Taurus G3C. Why I picked it over the GX4

A review of the Taurus G3C I purchased six months ago.

@@shooters_world2909 Honestly I haven't found any grain that fails. I have shot 115, 124, 147 without any issues. I currently carry it with Speer Gold Dot 147 grain. I have tested with it at the range and no flaws.

I'm really liking this particular gun. The only bad Taurus guns were some of the first small 45 autos. Now they seem to have upped their quality control

Thanks for the video. NOTE: My GX4 is not part of the recall. I bought my GX4 for my NEW EDC in June 2021 and have had 0, No, issues to this date and have run over 2900 rounds. Wasn't looking for a firearm that was Optics ready or had a 'rail'. I wanted a small 9mm that would be the best for self defense, concealment, yet have quality and be dependable. I wasn't going to be in any shooting competition with the GX4 as I have other firearms for that. Purchased the GX4 at my local Scheels and got the last one in stock at that time - 329.00. Received the pinky extensions (2) for the two 11 rd mags that were included and that completed the grip for me....good to go with my pinky on board. Of course my 13 rd mag comes with the extension. That's all I needed to do to get the GX4 the way I wanted it on my hip...or wherever I carry it. Recently upgraded to the Tru-Glow sights which is a great add-on over the factory sights. Also have now a Viridian Red Laser which was an easy mount not having a rail. Added this weekend the Hogue HandALL Beavertail Grip Sleeve specifically for the GX4 and GX4XL. Do some have issues, sure they do. Did some Shield Plus have issues? Did the Sig P365 have any issues? Did the Glock 42 or 43 have issues? It’s a big yes to all.

The GX4 has a superior trigger and I like the slightly smaller frame. I do wish the GX4 came with 3 mags. I got my GX4 for $309.00!

I love my G3C. Picked one up just a few weeks after moving to Texas back in December and been taking it to the range at least once a week. No issues at all. The grip is aggressive for my hands so I picked up a sleeve for 10 bucks

G3C has a decently developed aftermarket, like Lakeline LLC items. Everything from higher-cap mag sleeves, barrels, springs, triggers, sights, you name it. The GX4....nada.

I smithed my slide and got lakeline threaded barrel and a rock your Glock presision compensator it's a tack driver with the ADE Green Dot sight. Tighter than a baby doe. Hole in hole shooting now.

It has sights and some barrels and 13 round mags and the gx4 toro Is coming out. It already has a steel guide rod so don't have to waste 20-30 bucks to replace that.

I bought G3c after purchased G2c year ago with thousands around on it, works perfect a like glock30. Now, I have 5mags compatible and I can have 1 in the car and 1 on my waist all the time. Now Taurus have $25 rebate on all G3c so take advantage of it.

Just as there are people who will bad mouth this brand and model and won't even entertain the thought of purchasing one. Just as there are those who will be perfectly content with this budget friendly pistol. If capacity is something that will make or break your decision to purchase one pistol over another one. Especially if you are intent on using this pistol for conceal carry and if you can and do carry a spare magazine or magazines on you. With this particular model anyone can carry the full size g3 model magazines either 15 or 17 round capacity as spares that will work with this pistol. That is another option or feature to think about when deciding what pistol to purchase. Hopefully this information will better help anyone intending to make their next pistol purchase.

Hello sir from the mountains of western Colorado! Thank you for your input and comparison of these two pistols! I enjoyed your video! I was just visiting my parents in Virginia for the week. My dad had a Taurus G3C that he had purchased not too long ago. He keeps it in a drawer by his chair in the living room. And , when we go somewhere, he throws it in his pocket. I liked it so much that I purchased one too while I was there, from his backwoods gun dealer. VA has adjusted their laws lately, so it has to be mailed to one of my local FFLs. We did shoot while I was there; so, of course, I shot my dad’s g3c. I liked it! I have a fairly advanced gun usage background from when in the military. So, I found it to be a really easy transition to use this pistol; and was accurate enough with it to engage multiple 4 inch metal targets. Can’t wait for it to arrive! I think the theory for this pistol, for me, will be to ultimately get a couple to have in a few places that I spend the most amount of time; this is all due to its affordable price.

