You guys rock. I've bee. tattooing professionally out of a shop for over a year now. I started off self taught for a year. in 2 months time in a shop I learned more than they year I did on N.Y. own. I did learn alot being self taught. I could perform very clean tattoos. k locked up some bad habits. my mentor broke me pretty quick AND now I can focus on my art in the tattoo because I know I'm doing it right. so guys get an apprenticeship. learn the right way. thanks jake and David. you guys are awesome

upto 7-9 a round shader is really nice for single pass lines guys. If you go bigger it tends to not go in from the first time, or you machine seems like it's running properly or too soft for it. So u end up running ur machine faster and then cause 'aftermath' blowouts. At least that's what i've found out with very big round shaders. u don't see anything at first, but when the client comes back couple weeks later you'll see some blowouts. + for colouring smaller stuff. I personally don't really like to colour small stuff with magnums. U use straights they tend to colour too much on the sides, and when u use soft edge mags, they tend to colour too soft. While a round shader if you're using the right technnique, know ur machine and power suply can put in colour single pass and stay in no problem ..

Interesting tho, I saw one of those slow motion UTubes that did slo-mo of tattooing and they have proved, figured out (?) that durring the process of tattooing very little ink goes in the hole in the skin durring the in stroke. It is after the exit stroke of the needle while the hole in the skin is still a hollow area in the skin (a hole) and before the skin whole collapses that hole has created a vacuum inwhich then the ink is drawn into (sucked into the vacuum created by the needle making a hole) the skin hole as that hole collapses back in on itself. Very interesting eh? I would love to see more research done on the placing of pigments in the skin and I would also like to see some peer review on that ink-suction theory to see if the experiment can be recreated. It may be an innovation point for the tattoo and PM industries.

Gotta disagree with you on one point..ha pun intended...If you want to get technical..like you said in the beginning of the video..There is no such thing as a liner or a shader...that is what the supplly companies call them..you can and do line with a shader and vice versa....The real technical term..the way I was taught is a tight and a loose....a loose round or a tight round...same with mags ..gimme a tight round 7 please...lol..or, I use a loose round 5 to build up my lines...Since no one makes their own needles anymore. You can thank the supply companies for the new terminology.

Categorizing is a natural trait of humanity brother. You could through ideas and concepts around and make sure to keep that information secure and segregated, as information and concepts were in the tattoo world for decades, but since it’s a world wide trend now, it’s natural to standardize and simplify concepts, for the benefit of communication....this would be a very technical approach to your disagreement...

would you use a curved magnum to pack color or pack black or both?...when would you use a standard magnum over a curved one or do you just use curved magnums and thats it?
@FiresideTattooNetwork6 жыл бұрын
I think its a personal preference. Curved mags allow for very smooth color blends. Standard mags allow you to work into corners more easily. Just play around with both and see what you prefer... Or just use both!

Such a great show. Keep going and it will be big. Perhaps so big everyone may actually love America for this. hahahah it would be awesome. Aside from solving world peace :) you folks are making inspired tattoo artist be the best they can be for those who want to apply the time and to see there is a lot of Tattoo study. The Artist Terminalogy and attention to technical Tattoo detail helps tremendously. God Speed

Thank you, you two are great source of useful information. I like the idea of the curved mag a lot. However one thing that is really bothering me is how exactly does one solder a woven mag? Is the woven mag the only shader that requires this process? Any feed back would be appreciated, thanks.
@FiresideTattooNetwork7 жыл бұрын
I've never tried to build a curved mag but I assume that the needle jig is just machined to the curve and you stack needles into it the same way you would when building a normal mag or flat shader.

Just curious, you guys didn't say anything about the differences between a soft edge magnum and a curved magnum and a round magnum. I've seen some companies selling all three so I assume these are not different names for the same configuration but actually 3 different needle configurations. What specifically is their differing functionality? Thanks for all the insight. Yours truly SaRa.
@FiresideTattooNetwork5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Different manufacturers seem to have their own terms for needle configurations. I am only aware of traditional mags and curved mags. I have not heard of a soft edge mag but I assume it is another name for a curved mag. A round shader isn't typically referred to as a mag as far as I know but it's possible that some manufacturer has started using that term.

When I was an apprentice I hated making needles. In metal setups white and light colors will discolor after awhile of use. More so with textured needles. They act like sandpaper. As an apprentice in the late 80's first I had to learn to build my machine, then make needles,plus all the other BULLSHIT setups, breakdowns, autoclave, clean toilets and mop floors. All the while drawing when I had a chance.

0-00-000- mean ott. ie. 0 means single ott, 00 is double ott and 000 mean triple ott that is the technical classifications of zero and minus -0 gauges. So quit tripping over your zeros now fellas. You are very welcome.

To me round shaders are garbage for anything in the old days that’s what we learned with garbage I can’t use them inn the old days we did not have what they have now they have it made now cartridges pen style tattoo machines you guys have it made we use to set for hours and make our needles so all these guys got it made like I say we use to use a tight 3 and flat 6 I learned on flat 6 never touched s round after we would take a flat 6 and spread it would get some really good shading out of them things have changed so much the new guy is laughing now days every thing a guy could want the color is great nowadays the colors we use to have from Spaulding were terrible the concoction s we use to try lol same with black making a good black we used to have to be chemists lol like listening to your podcast I’m 60 now and I tattoo a little bit been tattooing over the years since late 80s I prefer Mithras for ther needles I was up ther in Markham on the weekend grabbed a bunch of supply’s good show

A tight a loose and a flat.. thats what we called them back in the 70s. Today i dont think tattooists even use flats! If they did theyd probably slice you open , because i bet 99 percent of todays tattooists or tattoo artist really know how to use the flats. Just mags now a days. Spauliding powdered pigment brings back memories LOL. Powdered pigment and listerine or vodka!
