This revolver was made for get off me close quarters. In many self defense situations, 5 rds of 357 should give you some space between perp and you. Reloads are not that important as long as you can handle the recoil and with adrenaline pumping, you will. Also, like you say, 357 is loud and that will definitely help put some fear into anyone.

I've had my 605 poly for about 5 years and the only issues I've had was a loosened ejector rod and some steel 357 magnum ammo that I got when I bought the gun and they were sticking in the cylinder. Any brass ammo I've never had stick. My trigger is much smoother now. Always good shooting and fun to watch , have a good day

I have owned one for over five years and it was my EDC for almost four years. When I first got it I noticed the point of impact was off from the point of aim by about five inches low and right at about 15 feet. After trying numerous ammo types and combinations I sent it back to Taurus for inspection and repair. They returned it to me after a few weeks and from then on its point of aim and point of impact were spot on. Way to go Taurus! Also after a thousand or so rounds the double action REALLY smoothed out and it became a real pleasure to shoot. I would shoot it almost weekly in order to keep my muscle memory sharp. Over the time that I carried it I put close to 9000 rounds of my 38 spl +P reloads through it due to my very regular practice with it. After several years of this I noticed I was getting some splashback across my cheeks while shooting it. Upon closer inspection it appeared as if the cylinder had gotten out of time. After this much use I wasn't terribly surprised. However, this time Taurus wouldn't fix it under warranty due to my shooting reloads through it and wouldn't even provide an estimate without a $50 dollar "bench fee". Now it just sits in my safe. I suppose I got my moneys worth and that's that.

I have a Taurus 605 but it is the steel version. I only paid about $300 for it and it seems to be a MUCH better .357 snubby than the 605 Poly Protector. A little heavier in the pocket (about 24 ounces) but it shoots real nice with .38 specials +P and .357 magnum loads.

Did you know that here in Brazil, Taurus CEO, Salésio Nuhs, wrote a letter to our government recommending that Brazilians be disarmed and no longer have the right to bear arms, even though the Brazilian people are almost being enslaved by a socialist dictatorship with its new ruler Lula ? And that Lula has connections with the Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro, narco criminal, with Vladimir Putin, Daniel Ortega, and several other current tyrants? Lula wants to disarm us Brazilian and Taurus collaborates with the disarmament. If you appreciate freedom, DO NOT BUY TAURUS GUNS AND AMMO FROM CBC! If you ask me why, it's the good old lobby with the new government, which buys ammunition, in addition to market control in Brazil, to prevent competitors from arriving in Brazil.

Great review. I have the 605, but it's a steel 3 inch size with the minimal rear unmarked sights and the front nuclear sights (tridium). It also has the grip that interferes with one or two casings when you empty it. The only problem I had with it was on the right side of the frame below the cylinder. The screw that holds the cylinder arm came loose and I almost lost it. It only has two threads so trying to cinch it back down is hard. So far smearing some thread lock on it has kept it in place.

Good review Mixup 98 (as usual 👍👍👍) I actually looked at purchasing one back in the day when I was looking into a lightweight.38/.357 revolver…but after comparing the double action trigger pull of the Taurus to the Ruger LCR…I opted for the Ruger in .38 Special even at its higher price point…I’ve not looked back on that decision 👍👍👍…even the Ruger LCR has a little “closeness” issue when using certain J frame 5 shot speed loaders…I have settled on the Bianchi speed strips which pocket carry and work well (beware of some of the cheaper strips as they are molded of stiffer polymer and don’t work as well)…a little practice loading two at a time from the strip followed by the one left will surprise you with it’s quickness 😊😊😊

Many years of revolver shooting taught me to use my left index finger to pop the ejector rod, and as I let it up I spin the cylinder with my left thumb. It always help clear the cylinder for faster reloads with standard and large size revolvers, and with small frames it is really helpful for that same reason. I have a model 85 Taurus that can also hang up ejecting the rounds, right in the same spot because of the grip. I agree about metal. Polys are nice and light, but the kick is not worth it. Even in 38 +P it is a jolt. And I do not believe you could use a 180 grn buffalo bore (or equivalent handload) with that gun. The bullet jump from recoil on the rest of the chambers of that lightweight gun could easily pop bullets out of the cases enough to keep the cylinder from rotating. So it would not be the best woods carry, which is what I use 357 magnum for.

I bought one of these about two years ago. I was annoyed by two things. First, the ball plunger crane lock was incorrectly installed. Thus, the threaded plunger housing interfered with the frame, making it difficult to open the cylinder. I removed it, applied some blue Loctite and reinstalled it, adjusting the depth to function as intended. My second issue was the grip interfering with cartridge case extraction. I removed the grip and recontoured the grip, blending the edges. This solved that issue. After a lot of use, the trigger loosened up. It's still right at 12 pounds DA, 3 lb, 14 oz SA. Overall, it a very serviceable revolver, especially for the cost. Like yours, it shoots a bit high, but at very close range, that really isn't an issue. It isn't much lighter than the steel 605, which causes me to wonder why Taurus even bothered to develop it. I own two other Taurus revolvers, and the excellent GX4 micro compact 9mm. All have been trouble free, accurate and great value for the price.

