I started smoking cannabis 18 years ago as a teenage, later switched to cigarettes. Spent my whole life fighting Cigarettes addiction. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Got diagnosed with cptsd. Cigarettes addiction actually destroyed my life. Not until my wife recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 6 years totally clean. Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms.

It's funny because people say Marijuana is a gateway drug. I've never smoked Marijuana a day in my life. My first drug was coke. At the age of 13 I was addicted to powder cocaine. I've been to over 20 rehab centers. I'm 25 now and I've been clean for 3 years. Good is good!

I started smoking weed in my teens. Smoked almost every day for 40 years then quit. Haven't smoked for 4 years. I tried coke once, LSD, mescaline and shrooms a few times in my teens only. So pot is not a gateway as far as I'm concerned.

Gateway drugs don't exist, but this isn't a valid argument. No one said you need to use cannabis first to try other drugs. The argument about gateway drugs is that they encourage you to use other drugs, not that you NEED to use a gateway drug to try other drugs.

I totally agree. I used to think weed was healthier than cigarettes (maybe it, is, I'm not gonna argue with people), and I smoked all day everyday. But when I finally stopped smoking (probation reasons), I realized how much more motivation and energy I had. And when I was in my 20s I couldn't remember ANYTHING. I had the memory retention of an 80 yr old. My memory has came back, finally. And yes, I have seen people sell all their stuff and fiend out just to get a little bag of weed, feeling like they were afraid to NOT smoke daily. I still agree with legalization/decriminalization of ALL DRUGS. That's my opinion. The war on drugs isn't working, never has.

This is a sign. Im 2 weeks not smoking weed after being a daily smoker for the better part of 14 years. I turned 30 a couple months ago. I have just spent the last hour talking to my younger brother who is also a regular pot smoker, who is saying he wants to quit but really isnt confident in himself. Its fuckin hard. But i said nothing worth having is easy thats why the small wins feel so good. The only person who can make the change is yourself. He was saying maybe we can stop together. I said no way, im not attributing my small gains to anybody else because the minute you fuck up ill use it as an excuse to drag myself back to hell. Weed can be great for some in moderation. Nothing is good for you in excess. But the answer is all within yourself. Only you can make the right choices. Its hard i have days where my mind convinces me i can just cut down. But im being honest with myself now and i know that will never ever happen. I thank god my addiction isnt with a more serious drug. Anyone struggling, if you want something so much you are the only one whos gonna get yourself there.

I’ve been smoking every single day for the past three years and I can reaffirm that pot is definitely addictive. I find it really hard to quit and have not decided to do it yet. You fall in love with the taste, the smell, and of course the high. It becomes a habit that is hard to break.
@chrisbfreelance3 жыл бұрын
If something changes the way you think, suppresses or heightens emotions then it can be addictive. I used to smoke a lot in my early twenties at university, I quickly noticed whenever I didn't have it I craved it, I'd become accustomed to not having a clear head. I stopped smoking due to circumstance, I then replaced the high with day drinking, and my addict self emerged in the form of an alcoholic. 10 years drinking daily, any chance I could get, most days a litre of spirits was normal, all whilst living a fully "functional" life. I certainly can't drink again, but I also have no intention of taking or smoking anything else, because once that high ends, my old faithful alcohol is waiting for me everywhere in society, cheap and ready to destroy my life again. Chillies are my only drug now, chase the heat, and two years sober from alcohol. Good luck to anyone struggling, choose life, only you can put it down and keep it down.

I applaud this man’s story. And I vouch for his statement on cannabis being habit forming. It can definitely be addictive based on long term use, mental and environmental factors. And it’s something that is just not taken seriously which is strange, because if you can become addicted to gambling, you can become addicted to almost anything.
@themechaniacal15583 жыл бұрын
Habitual addiction to cannabis is not taken seriously because it is not inherently destructive. People hooked through habit can quit much easier if they know they can, you don't have to be subject to your own emotion. That said many people think that's just who they are, they don't understand their own power to change.