I watched video after video years ago on the taurus PT 111 they all where talking about how good it was an how bad the trigger was so after six mo. or so I pulled the trigger and got one don't know how much ammo I've ran through it and not one failure to anything and the triggers not that bad an gets better after a few hundred rounds when I bought mine years ago I got it out the door for under 160$ after the rebate I have many pistols springfild 1911 45acp cz's in 45acp 9mm and a 52 in 7.65×25 that I could carry the rest are safe Queen's I carry my. Taurus and a 2in 357 magnum in my pocket constitution carry state you know I love it. great video and good choice keep up the good shooting

I am a gx4 guy all day I also have a hellcat which is twice the cost, I prefer the gx4 over it better trigger, better slide, just a better feeling gun

i have both too, the GX4 cost me $299 (2022) and the GC3 $319 (2020). 1200 rounds thru the GC3 with no failures of any kind, 300 thru the GX4 with the sane good results. I carry 15 rounds plus one in the GC3 and 13 plus one in the Gx4. The GX4 is more comfortable to carry so its carried 70 percent of the time. They are both excellent pistols.

Just bought a G3c for $219.00 w 3 mags and a manual safety. Didn't want the thumb safety version, but for that price I can learn to live with it.

Thank you for a very good video. I have been using Taurus as my EDC for about 6 years now, starting with the PT111-G2 and now for the past 2 years a G2C. I really love these guns and I view that long take up in the trigger as an added safety. You really have to want to shoot that gun with that long take up. I have seen a lot of G3Cs at the range and they are all well loved by their owners.

I decided on the G4x. Compact. It fits my right pocket perfectly concealed. I am small. 5'4". So the grip is perfect for me. I can't carry the G2 or G3 concealed. I do have a G2c and love it. Thinking getting the G3c and G3x just so I can have the whole "G" series. They are awesome I'll tell you that. If I bought a Glock, hell, I can almost buy 3 Taurus guns with that money. And they all do the same...reliably.

My TCP malfunctioned it was in 380, send it to Taurus, and they sending me back the this very pistol because the TCP is no longer available and they no longer will fix them just letting you know

The G3c is my everyday carry weapon and the G3 (full size) is my bedside weapon. Great weapons at an even better price.

The trigger is made that way for self defense purposes...I didn't like it either at first but now I know why it's like that. Fine Motor skills go away in high stress situations...

Nonsense. Trigger is that way, because it is SA/DA striker gun.

But after doing research, I learned that they chose that type of trigger because they viewed the gun as a self defense pistol that would be used at very short range - no more than 15 yards. I learned how to use it after much practice and became used to it's weird, spongy feel.

@KZbin Legend I never said for "superior tactical reasons"...I said that it was made for self defense purposes" - i.e. not a target gun and not a high end pistol with a high end trigger. Its a cheap pistol. As crappy as the trigger may be, its better than any trigger on any revolver I've shot.

I own both pistols from Taurus ! The G3c and the GX4 ! With the 3C I just can't get passed that huge dead area in the trigger pull ! It doesn't engage till you are almost touching the rear of the damn trigger guard ! The X4 however is much shorter and crisper ! It is ideal for carry and teamed up with the Veridian E series laser is an extremely accurate dependable carry gun ! Just my opinion but I chose it over my P365 !

I think Taurus has really stepped up their game. Don’t think I would have a problem owning either one the G3C or the GX4. I do like the looks of the GX4 over the G3C

Great gun choice. Taurus has definitely stepped up their qaulity. I remember the early 90s nobody would touch Taurus they were so garbage. As for country hands....take a look at the gf3-X it's essentially the same gun you have but with a full size 17rd grip, not for everyone but I can see those selling big time also. You get a compact frame with a longer full 17+1 capacity grip.

I have both of these and after hundreds of rounds on both I honestly agree with your choice to pick the G3C both for a different reason. Never had any failures with the G3C but I did have to send the GX4 in for warranty repair. I do not care for the finish in either of them but after all this time I trust the G3C more. GX4 does have better trigger is more concealable but reliability goes to G3C in my experience. After getting used to the restrike function I liked the G3C so much I did go ahead and do the Lakeline upgrades but my EDC first choice will always be my M&P but Taurus is making some good reliable firearms these days.

i have both of them and i did have problems with the g3c firing steel ammo and hollow points at first till i polish the feed ramp but the gx4 ate right through both types without any hang up but the g3c is a little more accurate than my gx4 i have to aim my gx4 a little to the right because the gun pulls to the left a little probably sight adjustment that needs to be made

Try the Veridian E series laser sight made for the GX4 ! It was easy to install and sight in !Accuracy went way up ! Banging steel at 20 yards regularly now !

Taurus g3c is a great choice and very reliable. I made the mistake of selling my Taurus g3c and upgrading to the gx4. The gx4 I got had over 20 trigger reset issues with the first few magazines and it was just a terrible firearm. I sold it at a pawn shop and bought the Taurus g3c again.

