Austin can hit a D6, which is soprano territory, but Tim, Chance, and Rob can all sing tenor. Tim can go down to A0, which is subwoofer territory, but Chance, Rob, and Austin can all sing bass. That extraordinary flexibility makes them extraordinary.

Yes! They choose their leads based on what is best for the song. They actually all sing it and they choose amongst them what they feel is the representation. There are songs that feature each of them individually and then there are many shared leads as well. Tim leads: Hillbilly Bone, Brothers in Arms. Rob leads: End Of the Road, Dreamer from dive bar saints. Chance: Cover me up, I can't outrun you. You can't go wrong with any of their songs. Your face says it all.

No surprise that Austin absolutely crushed this. He's got a voice that could bend steel. So powerful. The harmonies supporting are exquisite, along with Tim's bass. Adam totally killed the vocal percussion. These guys are the cream of the crop as far as I'm concerned. These guys have no weak link. Every one of them is ridiculously talented.

Austin did a fabulous job of this classic song. Loved Percy Sledge's version, but this was taken to another level. I think it is also better than Michael Bolton's version. And remember this was done during quarantine, so the guys weren't even together. The backing harmonies are great, along with Tim's bass. And Adam's vocal percussion is outstanding. This is why these guys are my favorite a cappella group.

That's one of the nice things about this group...there really isn't a lead singer. They figure out who is best for a particular part/song and that's how they roll. I was never much of a country fan before I heard this group...now I listen to them every day. Another cool thing you'll begin to notice about them as you delve deeper into their catalog is their approach. Their message to the world is one of inclusivity, love of country, getting along, respect for and being kind to one another. They have serious songs and funny songs...but even in the funny songs where they poke fun, they do it at themselves and not someone else, like in their Butts Remix. It would have been so easy to make women the focus of that song, but the only butts that were wagged were theirs. I appreciated that.

All Home Free's songs are great, so it's hard to know what to recommend. An older but really fun one is Country Fried Pop Medley; the harmonies in Helplessly Hoping or Seven Bridges Road are outstanding. They totally goof off in Workin' for a Livin' . Looking forward to your next HF reaction.

Most Home Free stuff is very democratic, with multiple members rotating into lead. The way this one was set up (presumably due to COVID) is a rarity. But Austin is the primary lead vocalist on "Man of Constant Sorrow" and "Mayday." On their 50th Anniversary cover of "American Pie," which is also done in a COVID separate-screen format, everyone except Adam Rupp gets to sing lead on one verse, and original artist Don McLean does the first and last verses. There's also good rotation of the lead on "Sea Shanty Medley." You mentioned Misty Mountains. I see you've already watched the Geoff Castellucci version. Yes, there's also a version with Tim Foust, on Peter Hollens' channel. Peter did a solo multitrack version 9 years ago. Then, 6 years ago, he added tracks of Tim's voice and made a version with lower bass. Both versions are still on his channel and are pure acapella.

Peter Hollens is another acapella singer to explore. He has done a couple songs with Home Free (HOW GREAT THOU ART & U2’S I STILL HAVN’T FOUND WHAT I’M LOOKING FOR) and many duets with Tim Foust and Adam Chance). It's on Facebook, not on KZbin. Something about copyright issues. You could try finding one of the reactions on FB and react to the reaction. I've seen that done once about 5-6 months ago. Watching Patrol Gaming react to Brad Steele react to King Family react to Qofy react to VoicePlay's Hoist the Colours is hilariously funny. Qofy's extreme reaction to Geoff Castallucci hitting that low-low-low note sends the other three guys into hysterics.

I always thought that must be one of the hard things about being a reactor, not being able to listen to new music - hopefully we can find you some more Home Free to watch sooner rather than later. As others have said, they tend to switch leads about, so there are plenty of songs led by all of them. If you're looking for some options that give you a chance to see all of them shine, One Man Band is good recent one, or Working for A Living.

There's only one mistake you can make with Home Free -- listening to "Mayday" too soon. You don't get maximum enjoyment from this great performance until you know all the guys and their voices. For most reactors, that's at least 6 reactions to other HF performances. You've had a great introduction to Austin Brown (high tenor.) [When a man Loves a Woman] As others have commented, all members of this group have amazing voices...and there's Adam Rupp--one of the best beat boxers anywhere. Rob Lundquist (tenor) shines in HF's version of the Boyz2Men song "End of the Road." Tim Foust (basso profondo) solos in many HF performances, and he will drop sub-bass notes on you without warning! Adam Chance (who goes by his last name to avoid confusion with Adam Rupp) provides a rich baritone voice and is capable of going well beyond that range. Good examples of Chance's voice are found in "Some Girls Do", "Cover Me Up", "The Gambler", and "American Pie." Adam Rupp is a human drum kit. During HF's live shows, he does a "drum solo." One of those drum solos is here ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5LRfIqCisZ3psk ) Again, welcome to the Home Fries!

Tauri, to answer your question on who takes the lead, most of the time they all share the lead in most of the songs they do, but there are certain specific songs where one will take the lead throughout or mostly throughout. Since they have a huge catalogue, I suggest it might be easier and quicker for you to react and learn each singer's voice and talents first, then their whole library of songs is before you. For Tim, the bass, I suggest Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget and Brothers in Arms, for Chance, the baritone, Cover Me Up and Dive Bar Saints (a HF original), and Rob, their bearded tenor, Blue Ain't Your Color, and End of the Road, and one more by Austin, a cover of Patsy Cline's Crazy. Do those in any order, and you will find how great each one of them are. Welcome to the wonderful world of Home Free.
