DISCUSSION SUMMARY AND NOTES The Syrian Revolution and its Aftermath The Syrian Revolution has led to a significant shift in the country, with many people, including journalists, flocking to Damascus, and the regime falling in just 12 days 01:34. The sudden and widespread support for the revolution, with people from all walks of life, including barbers and cleaners, putting aside their differences to fight, is seen as a push from Allah 02:38. The Western media's portrayal of Ahmed Abu Muhammad Alani, the leader of HTS, as a moderate jihadist, has been noted, with some attributing this to a successful PR machine 05:42. Despite the progress made, there are still remnants of Bashar's regime, and many prisons, including Seda prison, remain to be dismantled, with some areas still being no-go zones 07:30. Syrians are generally happy with the current situation, but there are concerns about the speed of normalization and the potential for outside influence, with some questioning the role of foreign governments 09:25. Many Syrians are relieved that Bashar Assad's regime has been removed, but they fear he might return or that external forces, such as Israel, could intervene 10:16. Some Syrians, particularly intellectuals, question the deals that may have been made to achieve the current situation, but they also acknowledge that these deals could be positive for the people of Syria and the Muslim world 11:49. The Nature and Significance of the Revolution The speaker believes that the Muslim world needs to go through a process of development and that the current situation in Syria is a step in the right direction, even if it's not perfect 15:01. The speaker considers the Syrian revolution to be a "blessed revolution" due to its strong Islamic undercurrent and the fact that it was born out of the Arab Spring 17:14. The speaker attributes the success of the revolution to the fact that it was organic and driven by the people, with chants of "This is for Allah" being a natural expression of their sentiments 19:39. HTS and the Rebel Factions The possibility of HTS being de-listed as a terrorist organization by Western governments could set a legal precedent for appealing the revocation of a UK passport 20:44. The Syrian people do not view HTS as a prescribed group, and many are supportive of the rebel factions, with some even seeing them as a means to bring stability and security to the region 25:15. The rebel factions are slowly coming together under the umbrella of the existing transitional government, with the exception of the YPG, and there are talks of disarming and creating a national army 27:47. The goal of national unification and bringing the country together is being discussed, with the possibility of the rebel factions becoming the Syrian Army, but there are still challenges and potential for infighting 29:01. The Future of Syria and the Transition Government The Syrian Revolution's future is uncertain, with concerns about potential infighting among Muslim groups, but there is a sense of unity among the people, with some leaders coming together in Damascus 31:05. The transition government faces a huge task, with questions about how to consolidate power and bring criminals to account, including those responsible for massacres 32:10. Bashar Al Assad, considered a war criminal, should face the death penalty and be held accountable for his actions 34:49. The Charity Sector and its Shortcomings The charity sector has shortcomings, with many organizations being third-party fundraisers that don't implement projects themselves, leading to a lack of embeddedness with the communities they serve 37:07. A proposed alternative is for charities to build teams and embed themselves within the communities, having infrastructure and systems in place to ensure effective aid distribution 37:38. Many UK charities lack the resources, logistics, and influence to deliver aid directly, but instead of partnering with local organizations, they often try to do it themselves, which can lead to mismanagement and exploitation 39:38. Charities can be categorized into three types: fundraising charities, transit charities, and implementation partners, with few charities able to do all three effectively 41:29. Primary relief, such as providing food and tents, is not a long-term solution for communities in need, and charities should focus on education, training, and development projects to help people become self-sufficient 45:43. Charities claiming to have a 100% donation policy may be using it as a marketing tool, and this model can limit their ability to provide long-term solutions 46:57. Some charities may be exploiting the concept of 100% donation, and it's essential to understand that even zakat is not 100% donation, as some funds are allocated for administrative costs 47:32. Masculinity, Charity, and True Struggle The emphasis on masculinity and fear can lead some individuals to engage in activities like MMA and boxing, which can be problematic and stem from an inferiority complex 48:19. The issue with Muslim public figures engaging in charity fights is that it can be seen as theatrics and a false display of bravery, rather than a genuine struggle for the sake of Allah 48:43. The Syrian Revolution and the struggle against the oppressive regime is a just cause, and some people are more focused on talking about it rather than taking action 50:50. Muslim public figures should visit conflict zones and engage in real struggles for the sake of Allah, rather than just participating in charity fights or talk shows 52:40. There is a problem with some people creating a false sense of bravado and delusions of grandeur, especially when they condemn those who are on the front lines of the struggle 54:59. Speech and defending Islam on talk shows is important, but it is not on the same level as physically struggling for the sake of Allah 55:32. Concluding Remarks and Gratitude The host expresses gratitude for having a guest on the show after 4 years, and they finally met in person in Damascus, considering it a special episode. 57:54 The guest's visit was risky, as it's still dangerous, and some people are waiting for them, preferring to wait until Damascus airport opens before traveling. 58:23 The host hopes the episode will be the first of many visits and thanks the guest for coming, also expressing a desire for men in the Muslim community to have the belief of sacrifice and to aspire to make positive changes. 58:44

SubhanAllah, this podcast brought me to tears. This is exactly what the ummah needs - real rijaal, grounded in sincerity. Less theatrics, less attachment to the dunya, and more sacrifice and zuhd. As someone living in the West, this hit me deeply. May Allah forgive us all for our countless shortcomings. Brother Tox speaks from a perspective that many of us have never encountered. May Allah bless and preserve him and everyone working to uplift the ummah. Ameen

Tauqir isn't wrong with what he's saying near the end. When it comes to real battles, the brothers in the UK would avoid it due to the fear of losing their citizenship etc and that's okay, each to their own. But to void that by calling out a racist and boxing for charity to make you feel like a big man is nothing comparable to what the real brave hearts are doing. Tauqir is a much braver brother than we are and we should accept that, they earned it while we're calling out racists and boxing for bogus charity organisations.

