Summer of 1995, my dad and I took a trip to the local gun shop and he asked me if there was one .22 I could pick out which would it be, I picked the Taurus M94 in stainless, I was so excited and dad and I had tons of fun memories plinking with that little revolver. He had mentioned that around the same age he had a Harrington and Richardson .22 revolver. My M94 had beautiful Brazilian rosewood grips. I still have it but unfortunately something in the action got messed up, and I’m not certain to send it to Taurus. Would rather keep it as more of a relic now. Miss ya dad ❤

I saw a lot of negative reviews on the Taurus 94 revolver, but i went with your review and got one, so far , I love it, I would have preferred a S & W , but i paid 400 instead of 800 and i can live with the stiff trigger for that price! Thanks for the great reviews!

There is just something totally relaxing about walking around in the woods with a pocket full of CB shorts, no earplugs, and a nice .22 revolver for popping any old target of opportunity. Having no magazine to fumble with is a treat when there's no bench to load from. Nice video.

It always amuses me how some shooters continue to criticize revolvers that don't cost as much as Colts and S&Ws. I have 3 S&W model 17s, a 2 model 18 Combats, a K-22, and a 617, and a Colt .22 Diamondback. There's no arguing that they are all beautifully made, superb guns. On the other hand, I have several Taurus and Rossi revolvers, and some older High Standards and Harrington & Richards. As the old cliche says, any of these guns can shoot better than me. None have ever failed to work, and all have provided endless hours of enjoyment for my family and me friends. I look at guns like I do cars. An Aston-Martin may have lot more glamour and performance than a Mustang or Camaro, but dollar for dollar, the latter can still provide more opportunity for the average guy to have loads of enjoyment and still afford gas.

A .22 LR is a perfect gun to teach a first time shooters. Many times I see people using a 45 ACP or something like that with someone who never shot before. No wonder they get scared of guns plus they dont find it fun as they dont hit anything. With a .22 LR its perfect to focus on the marksmanship and you hit the target with your first shot.

I did what David suggested , dremeled the chambers , polished with toothpaste , shot 100+ rounds last week , No issues. All spent shells dropped out by hand. Looked at some other Taurus revolvers @ gun shop and 38s - 357 , all had rough non polished chambers. Gun shop owner says Taurus has fit & finish quality issues. I will never get another one. With that said , the new Ruger revolvers has rough finish quality issues also , unbelievable! All my S&W's are smooth in quality & finish.

58manoa My buddy has 2 Smith and Wesson revolvers with off center barrels. You can see it with the naked eye. lol Bad in all of them...some just cost 4-5 times more for the bad ones...it's a mind trick that companies use on consumers. Ah, the days when you could buy 500 rounds of 22lr for under $30.00! If only I had the foresight to buy several thousands of these rounds before the end of 2012. I still had a comfortable stash before the price gouging started. Nowadays, I look for bargains on 50 in a box. I remain confident that one day the price of .22lr will return to where they should be. Hickok, I like that Taurus .22; been thinking of buying a smaller version of the Taurus .22. My wife loves shooting the .22, as much as I do. Nice video Hickok. Nice, relax presentation!

I bought about a dozen boxes and people were looking at me funny. I wish that I had loaded the cart up with as many as I could have afforded! Still have some and even a couple of red boxes of the 550 rounds. I think that the cheapest that I ever paid was around $11.00 per 550 round box. Ahhhhhh...the good old days!

I've had one of these for 30 years or so. Mine is blued and has the old style wood Taurus grips, and doesn't have the Taurus version of the S&W Hillary Hole that the new ones have. This is a great little revolver and a good trainer for the Model 85 which I also have. I think the grips between these two are even interchangeable. .22lr isn't as cheap as it used to be back in the day, but it still isn't too expensive.

I recently purchased a Brand New ROSSI .22 Long Rifle Revolver from the Gun Store for $299. It is all Stainless Steel with a Rubber Grip. The Cylinder holds 8 rounds. It has a 6 inch Ventilated Rib Barrel. They call the gun "The Plinker" and that is what it says on the left side of the barrel. The gun is also available in a Black finish. And as you probably know - Rossi is now owned by Taurus - and they also have the BrazTech Name on the Guns - which I think is the distributor now for both Taurus and Rossi Firearms.

I then heard a thump in the sand, and found it maybe 6 feet in front of me, still spinning. I sold the Taurus .45acp and bought a 9mm CZ75b. My Taurus 94 has needed significant hand rasping, internal deburring, spring changes, and a new S&W yoke screw to get it to work.

I've had two Taurus 94s, with 4" and 5" barrels. The 5" piece was an earlier model (mid-'90s) and suffered from numerous failures to fire due to light strikes. I sold it. The 4" revolver was made in 2000 and has been much more reliable, but the DA trigger pull is like dragging an anvil through a sandbox. They're not bad guns, but don't expect the quality of a Ruger or S&W.