I had lost custody to my son because i was smoking out of control. Everytime he would lay down to sleep i was outside smoking. Then i convinced myself i was a better mom when i was high. Even after i lost him i was using marijuana to help cope with mental abuse from his father and an unbearable pain of losing a child that is still living that i had caused.. Now he is 3 and im still trying to get him back in my arms. I had to cut ties with the babys father and heal myself without turning to drugs. My current boyfriend has helped alot and moved me closer to getting my son back. I do believe it is all about your mindset and enviroment. And everyone says " oh i can stop today!" imma heavy weed smoker. In my opinion Tobacco paper usage makes it way more addicting then using just papers or a bowl or a bong. The down side to weed is you can grow dependent on it as any other medication not as harmful but the bank account will suffer and that feeling of just checking out and not wanting to b bothered becomes ver real and a comfortable zone. I myself am trying to take a break at the moment but its comforting. I got this though just have to be more discpline.

I'm so tired of hearing people say pot isn't addictive. I was addicted to coke in college and after I managed to quit I got hooked on weed and it took 20 years to get off of it. The withdrawals were much worse than cocaine. The whole time I had to work crappy jobs with a college degree because around here every decent job tested for it and most still do even though it's legal now. The only reason I stopped was because I spent every cent I had on weed and couldn't pay my bills so wound up homeless and not able to afford to get any. I don't know how much I smoked exactly but I know I went through a pound and 4 ounces the last month I smoked. Every time I tried getting off of it I got: -tremors. - hot and cold flashes. - sweating profusely and nasty smelling sweat I've never smelt the likes of before. - no appetite and much of what I forced myself to eat I puked so I was on just v8 and whole milk to survive. - dry heaving. - crap myself if I got too far from a toilet. - Muscle cramps and spasms - extreme temper issues - incoherent thoughts changing constantly like trying to watch tv but somebody's changing the channel every 10 seconds. - almost no sleep, maybe 2 hours a night if lucky. Probably more I'm forgetting.

I was clean for a year and a half, but it didn't make any real positive difference in my eyes. Still had breakdowns. Still had suicidal thoughts pretty much all the time. I am aware that every substances affects everyone differently tho, so if you were able to pinpoint your issues arouse around the same time you started smoking then ya I suppose you shouldn’t smoke :\

Phillyyyy! Finally. Hi Charles--I was adopted at a young age in the same area outside Philly. I can relate to the areas you're referring to, and I also experienced abuse. I only smoke cannabis at night, but it does help me. I completely understand it can be addictive. I'm glad you pointed that out. It's not for everyone. A person can be addicted to anything that's not a drug and it can have a major impact on their life, and mental illness is no joke. Thank you so much for sharing your story and your transparency. Hang in there, please.

From ages 12-23 I smoked every waking moment possible. Epitomy of addictive behavior, mood swings when I didn't have it, etc. But at 23 I developed severe anxiety and PTSD that wouldn't stop and the weed was making it worse. Just the past 3 years I've began smoking again but only at bedtime really, helps me fall asleep comfortably. I can make ANYTHING addictive- because that's the nature of my personality. Sex, food, playing my guitar- HEROIN AND FENTYNL. I'm not just addicted to heroin I had to do 100 times harder than everyone I know around me. Not on purpose but like I say it's addictive personality. Everyone's on a different part of the spectrum. Good day peeps-

As someone who regularly smokes pot, it definitely can be habit forming and it can be incredibly hard to quit. I had a friend in the mid-2000s that we watched in real-time get schizophrenia through our teenage years that was likely influenced by marijuana. He was the most talented guitar player and skateboarder I'd ever seen at this age. Almost like a savant from 14-17, eventually, he started going into these catatonic states where he wouldn't communicate or acknowledge anyone talking to him. Wide-eyed and unresponsive, it was a little jarring at that age. He's on medication now from what I've heard but has a tough life undoubtedly. It just affects everyone so differently.
