As a black man, my perspective on how people of other races interact with our culture and hairstyles is that it doesn’t bother me at all if people imitate our culture or hairstyles out of respect or admiration for who we are and where we come from or even if they just grew up on things from our culture. That’s what culture is for, to bring people together through some form of relatable matter. What it all boils down to is respect. Just like how Japan allows any and everybody to be a part of and interact with their culture and traditions as long as it’s respected, I feel it’s perfectly fine to do the same with our culture because it just brings a medium to relate to one another despite our differences.

Okay this episode is Gold! 🏅 i really love the red blue purple analogy. And expressing individuality in a place where it feels sometimes closed off.I can definitely relate to that. Keep it up Max!!! Love to see more of your content😊

Great interview! Always so interesting to hear all those different perspectives on your channel! 13:20 A good example might be fry vs. fly. It was too funny when my ex-boyfriend said "We have to close the windows before the fries get in!" 😂😂

Love the thr blue/red/purple analogy - his comments are spot on! And, definitely relate so much with 出る杭は打たれる and adaptability stories, and the need for Japan to open up and let in some breeze change to allow growth/transition.

Isn't the food in Tokyo a mix of food nationwide in Japan? Tokyo is Japan's mecca; it's the place where people from all over Japan go to get high-paying jobs. Those dreamers brought their local foods with them; they shared recipes and made something new. I agree with Isaac. Food in Tokyo (Kanto) is just okay in comparison to the other seven regions in Japan. I'm partial to Kansai-style Japanese food. Kansai-style Japanese food is simple in taste. Japanese food shared in all regions is prepared with much more seasoning in Tokyo. Perhaps it's the dashi (soup stock)--I think Kansai prefers Konbu, but YMMV--but I also think Western Japan prefers white/mixed miso in comparison to the folks in Eastern Japan. In short, food in Tokyo (Kanto) isn't bad, just not as good as regions outside of Kanto =P

Yep, so it wouldn't make sense for Hokkaido to "have better food", as you can get food from any other part of Japan, in Tokyo. But I know where he's coming from because I travel all over Japan. We all have pride in our prefectures, and food is one of the biggest categories when it comes to it.

I think I saw your guest on Takashi (shorts). Please, Africa is not made up of "tribes" only. "Tribe" is defined as a group of people that numbers only about 100000-112000. In Africa, what are called "tribes" are nationalities, or national groups instead. The Bamileke, for instance, can be considered a nationality, not a "tribe". And the Bamilekes are a very dynamic people, and very good business people as well.

How do you expect people will treat you if you look differently than the majority in a country? Do you think many people will treat you the same as everyone else? Probably not. Imagine being in black in America. Imagine what they have to go through while you are speaking about being half-Japanese in Japan. People may not see you very favorably when you look different. Is it good? Not at all, but it is flawed human nature. Even if black African Americans go to Africa, many of them will be treated differently than the majority of the population. Why is this? In some parts of Africa, there is tribalism and classism. What does this tell us? No matter where you go, if you look differently than the majority of the population, expect to be treated differently. Some people have a fear or they are in ignorance about things they don't understand. Many things in Japan should stay the same. Japan should never become like America. Japanese people should never behave like Americans. In my opinion, America is becoming worse and worse. America is not as desirable as it once was. It is probably the new Sodom and Gomorrah. Seriously. Not to say Japan is perfect, but if Japan becomes like America, maybe fewer people would want to come. I like the outward respectfulness in Japan. Even though some may feel differently than the respect they show others. Much of the food is pretty interesting as well.
