I just picked this exact revolver up last week, traded in an old Charter Arms and picked up this 856....I really love it after only one day on the range with this six shot. And I also have a TX22, G3 and a PT92

Was you having trouble with the Charter Arms? And what charter arms did you trade? was it another snubby? I've heard a lot of mixed reviews about those charter arms. I'd love to know more about what you had, and as to why you decided to let it go. Thanks, Joe

Dude that front sight thing is NOT an issue. They sell little bottles of like Day-Glo paint just for this purpose. I have painted front sights with screaming yellow and fluorescent orange, white, etc. pick whatever color works best for you! Problem solved!

I have a model 605 in 357 magnum which allows me to both 38/357. The biggest thing about this stubby is the weight. The stainless steel version I have is 24 ounces and takes the sting out of shooting 38 special and plus P 38s, now I have shot a few cylinders of 357 in my 605 and it’s punishing so it’s an opt only if it’s required. Air weight Smith’s are not user friendly and to light and painful for women and a man’s middle finger knuckles. Taurus hit a home run with these J frame size 856 & 605 revolvers, over 350 rounds of plus P in my 605 357 is no problem at all with ZERO function issues of any kind. I would recommend buying the steel and stainless steel versions.

Another thing to think about is that if you have to use the firearm in a self defense shooting the police will be taking it for evidence, at least until the legal stuff is over. I would rather them take a 300-400 dollar gun vs a $1,500 gun. As long the less expensive gun is reliable, there is not much point in losing a more expensive gun.

Thanks for your review of the Taurus 856. I've had mine since it was introduced in large measure to the 8 round capacity. Most of the negative comments about Taurus have been based on hearsay. I picked up my first Taurus a model PT 99 in 1990. The model 99 is the same as a model 92 but with adjustable sights. In 2015 I picked up a PT111 G2 and a model 95 Revolver. Since then I've added a Taurus Tracker 627 357 Magnum and a TX22. Bottom line, In more than 30 years I've owned a good number of Taurus firearms and all have served me well. The only time I've had to rely on Taurus service is when I contacted them with a service question and I received an immediate response to my request. There has been a business relationship between Taurus and Smith and Wesson since 1962 and the companies share patents.

When they work, they work great although most issues I have seen or heard have been from the semi auto pistols not the revolvers

Taurus has had three different owners and have always been a hit or miss company. Remington was founded in 1816 and was a very reputable company, but after several years of putting out guns of poor quality, They're now out of business. Those Taurus 85's were great in the early 90's, But they ran into some troubles with them in the late 90's and also ran a recall on them in 2015 and again I believe in either 2017 or 2018. You'd have to look into that. Now as far as I can tell, they've improved them since then. But time will tell. Taurus also put out a Semi Auto that would fire if you shook the gun in your hand. That's a big major problem. I feel one of the best things they have done to recover was putting out those rough rider 22's. I believe they've made a killing on those. If it hadn't have been for those Rough riders, Taurus may very well be out of business right now. It's a shame that they're hanging on by a thread. when they make a gun, if it's well made it's awesome. a Galloway spring kit and some hand polishing can go a long way with them. do that and replace the grips with a lot of them, and you'll have a top quality looking gun for a reasonable price. with an 856 you'll have a little over $400.00 in it and it will respond very much like a 637 and look about as good too with a good long polish with mothers polish. I'd love to have an 856 and I'll be looking into buying one of those myself in the very near future. Peace..Joe

I prefer the 3" barrel 5 shot .38 Special revolver. Still conceable, light and the 3" barrel gives a little bit more velocity and accuracy. Depending on your jurisdiction, the ammunition I would carry would be 125grain semi-jacketed round nose or the 110grain hollow points. Thanks for sharing this video.

I just bought the 3". Haven't fired it yet. I hope the trigger pull lightens up a bit through use. I really love the frame size. Sort of fits into not too big, not too small, somewhere between a J frame and K frame. This is my first Taurus, but for $379, you get a 3" six-shot with Altamont wooden grips. Thanks for the review.

the 3 inchers are very nice proportionally I have to say, I wish S&W made more 3 inchers personally the action on the 856s are just not very smooth though in comparison, theyre functional but theyre not "nice" by any means
@thebluesrockers
@thebluesrockers 2 жыл бұрын
Shazard, I've seen a video of someone installing a Galloway Spring kit on one of those Taurus's 856 and they claimed it was as smooth as their S&W after that. The trigger pull was reduced down to 5 lbs double action and 2 lbs in single action. Those kits run around $15.00 and if you watch the video on YT when you're installing one, people claim to have done it in 15 minutes and also claimed to be well pleased by it. You may want to look into that. Peace..Joe

I miss cheap Armscorp .38SPL but now .38 prices are getting ridiculous, it's one of the reasons I sold my S&W Model 10-8 and I loved that revolver. I still have my S&W 681 though simply because it can shoot both .38 and .357. I would like to get a S&W stainless snubby as a beach gun one day.

“In 1970, American conglomerate company Bangor Punta Corp., then-owners of Smith & Wesson, purchased an interest in Taurus. As sister companies, Taurus and S&W shared technology, with both companies benefitting significantly from Taurus engineering and manufacturing advances. In 1977, Taurus is re-acquired by the company severing ties with the Smith & Wesson brand and initiating a diversified expansion program in handgun development and manufacturing. “ Literally copied from Taurus’ Website, that’s why the model numbers of Taurus are similar to S&W. They used to work together many years ago.

Shazarad, I need your help, really, on another subject you recently talked about. The Persian 98/29 Mauser. I went to get some ammo the other day. The sales person showed me two types of 8mm and asked me if I wanted rimmed or non rimmed. Ammo sales being final and no returns and given the expensive price of ammo now days I did not want to take a chance on purchasing the ammo with out doing a little research. So, here I am asking for your help. The ammo he had was Sellier Bellot. One had the pronounced rim the other had a rim but it did not extend beyond the diameter of the case. What do you say?
@shazarad4127
@shazarad4127 3 жыл бұрын
You do not want the rimmed version, I know exactly what type you're referring to The rimmed version will not fit in regular 8mm mauser guns, only very specific ones will accept it and as far as I know there are no rimmed versions of Persian mausers Go with the regular unrimmed ammo

Other day I saw a KZbin video by an ex seal whose edc is a J frame revolver. His rationale is as a civilian all he needs a gun for is to get away from the threat. That lowers the bar considerably.

Debating getting this or the concealed hammer version of the 856 as a second concealed carry gun. What do you recommend? Is it fine for concealed carrying with the exposed hammer, does it snag on clothes? Also how do you carry it? Pocket carry, appendix, 5 o clock position? what holster do you use?
@shazarad4127
@shazarad4127 3 жыл бұрын
The hammer vs no hammer is a personal debate, I see no problem with either I typically carry appendix with it and just use a "Houston" holster, not the best kind I'm sure there's better

@nobody-hr1lo
@nobody-hr1lo 2 жыл бұрын
Half way bobbed hammer, best of both worlds... Just buy the hammer version and bob the hammer in the middle and flush sideways. That way you get almost all benefits from a "hammerless" revolver while retaining single action just in case.