You obviously shoot the pistol well and it fits you so its understandable you picked this sub compact over the smaller micro compact GX4. Some folks will shoot the GX4 better and it will fit them better. Some folks will conceal one better than the other also so lower price and getting more may not be enough if the sub compact does not fit some folks body type that might need a micro 9 provided they shoot it well and it fits them. BTW, I have a G2c but I also have a micro 9. Nice shooting. Thanks for sharing.

Well to be fair, unlike the g3c you can buy factory extended magazines for the gx4 that will make the grip longer and give an even better capacity than the g3c. All while retaining the benefits of a thinner gun that can be made smaller for easier concealment. The gx4 also seems to be made with higher quality parts with better features as well. I don’t necessarily have a dog in this fight seeing as I don’t personally own either. But I’ve done my fair share of looking into both of these models out of pure curiosity and the desire to maybe get one some day seeing as they’re dirt cheap and seem relatively reliable. The Gx4 is certainly a much better gun, but I’d probably get the g3c too. If you’re already spending nearly $400 on a handgun there’s really no excuse for not getting a better handgun from a more trustworthy company. You can get a Smith & Wesson for around $400 and you will get a FAR superior product. The whole appeal of the g3c is that it’s really cheap and most of them work alright. Despite the gx4 being a step up in quality from Taurus I really don’t see the point in getting one. There’s far better ways to spend your money.

I am a Glock owner, and agree on quality but you are forgetting costs of ammo and range time in owning a firearm especially for a first time gun owner. To properly learn your weapon and break in of that firearm is about 300-500 rounds. My near 600 dollar glock is really 800-900. The new shooters usually don't factor in all the costs involved. What good is an expensive gun if you can't afford to shoot it? Not all can afford those prices, costs.

If you want a tighter pistol smith the slide and get a lakeline competition threaded barrel and add a muzzle break I got the rock your Glock presision compensator. I also run a ADE Green Dot sight tack driver. Also the stainless steel guide rod . Watch Johnny Glocks video on slide work it's easy to do with a small ballpeen hammer go easy and slow little by little checking fitment of slide as to not to over do it.

All the gx4 has is the internal chassis and it needs it its too small and snappy I didnt like it the g2c and g3c are better overall .

I have a G3c and several GX4s. Both are fine choices, but I prefer the GX4. Before purchasing, did you consider the G3 with up to a 17 round capacity? Just a thought here. I wonder how many crimes are committed with stolen "truck guns"?

Have a g3 and a g3c. Bought the g3c with the Viridian laser option and slapped Truglo tritiums on it. The g3 rocks a green Hawk Gazer that fits perfectly and of course, swapped for Truglo tritiums. Lakeline has nice mods for each. The g3 is my happy range gun and the g3c my EDC. Have you tried shooting the orange out of the target (RTO) yet at DP?

@903wheatthins8 The G3 is more or less a full size pistol, thus fits larger hands very well. It has a very comfortable, rounded backstrap. Though it's considered full size, it is very light at 25 ozs. So you could reasonably carry it daily. The G3c fits my gun hand with really no pinky overhang with the 12 round mag. A full two hand grip will swallow this gun with my trigger finger somewhat further into the trigger guard that I have to correct upon draw. This gun is a pleasure to carry and is my daily.

Good review BUT unfortunately with Taurus an occasional lemon sneaks through off their assembly line more than other manufactures. Before I’d give any gun my blessing especially Taurus. I’d have to go shoot it 100 or more times first. As with all semi pistols they all need breaking in. The occasional lemon is just something gun people have to deal with for the lower cost. Despite Taurus warranty, their service in my experience left a lot to be desired. I needed a rear sight, an item not covered in their warranty. It only cost a few bucks but I went back and forth four times before they sent the correct one. Third try I sent them a photo and it was still wrong, I mean not even close. Finally sent them my sight in two pieces and they got it right. I once had a revolver problem. Taurus fixed it but I was without it for apx five weeks before it was returned. On the plus side I have an early 1980’s Taurus 92. In all the years I’ve owned not a single problem or jam of any sort. My older PT-111 runs like a reliable clock. A bit of advice, if you buy one brand new and have a problem. Contact Taurus immediately and demand pre-paid postage return labels. Wait to long you can expect it costing about $50 to return it.

I buy my Taurus guns from Academy and they always tell me if needed to bring the gun to them, they ship it, and call me when its sent back by Taurus. I will let them do the legwork if ever needed.

Have G2C and GX4 TORO. The slide is much easier to rack on the G2C than the GX4. I assume the G3C is similar. So if you have arthritis of for ladies or anyone who might have trouble with the slide....

For me, it's a matter of not crying too much if I have to use it in legal self-defense and the police confiscate it for evidence.
