I had a Taurus stainless Model 85 in the early 1990s I wish I never sold. It came in the old black cardboard box with gold print and had factory wood grips on it. That was my beater when I wanted something cheap to carry or use (fishing/boat, garage, lawn work etc etc) gun instead of using my more expensive firearms. I just replaced it yesterday with a Taurus Model 856 stainless yesterday. I've ordered a pair of Altamont Super Walnut checkered boot grips for it because Taurus rubber grips have always looked gaudy and cheap. I am also considering the Ameriglo orange tritium night sight sold right on the Taurus website. For $400ish in total, or slightly less with the upgrades, you can't go wrong I wouldn't think. I'm a reloader and bullet caster so I can play around with many loads and experiment with them in it. Casting my own bullets and reloading my own ammo with components purchased before the 2020 shortage I can load a box of .38 Special ammo for about $3.50. I also just recently picked up a used Police trade in 1977 S&W Model 10-8 4" 6-shot .38 Special. I put a repro set of factory wood grips on it and a BK T-Grip mod adapter on it for that cool period correct old school look and feel. I touched up some of the bluing with some cold blue. Again I have about $400ish in it and you can't beat it for that. I think many people buying cheap junky polymer 9mm semi-auto pistols would be better served getting a revolver or saving more money to get a GLOCK or HK instead. Even so for what I am using these for a cheap or used revolver is the better option. When you pull it out it will fire even after setting loaded for years. Semi-autos require more maintenance and lubrication to keep them going. Don't believe for one second the old myth or wives tales about magazine springs not going bad while being loaded. Those people have never owned or worked on a classic car, old tractor or vintage switchblade that was stored closed for a very long time. I bought a West German 1995 (KF) Sig Sauer P-226 9mm shot very little and stored in a drawer that the magazine springs were completely shot. It's BS and a myth started by non mechanically inclined people. The only way a spring doesn't fatigue is if it is unloaded or uncompressed. I'm glad I picked this Taurus 856 stainless up and I will put it to good use along with my used S&W Model 10-8 Police service revolver.

Over torque is easy -- lock the barrel in a vice (padded) and stick a wood broom handle through the cylinder window (remove the cylinder first) and then bang the broom handle a couple of times until she's 12 o'clock. This is not complicated! We're talking a less than a degree most times. No lock-tight is needed -- such a small adjustment is still plenty tight. Now under-torqued is a problem -- there may be not enough thread to get to12 o'clock!

@JohnDoeEagle12 жыл бұрын
It depends on what kind of Taurus. Their revolvers are in a class by themselves. "A few bucks more".....more like $200+ more if you are talking a S&W or Ruger. Occasionally used Police trade ins pop up and you can get a great deal but they are fewer and farther in between these days. Most LEO Agencies phased out their revolvers in the 1980s and the days of buying them cheap are almost gone. I just picked up a used 1977 S&W Model 10-8 4" 6-shot Police trade- in this summer for $329. I've been looking for YEARS to find one though. They didn't last long and were sold out in a few days. Don't look at that as a common everyday option.

@@JohnDoeEagle1 I had a ported Taurus 44spl snub in the 90's, wasn't cheap coz I didn't know how to buy a gun. It was horrible, even from a rest at 7 yards it couldn't shoot straight. Guns are legacy investments, few people will ever wear a gun out. Night and day difference between a good Smith or Ruger, let alone a performance center model or K6S. Much better to wait and get the right tool first time.
