I completely agree with every point you made, and that blowdryer idea is genius. For people that want tattoos but are plagued by the idea of regret, I just want to echo what you said about eventually tuning them out and loving them as an extension of yourself, but also add my perspective of getting tattoos. I get a tattoo after every big life event -whether it's a changing of surroundings, of lessons learned, of a fresh new start, etc. Your body can be a scrapbook of the things that were important for you to go through and to remember. You can't regret a tattoo when it's linked to a point in your life that really helped make you YOU.

LOL. Your comment about negotiating reminds me of my amazing Israeli hairstylist who was in Beverly Hills on Canon Boulevard. I was a loyal customer who had followed him from one salon to the next. I always booked at off hours and I'm a guy with super easy hair cuts. I always just make sure that the stylists have great scissor technique and I let them do whatever they want. And one day, I called up and, for some reason, maybe because he's foreign, or is used to bargaining in his culture, he thought I was asking for a discount. But I was totally not trying to ask for a discount. "You want a discount? Okay. I give you a discount." So, I didn't refuse...because who refuses a discount...but at the same time...I wondered if this was going to damage our relationship. So much anxiety!

I agree with the first point about not listening to those "will you like this when you are 80' comments and just getting what you like, but i think its also important that people getting a tattoo shouldn't just get a tattoo for the sake of getting a tattoo, they should think about what they are gonna permanently put on their body, whether it be something silly and fun, or something with deep meaning, tattoos should require some thought.

Coming from someone in the tattoo industry... make sure you don't use sunscreen/spf products on your tattoos until AFTER they're healed. Stick to simple lotions/moisturizers like Aquafor or unscented Lubriderm until the full 3-4 weeks it takes for your tattoo to heal. All sunscreens will tell you not to use them on open wounds/cuts and a healing tattoo is no exception.

I personally would suggest getting tattoos in the winter if you are a big beach goer, long exposure to sun or soaking in water can effect the coloration and sometimes the healing of the tattoo. if you get a tattoo during the summer im sure the artist will advise covering it while at the beach for the entire healing process.

I was chatting w/ a friend about the evolution of tatoos and how they are now everywhere and on everyone, particularly young folks He said, "A tattoo is a permanent reminder of a temporary emotion." So, I do think worrying about when you are 80 isn't much of a concern. Just celebrate making it to 80!! But, perhaps you should consider when you are 30, 35, 40 or 50. I'm personally very happy I skipped on the Batman logo! Ha! 💛

Best bet is to listen to your Tattoo Artist for aftercare. again they're the professional. If you have tattoo's already you'll know how your body heals so follow your normal aftercare.
