both ends, tightening the last stitch and making it harder to pull the core thread. If I can get a good grip on the core thread with tweezers, I can pull it in one direction and prevent the end stitch from tightening down so much it's hard to undo.
@11Frivole4 жыл бұрын
The tweezers is a good idea but I'm usually ok with just my fingers. I also found in the past that it can be easier to break the thread with tweezers. Yes, you are right that you have to be careful not to overly tighten the last stitch of the ring but if it happens I use a pin to loosen it again.
