Mass Assault is actually one of the best doctrines for a nation with low manpower and poor industry because you get an extra 5% manpower from it and you get nice bonuses for infantry and supply use. Ofc you also get 5% from mobile warfare but for that you also need the industrial capacity to make use of tanks, motorized and mechanized troops. Superior firepower is good when you use mostly infantry with artillery support and you're not in a desperate need of more manpower and grand battleplan is useful to someone like the UK where you take it slow and mostly defend and plan your attacks gradually.

@ХаывиреОфАлба Using tanks and mot./mech. is adviceable because if you go down the mobile warfare path and don't use those, your doctrine is going to waste in most cases. I propably would do either Mass Assault or Superior Firepower as Iraq unless you're planning to expand rapidly early.

Lovely! Couple of things, the Dutch Admiral, Helfrich, is the best in the game - especially with Submarines, more so if you take his focus, Ship a Day (I think that's its name). If you'd gone with Germany, you can also take "Assume the Naval Burden" to really ramp up naval power and combat Britain, USA, Japan... Anyone really. The Dutch Exile stuff is also really cool, makes for an interesting Dutch East Indies game. Could try one Vs Japan or even USA? Final point, you own Curacao which is a massive oil producer, so you can go pretty crazy with fuel using units. Netherlands is easily my favourite focus tree in vanilla HOI4, especially if you want to get stuck in with naval.

I know of a great challenge I figured out as the Netherlands. It is to form the EU without going either communist or fascist. In case you are confused, you can use the alternate tree to get war goals on the UK and Germany, so long as the alliances are properly arranged you can form the EU as early as 1943 if you get an early capitulation from Germany.
