I have been an avid listener from the beginning and I really appreciated this video, thank you. I've known for a while now that my sleep schedule and my utter disdain for confrontation has been one of my biggest points of procrastination. So to hear you say that and what you did about it gave me the push I needed to make a change. Please keep up the good work, it has been a huge help to my career and to me personally.

That waking up early thing is no joke... Aside from working on drawing/tattooing, I work at a restaurant too and we don't have to be there til 3:30. That means that I don't have to get up early at all. That being said, the days when I sleep in and then fuck around at home til 3:30 are the worst. I feel like shit and then I'm not totally there. THe days when I DO wake up early and get some art done (like during Inktober, when there were more deadlines), then go to work, I feel so ***confident*** and amazing. I have to start doing that more and hearing you feel a similar thing makes me wanna actually set an alarm.

Great topic Jake! I don’t watch enough of your videos these days but I love the topics you address and what’s more admirable is your dedication to help tattooing in general. Keep it up !

Thanks Jake. Appreciate everything you put out! You are and your crew were formative in me being the tattooer I am today. If it wasn't for all the fireside podcasts I don't know that I would have even felt confident enough started tattooing! You truly are making a difference in peoples lives.

**** If you guys watching feel the same as me, go give this Fireside some Patreon money. They works so hard at putting out this content ! And I can assure from experience the KZbin revenue they gets is a joke (I have other bigger YT channels). We are talking like less than 100 dollars a month. It's not nearly enough to consider it "worth it" They do this because they want to and you have to love em for it. Even if only 4% of the subscribers to this channel gave 1$ per month That would $1600 a month. And I think we can all agree the crew here deserves to be paid something for all there time. If your reading this, go give them a buck a month. I'm sure they've given you more value than in your life.

Could not agree more! Finding your channel could not have come at a better time for me, since I recently decided to listen to my tattoo artist and start looking for an apprenticeship. Confidence in my abilities as an artist was the only reason why I never tried to become a tattoo artist before (which has always been a dream of mine). If I could get your 2 cents on my work so far, I would be eternally grateful!

I like this video, -initially my heart dropped when you mentioned confidence as I struggle with that a lot. In fact, one of the reasons I've always drawn was because I viewed it as my only worthshile attribute that attracted people to me. Im grateful that the shop I apprentice at is really cool in thay both my mentor and the other artist both help me by giving honest, clear feedback on my work and also how I can approach situations that stress me out. Its kind of embarassing but one of the main things they've made me more aware of is remembering to eat, as well as to make sure I get enough rest, and other basic self care things that I kind of lost after 11 years of being strung out. I'm getting an education not in just art/tattooing, but coping with life in general through this, and I almost let my fear of being rejected for the one thing I prided myself in prevent me from walking through those doors with my portfolio.

I struggle a lot with those feelings of not being good enough as an artist. Its amazing how you can look at the same painting/tattoo in two different moods and either feel okay about it or think its awful. I try and ignore everything nowadays and just keep drawing. Thanks for this one 🤙 fr. -Peter Sky

This one really resonated with me. Becoming a great tattooer starts with being the best version of yourself in and out of the shop. You should check out Roy Williams and the wizard academy (it’s not a Harry Potter school haha). This man is brilliant and is paid to fly around worldwide and basically tell people what to do with their businesses. The campus is outside of Austin Texas and is HUGE and just beautiful. It’s not cheap but it’s a weekend long. They house and feed you, whiskey tastings after class one night. They’ll pour you wine or you can grab a beer during class. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever been apart of. You would love it!

Fantastic video. I think confidence is huge in tattooing. It's something that I've been trying to instill in myself for a while. Especially in regards to showing my work on social media. I always feel as if it isn't good enough. Been wanting to try a similar confidence boosting exercise you described. Definitely want to give this a try and see how it works for me. Thank you!

Dude so good you got my attention when you said you use dan kubin ;) my setup is the xion for shading and coloring and dk swingliner for lining. I just feel like the xion or other rotarys just dont line that good. With my dk i can barely touch the skin and get beautiful saturated lines. It feels even with cartriges like i am using a coil but with less vibration and more lightweight. I wish my xion could do that. Id love to have 1 machine for everything but there just is no such thing. The xion struggles more with softer skin. Especially with single pass lining wich is what i usually do. Have you tried those machine ? Did you experience something similar when comparing it to dk or coil liners?
@FiresideTattooNetwork
@FiresideTattooNetwork 6 жыл бұрын
I honestly don't experiment much with machines. I tend to get used to what I am using and just stick with it. I've been using the Cheyenne pen for several years but you are right. The Kubin machine feels like I'm lining with a sharpie. Thanks!