I had a blue Taurus .22 revolver 6 shot with a 3" barrel. I don't know the model, but it was cheap and accurate. It was also a gun that you should never dry fire since the firing pin would immediately be damaged. It looks like Hickock's stainless is ok with dry fire. I have used SW model 17 stainless revolvers in training and they also do not get damaged by dry firing.

Thanks for sharing your experience now I will know a surefire way to go about this if I ever work up the courage! I don't think I will polish my chambers I got a blued gun and it would be too easy to scuff up the rest of the gun. I read your previous comment and sadly I had the same problem used gun (taurus 94 2 in) after 1200 rounds the hammer transfer broke I had to replace it I think its that heavy hammer spring that breaks it+prev owner dry fire I lightened it hasn't had a problem since.

@savagesanity my experience: bought a Judge and was disappointed at the precision and tightness of cylinder lockup for what it cost. the firing pin broke and Taurus was right on top of sending Fedex over, for free, to pick it up and send to Florida to fix it. got it back in 3 days!! fired 10 rounds and works fine but i WILL sell it. i'm pretty sure i'll never buy a Taurus revolver again. recently paid the extra to get a S&W 357 revolver and am very impressed with the workmanship.

I agree that with close inspection you can see differences between Taurus revolvers, and S&W revolvers. However, in my experience, the differences are slight, and do not affect the usefulness of the gun. I have used several of each, and like both companies. If the Smith was 600, and the Taurus 500 I would go the extra, but the difference is almost double. Many will disagree I'm sure, and maybe their, or your experience has been different than mine. I've owned and used a Taurus Model 94 (4' barrel; blued steel; hard wood grips) since about 1993 and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Granting that the action is certainly not as smooth as a S&W K-22 (after, you get what you pay for), it is nonetheless a pleasure to shoot and has always been both reliable and accurate. Speedloaders (manufactured by HKS) are available for this gun and do much to facilitate rapid reloading when necessary. In my opinion, this revolver (in concert with easily carrying 200 or so lightweight rounds) would serve well as a convenient survival weapon entirely suitable for small game.

Yes, revolvers are cool too.

I must have got semi lucky with mine. I had one with a bad batch of cylinders. They drilled for the Magnum round, so firing the LR the cartridge expanded and was almost impossible to eject with the star in the cylinder. Took 2 months, but I got it back and it's been shooting fine ever since. The cylinder lock up is... Well it's sloppy as hell for 4 of the 9 rounds, but so far no issues. IF you can afford it, S&W have great revolvers. But you could buy 2 of these for the S&W's prices new.

I just sold a model 941 in .22 magnum. I bought a Ruger MK II 22/45 to replace it. It was a wise decision because that little Ruger is a blast to shoot and a good deal more accurate than the Taurus model 941. The heavy double action trigger pull makes it too hard to hit with and the 22 magnum ammo is a little on the pricey side for large volume plinking. If you must have a revolver spend a little more and buy a Smith & Wesson.

Never tire of Hick's material (even the so called "vintage" stuff in these Hi-Tech times) and I happened to run across this when I was researching my Taurus 990 SS. Fine gun to be sure. Yup, "those were the days" before the "22lr insanity" hit...Now my gun costs $400+ and 500 round box of ammo is lucky to be had for less than $40...? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot! Anyhow it is what it is but .22lr is as "Americana" as it gets so people will buy it until their last breath to be sure...BTW, I know I say it all the time, but MAN am I jealous of you Gents that have their own range/property and don't have to travel like it's a freaking vacation to find a good outdoor range...Indoor ranges anymore are a dime a dozen in big urban "NORMAL" American Cities (which I patronize and appreciate) but outdoor ranges are another thing all together.

I've used those three bulk .22s. It seems to me like the Federal and Winchesters are extremely similar. They might even be made on the same machines. They're accurate and reliable; the only problems I've had have involved a Ruger Mark 2 with a weak striker. The Remingtons, however are foul. They're dirty, inaccurate, and inconsistent. .22 BB is hard to find, but Academy Sports and others carry the .22 CB. CB long is the most common, but CB shorts are not impossible to locate. I have a bullet trap set up in my basement so on rainy days I can step down there with one of my revolvers and a box of CBs and plink away.

Definitely do not try shooting a magnum through an LR cylinder, but they wouldn't fit anyway. Get a convertible (or as some call them "combos"). Ruger makes a great convertible in the Single Six. Some have complained that the Taurus convertibles are a bit stiff. Though, honestly, there's absolutely NOTHING wrong with a Heritage Rough Rider convertible. They're cheap, but I have never had a problem with one... unlike the more expensive Taurus Tracker.