My only complaint is that I can’t seem to find a carrier for the moon clips and hate having them in my pocket putting the moon clips at risk of being damaged.

I am a late night weekend rideshare driver. I like the heavy trigger pull on this gun and I would never reload it in a gun fight. I carry a full size semiautomatic on my hip but it is hard to access with the center console and seatbelt in the car. I picked up this little revolver to slide under my leg for quick and easy access. If I empty the revolver it will buy me time to get to my gun on my hip. With the price and size of this gun it is absolutely perfect for my intended use. I like a cheap reliable gun like this that can be tossed into the glove box or door pocket or even the tackle box when I go fishing. I dont need one of my more expensive guns for this.

I've had my 605 for a year or two. I don't carry it often. When I do it is as a backup gun of last resort. I have no complaints other than trying to find an appropriate (leftie) range holster. I ended up having two made by a local leather shop.

I’ve got a Taurus Poly but it’s 38Special. +Ps OK. Been good shooter. Rarely carry but take to range almost every trip. Either it or Rem 380 start every session. No M&P, Ed Brown, Para, Glock etc comes out of bag until 5 in 10 ring from 15 yards. Great practice. Then big boys are simple to hit with. Was not looking for snubby. I have few Smith/Ruger wheel guns that I love. In 2015 this was on sale at PSA for $99 after rebate. Can’t pass that up. Never failed to fire. Would feel much better with Poly in hand as opposed to Johnson if ducus hits the fan.

10:49 Yes, sir! Looks like it's gone from 113 degrees right down to cold, clouds, and snow! That was quite the squall you stirred up there. Twelve pound-plus DA trigger pull sounds a bit heavy. I wonder if it can be lightened some. I'd think maybe 8-9 lbs. would work. That would still be twice as heavy as the SA pull. Looks like it's capable of holding up its end of the bargain at appropriate distances as long as the operator does his/her job behind the sights. I get to fire a Taurus 805 from time to time. It also does a good job at what it's made to do. Nice follow-on to your earlier Poly video. Stay safe out there. Don't get stuck in the late summer snow.

I have 2 of these. I used to be into carrying snubbies and these were really affordable at the time, I think I paid $250 for the first one and $300 for the second. I mostly used 38 spl in them, not due to the recoil as I am a recoil junkie but more so due yo safety and durability concerns. I dont know how many rounds of full house 357 these would stand up to before the top strap seperated from the rest of it. I have shot 357 out of them though, and safety concerns aside they both functioned fine. My 2 examples are also accurate. I kind of feel like this model just isnt meant for high round counts, more of a last resort, emergency kind of weapon.

Good looking little gun. I've had success with Taurus. I currently own a Tracker model number 627 which is seven shot 357 Magnum overall a pretty good gun. Your issue with the round getting stuck on the grip up on ejection is definitely a quality control issue. It's not something that I would consider major but you would think Taurus has been around long enough where they would have spotted something like that. Maybe it's just me but something about shooting 357 loads especially hot loads from a polymer snubby seems a little scary. I guess I'm kind of old school I'd like my Steel haha. That Hornady ammo is exactly what I carry. Good choice. Good video thanks.

Not a bad looking revolver. With the Ruger LCRs commanding $500 for the .22 on up to $700, it could be an alternative. I got Mom a regular 605 and put Crimson Trace grips on it. The grips cost as much as the pistol. The one I bought had to go back to Taurus, and they replaced it with a brand new one. They never did say why it was tying up when in the horizontal position, but would work if pointed downwards. Anyway, Mom isn't young anymore and recoil and weight is bothering her. Arthritis won't let her work even the easiest semi-auto slide, so we are looking at an LCR in .22 Mag or .22LR or something else similar.

Good to see you. Yeah, it was a pretty brutal summer over my way as well and happy to feel the beginning of a change of season. *For me, something like a .357mag or even a 1911 represents something that I would love to own as something more "special" that I want for my collection. Something that I would shoot occasionally and cherish a bit more as opposed to many of the other firearms I've gotten recently that in my mind at least, serve a specific purpose. My mind may change as I gain more experience, but I don't believe that I would carry a .357mag for self defense. For this reason, I believe a 686 or GP100 stainless 4" to 6" is still what I'm thinking for the top of my planned budget and getting what I really want. *Thanks for the video, I enjoyed it! 👍

I have a .45 1911 that's just a range toy because it's got too much sentimental value to carry. It's a great shooter and I'd happily get another one for carry. I'm in the market for a big ol' .357. I'm torn, if I want to carry it I should get a 4" but I want a hand cannon so I might as well go all the way and get a 6" even though that will make it mostly a range toy. I'm looking at a S&W 686+. The GP100 is nearly unbreakable but the 686 is a bit more stylish and cleans up a little more nicely.

@@bwofficial1776 Thanks for your input. Yes, from my experience just handling them in the store, my initial thoughts are the same. The GP felt and looked more "industrial" and the 686 more refined but, I really liked them both. It hasn't been that long since I've become more interested in firearms and shooting. My initial focus has been .22lr, 9mm, 5.56mm and 12guage and now my thoughts are expanding to other calibers.
