Love the tau, besides the imperial guard, I would argue that the tau army is one of the races that we as humans can relate with really well. As they are a young race and have advanced in space. They discovered fire etc. so really they are a future product of us

Always cool to see a massive painted army. Getting a manta is also in my future to buy list, I got a cute Tau army too, which was put on the side to work on my other stuff. Affording the manta isn't a problem, assembling and painting it, is something I cannot do at the moment, I'm a single guy working on my armies, too much other stuff I'm currently working on. Eventually I do hope to take my Tau army to an apoc size, it's hard to resist the urge to build massive armies.

The only detachment I know fielded Mantas is Super-Heavy Detachment on Apocalypse with 5 Mantas as Lords of War with 10k points total

0:16 I must disagree. The manta and a small army are perfect together and would look perfect together. Excluding flight crew from the air cast, the upper flight deck has transport capacity for 40 fire warriors plus ethereal and any attached drones. [The model itself won't fit 40 firewarrirors of course but you can't actually fit 5 terminator models in a landraider model. Hell, one can't even actually fit through the assault ramp door the models are such beefcakes.] The lower cargo deck/ramp that lowers to the ground can fit [and the model actually does fit] 4 hammerheads/devilfish [with devilfish having the ability to be fitted with more fire warriors or pathfinders if you so choose.... A transport carrying a transport. ;)] The lower cargo deck also has a telescopic boom that extends outwards and is a storage rack that supports the storage of 8 crisis suits. The rack extends and deploys the crisis suits in a similar manner to the droid trooper transport tank in star wars. It extends out, deploys a crisis suit then extends out a little further and deploys the next etc... With 40 fire warriors, 4 hammerheads and/or devilfish and 8 crisis suits all backed up by the fire of the manta which includes 18 drone controlled burst cannons, 6 ion cannons, a dozen missile pods and two super-heavy rail guns... Well yeah, you have a very capable army as it is and before deployment, with everything starting in the manta, it takes no more space on the battlefield then the manta itself. Fly the manta in, deploy everything and your half of the table is loaded and ready for battle. It is that way as it is in line with Tau doctrine. They don't field shed loads of guys like the imperium do with the guard using humans as cannon fodder. The Tau don't have endless members of society to draw upon for warriors and thus their style of warfare is different favouring small independent strike groups (cadres). A manta gunship is essentially the command and transport and lifeline for the cadre that it carries. It along with its fighting cargo is an army unto itself. If the ethereals deem the target to be easy pickings, they send one manta carrying one cadre. If its a big problem, they just send more mantas carrying a full cadre each. But again, the small highly efficient units and tactical style stem from not having the endless man(tau)power to draw upon. Hell, three quarters of the species don't even directly fight. Well no, I guess Tau air cast fighter pilots fight but even that is indirectly. With the imperium, it doesn't matter whether you're man woman or child, if the sh*t hits the fan, you have a gun thrust in your hand and you die by the bullet.. As to whether that is a bullet from your enemies or a bullet from your not-so-friendly neighbourhood commissar is entirely up to you. Either way you fight and with over a million human settled worlds, the only race to outnumber man are the orks. The huge army does still look awesome though. Excellent detail. :D

For those wondering about how much it all costs if you were to buy all this yourself today (in current Australian prices I’m not going back several years to find out the old price of this army, sue me) for the plastic models alone I’ll break it down from what I could see: Manta $2420 Commander suit $85 Tiger sharks x2 $760 Devilfish x10 $660 Hammerhead/skyray x8 $680 Riptide x6 $540 Remora x6 $300 Hazard suits x6 $540 Tetras x6 $300 Firewarrior teams x6 $510 Broadsides x6 $444 Crisis suit teams x7 $875 Shadowsun $77 Shas or Alai $90 Ethereal $49 Darkstrider $55 Total just for your plastic crack addiction: $8385 For the paints and commission fee I would estimate another 1-2k, as for shipping all of it maybe about another 500-1000, so taking this into account this army would cost at least 10k maybe around 9k if you were going to paint all this yourself instead.

You can field Manta solo, with all the interior squads and tanks (4-6x) represented on the gaming table, its alot of fun ...mount the manta on larger solid Telescope type mount next to gaming / tournament table...seen this done and its amazing to see :)...beleive its about 1800-2500 points what the Manta carrier onboard :) ... The army above is the pinnacle of that, all the choices that can be made for a 2000p tournament amazing.

Simply Amazing BTP. The last character you covered was Darkstrider, not a Cadre Fireblade. You can tell because of his eyepiece which is a "structural analyzer" which reduces enemies' toughness by 1. Love that color scheme.

I'd like to know the pricetag on this army. The manta alone is about $1750-2000. Most of them are Forgeworld. I'd like to guess at $22000, not including time to paint, materials, and equipment.