Brother Tauriq is speaking from a perspective of spending 13 years of his life, witnessing the desperate need of support that the Syrian people had, under the tyrannical Assad regime. And I’m sure he’s experienced countless moments of feeling helpless, that he doesn’t have the resources and manpower needed to help. So he isn’t necessarily downplaying the efforts of other Muslims who are striving for the sake of Allah in the capacity they can in the West, by attending talk shows and what not, but rather I think a sincere frustration can be observed in him regarding all the times he couldn’t help due to a lack of resources and manpower, which came out when the topic of Muslim du’aat organising charity fights came up (which I fully agree with him in terms of it not being the best thing to do - in terms of normalising the hitting of the face which is according to some scholars is not allowed at all without a necessity in Islam. And since they’re very prominent religious figures, the young generations can easily say, “they did it, that means I can”). May Allah bless his heart and continue to use him for goodness and all of us. JazakAllahu khairan for the beautiful podcast brothers. May Allah guide us all to our potential in being of greatest benefit to the ummah in our own capacities and unite us all in al-firdaus 🤲❤️

Thanks. Like I said on another post elsewhere, I think you guys possibly need (could benefit from) a community page where people can post videos like an Islamic Nexus TY page. Plus maybe a series of links to established well-known sites so there is a network people can go into instead of potentially having focus dissipated . Just imagine if no Muslims present your journalism on alternative KZbin channels for instance it could be used to steal attention or lend legitimacy to their cause indirectly. I think if there were a community website there could be things like UK journalism and micro journalists posting local news to be moderated but it could be incorporated onto a larger KZbin page alongside things like sports events, charity work, fundraising et cetera . With Paul Williams for instance, he has so many contacts. Also, I have seen some of the scholars work alongside each other. If there could be a shift away from individual list webpages to a Nexus of scholars who network together in terms of a communal outlet implicitly showing respect for each other’s views… That could be cool. Also with paul Williams contacts that could even be educational function outside of the basic Islamic theology and politics delving into science into maths which need not even even have direct links to the religion, but would help illustrate that Islam is not merely about “revealed” topics but integrates science and general learning into a holistic scheme of things. This would help to combat the established secular narrative that religion is backwards and science is a novel development which is an evolution away from past mistakes and instead sure that religion can be up-to-date with modern context and need to not be feared as backwards thinking . What I mentioned about Paul Williams maybe he knows scientists like psychologist and physics who may be able to do shorts or basic three minute intros to topics like neuroscience or astrophysics, without Muslims having to depend upon sources they may feel mistrust for, and also importantly without having to depend upon the culture and traditions of the Christians or the secularists for their education even small shifts could materialise and help to facilitate expansion. Sorry if I’m a bit rude and abrupt sometimes I’ve got various issues but As-salamu alaykum to you all

I love that this brother called out the boxing of these 'manly' brothers. It's immature and will only make them more arrogant. He's right, it's fame and showmanship and inflating the ego and absolutely doesn't match the sacred and seriousness of the dawah. Why is it you don't see scholars behaving like this? It is not dignified when it's not real war. I think these brothers in the public space need to be working on their humility 10x more than your average Muslim.

Dilli and 5 Pillars, first off, May Allah bless you, you guys have been doing good reporting. Alhamdulillah, it’s good to hear first hand from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Syria. This brother Tox, killed it. I had no idea, You guys have shed the light on many legendary people, who I would not have known otherwise. The Ummah has been so behind that we are just now catching up with knowledge, while people like Tox are ahead and is implementing that knowledge in action. Yes we need the scholarly class, that is for knowledge, he is exactly right in that, it is not equal to being in the front lines and risking it all. The one who cannot even fight injustice with his mouth should leave the environment where injustice is happening and make Tawbah for they are of the weakest, weak in the context of the three groups who fight injustice. That is why the status of a Shaheed is incomparable.

I agree with Tauqir about the theatrics of some da'ees, when it comes to engaging in boxing matches and MMA fights. Why is there a need for such a show? Have they forgotten that striking a person in the face is not allowed in Islam? This clearly goes against the teaching of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), as narrated by Abu Hurayrah: “When any one of you fights, let him avoid (striking) the face.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, al-Fath, 5/215). If they really wanted to stage a fight then they could opt for wrestling, or other types of martial arts which don't involve striking the face, like judo or Jujitsu.

Strangely our beloved brother @Tox with time he changes views about proper solution for Muslim Ummah. Could be he’s right from analogy about our lands but he knows & as we know return of Islam via caliphate is near. It will reestablish on the manhaj of Prophethood not via pragmatism. Also throughout history of Muslim lands when they were confused they got secular democratic version. We know it didn’t bring any real change to our lands. Allah knows best. Jazakallahu Khairan brother dilly & tox.

May Allah makes tox steadfast in deen, we can’t expect everyone to be on the same level and it is important that we need to support each other as long as it is within the fold of islam and for the largef beefit of ummah. It is good to celebrate people who sacrifice more and more brave but it is also important that we encourage others who are trying in whichever way possible for the ummah.

Be realistic. In a place like the UK where there is little in the way of restrictions against religion, a large number of muslims are busy engaged with matters contraty to Islam. Muslim areas in the UK are some of the most deprived and generally have higher than average crime rates. The opposite should be the case, the muslim areas should be places of security, peace and where wealth is spread around. No wonder, we are but helpless to help outside of our villages.

Brother Dilly, what does our brothers and sisters in Palestine gain by a ring fight in UK? Its just bragging rights innit? Yes bragging rights for the umma maybe. But how does it help? Please for the sake of Allah stick to the fields where Allah has blessed you with the resources and skills to make a difference. We look up to you.
