Can Taurine, a simple amino acid that was discovered 200 years ago, really be that effective at slowing down the aging process?
A study out of Columbia University in New York has demonstrated that a deficiency of taurine is actually a driver of aging and that supplementing with taurine to overcome that deficiency resulted in mice living 12% longer. In this video, we'll examine that study, as well as go over exactly what taurine is, what taurine does in the human body, its benefits for aging, and how to source it.

Taurine helped me control my atrial fibrillation (AFib). I had to take beta blockers, but they had some side effects. Beta blockers can slow your heart rate, even when you're exerting yourself, which can increase your risk of blood clots. I started taking 2 grams of taurine per day, and it helped to suppress my daily AFib symptoms. I have lone AFib, which means it's not caused by any other underlying heart condition. I'm so relieved to know that taurine supplements are safe and effective for people with AFib

Excellent and helpful video. However, I wish you had also talked about whether it's best to take supplemental Taurine in some of the following ways: 1) all at once, in a single daily dose, and best timing for such an approach, OR 2) spaced out throughout the day, in smaller doses, taken several hours apart maybe ? , and 3) Best to take it alongside NAC + Glycine to help their effectiveness (?), and 4) Best if Taurine is taken together with, or separate from, food? In other words, how best to take it? Does the supply in the body dissipate quickly, thus needing frequent replenishing? (to have its best effect, in the good things it does) Whether by foods or supplements? Thanks! I appreciate your many helpful instructional videos, and generous spirit in sharing your wealth of knowledge with so many others. 🙂

My wife has been chugging an average of 5 cans of Red Bull Zero a day for the past 15 years. I have always been extremely worried and told her if she didn't stop she would end up in a "ChubbyEmu" video. Now doing the math. that's 5g of Taurine a day for 15 years, that's almost 30kg of Taurine ingested. After the age of 30 she has almost not aged a day (look-wise) and now 10 years later she still looks as youthful as before despite living a rather sedentary lifestyle with not the best of diets. And her blood pressure and cholesterol are beyond amazing. I'm starting to think she WILL end up in ChubbyEmus video, but for different reasons... 😂😂

I include 3ish grams of Taurine in the mix for my home brew energy/electrolyte/supplement drink I sip on throughout the day at work. At around $25 per killogram it is dirt cheap, so even if it doesn't pan out to be that beneficial in human trials, it isn't like I'm out significant money, unlike some other "health" supplements I've bought that turned out to be useless.🤣 I'm a 55 year old HVAC/R technician in Texas, and hold up better in the heat, with fewer breaks, than kids half my age, but do they listen? Sometimes mix in 3 teaspoons of collagen peptides. Smells and tastes like kinda bad, unless I leave the potassium chloride out, which I need to find an alternative for. Still tastes kinda bad without the potassium chloride, but I'm just taking a couple of gulps out of it at a time over the day, so I give it a pass. I've been taking 5-6 grams of taurine daily. It seems to have generated an interesting improvement. The body produces a chemical at night to reduce the need to urinate and disrupt sleep. However, as we age the body produces less of this chemical, and in my case, I found I was having to get up 2 or 3 times each night. After I started supplementing with taurine, my need to get up decreased to once per night. I'm sleeping better because of it.

@@gerofiore9695 that’s what I wanted to know. I wonder what was the reason for that? I know people who take Taurine in the morning and Glycine in the evening but not with NAC. I wonder if it’s the NAC/ Taurine combination that is doing it? What effects did you have made you stop the Taurine with it?

I've been megadosing glycine for about a year (mostly with NAC but now intermittent - see Siim Land, it can reduce muscle soreness to the point of impeding muscle building ) and taurine for a couple of months. Now I'm trying day and night doses of taurine. Same 5-6g. These like collagen, are pretty well tested for safety and efficacy. I see there coming a time to recognize a lot of these "conditional vitamins" as being mostly just vitamins we all need to pay attention to.

@zombiechow9974 I would like to know the calculations for that much Glycine. No one can even c9me close to that from any normal diet. I don't see how they got that figure. Production of 12 g a day of c9llagen. Takes about 4 g of Glycine. Production of creatine, let's say 2 g of glycine. Production of Glutathion, lets say 2 g of glycine. So, the big users of glycine need less than 10 g of it. I might have exaggerated here. 15 g of collagen contains less than 2 g of glycine. That also means, you won't get more glycine than that from the diet.

You say that Tauren is found to be low in older and old people, could it be that when you are older absorption of all vitamins and minerals are very poorly absorbed, if so what can help a person absorb nutrients better , once old? If we could all really find ways to see prevention of disease as something seriously to engage in. Doctors are anyway mostly very sceptical of vitamins and minerals, and are truly negative about substances like NMN which mostly they have never heard of anyway, but all of the newly researched substances that are holding out so much hope, are not and will not be accepted by the medical profession , so their efforts at keeping us older people healthy will be relying on exercise alone, which is very good but how can the prevention of disease be considered without providing information on and much more good quality research especially in older populations, the thing that will happen to us, is that we will all become older people one day. But the desire huge muscles etc is where advertising the new substances is aimed, they are only to be dismissed as something that doesn’t work.. why because they don’t need it, we older people do and we occupy the beds in hospital and leach the state of funds.
@LanceHitchings
@LanceHitchings 6 ай бұрын
Wow, you're really opened a can of worms here. I agree. The medical profession isn't really aware of a lot of the research going on in the field of aging. Which is why it's so important that we older folks do our own due diligence. But it's also the FDA, I'll be doing a video soon on how the FDA is holding up research, or even not allowing it to happen. To answer your question on Taurine, I think a lot of the issues with bioavailability of vitamins and minerals might have to do with a declining gut microbiome in aging people. But that's very reversible. Just my opinion.

There are two things that taurine has helped me with over the last five years (1gram every evening before I go to bed). The first is to help me fall asleep & get a better nights sleep. The second, which might be associated with cell plumping, was to heal my cracked lips. At one stage I wasn't paying proper attention to my stack & forgot to re-order taurine. My cracked lips returned after a month or so then went away again after a similar time once I restarted supplementing. After the longevity benefits study gained publicity I increased my supplementation to a GM first thing in the morning then later am & again pm. IOW I added an extra 3 gms spread throughout the day for a total of 4gm per day which I plan to continue taking indefinitely. A great review thx Lance. I look forward to your next level course. As you have suggested, I probably know most of what you're covering at the 101 level already.

"Roe postulated that exogenous taurine had a "toxic" effect on the psoriatic process and found aggravation of psoriasis in patients given oral taurine. In our study, the conditions of only one of 13 patients taking large daily doses of taurine became noticeably worse, and thus we could not confirm Roe's findings." I love all of this information but one thing we need more than anything. WE need a simple way to test for all of this. I'll add taurine, or anything else for that matter. But unless I can easily test levels, we are all basically doing this blindly with no real understanding if it's doing anything. So taurine levels drop as you age, but by how much? And how much should I take? Again, this isn't just for taurine, but basically everything.
