I’ve owned a 1998 Mitsubishi Galant. I bought it brand new. There’s something special about Mitsubishis especially from the 90s. Yes they have faults but you can definitely sense the rally heritage in their cars. Great engines, good handling, beautiful designs, and comfortable cars. I have owned several cars since I sold it including a BMW E92. But no car touched my heart like Mitsubishi.

And you can do everything on your own. Most of the Cars you get today make it seem that the manufacturers want to keep you from doing things yourself. My first car in 2007 was a 19 Year old Mercedes Benz diesel built in 1988, which was my birth year. I loved that car so much, you could fill it up with 2 bottles of booze and it would run lmao. No joke! Engine had half a million on the clock the day i sold it and it had NOTHING wrong except changing a faulty diesel pump. Sold it because taxes got to expensive and i was just starting my apprenticeship and had little money. I miss that old thing to this day. Prob. not going to be as lucky to get it back. I would still run though, i`m certain of that!

Hey Freddy, JP Here - thanks for the cameo and assist with the 996 Turbo! Turned out to be a five-cent washer that was cross-threaded on the clutch accumulator on top of the transmission. Once we got it in the air it took about thirty seconds to correct. Fun with 20-year old sports cars! Like for like, glad we could get you sorted in Santa Fe and you could give us a little push to get back on the road. Very much appreciated and that camaraderie is a centerpiece of the rally. @angry_zergling

I was just starting high school after the first Fast and the Furious came out, so all my friends and I, naturally, wanted to be super cool street racers. For my first car I really wanted either a 3000GT V4 5-speed, a turbo 300zx 5-speed, or a 96' or newer Trans Am 6-speed (Or Supra or FD RX-7 but realistically they were far out of my price range). All I could afford in the end at 16 was a 95k miles, 1.8 liter Mazda MX-3 GS 5 speed with a flowmaster exhaust for $3,000. But it didn't stop me from (slowly) racing against friends haha. Today, looking a little deeper into the 3000GT when I know (slightly) more about cars it amazes me how awesome the 3000GT V4 was, especially for '94. That '94 VR4 was a coupe with a very advanced 4WD system and did 0-60 in like 5.2 seconds stock, and in early-mid 90's low 5's was really fast. Like, supercar territory. Ferrari 512 times. Serious beast. Probably closest thing you could get in the states to an R33 or R34 Skyline. Very pretty aesthetically too - love those long Japanese 90's coupes with that 'third door' partial hatch with huge spoiler. Some day, if I can financially swing it, I would like to get a clean '96+ Supra or clean 3000GT VR4 or FD RX-7. I might currently be running an American V8, but I grew up lusting after Japanese imports and they'll always have a special place in my heart.

angry zergling you and me sound like we’re basically the same age, and similar likes. My old truck that I drive when I’m not driving a company vehicle is a good old Chevy 350 engine but I have a very sweet spot in my heart for the Nissan 300zx or Mazda RX-7 FD. I’d love to find one and do something similar to this video with it.
@angry_zergling
@angry_zergling 4 жыл бұрын
@@blueline15 Yeah same! I couldn't really afford one of those cars similar to the ones we liked back in the day (at least not a reliable one) so last year I bought a 2007 Mustang GT 5-speed manual instead. It's not very fast but it's the fastest RWD manual car I could get for a decent price that still had low mileage, and it despite the 15 miles per gallon thing it fits the bill as a reliable daily driver. After going several years of driving a really slow fuel-efficiency mobile with an automatic it feels great to go zipping around banging through the gears in a loud ass car again. It really lit a fire in my soul and reminded me why we used to dream about cars and I hope that someday soon I'll be in the position to get one of those Japanese cars we'd all drool over back in high school.
@blueline15
@blueline15 4 жыл бұрын
@@angry_zergling nice, man. Nothing wrong with that. Owning fun cars, fortunately, doesn't ever have to stop with age and we have many decades of life to go to own those cars. My work has a '06 Mini w/ the 5-speed manual. It's not even the S model, however, I drive it the most since no one else likes the manual, and I'm not going to lie, it's a pretty fun little car to rip around in. Turns quick, sounds pretty good, and the torque kicks in around 3500-4k so it just asks to be driven hard.
@angry_zergling
@angry_zergling 4 жыл бұрын
@@blueline15 Hell yeah, a car doesn't have to have tons of horsepower and be rear/AWD to be fun. Really tiny FWD cars with manual transmissions can be tons of fun, too. Twisty-turny roads where you can really practice the technical aspects of driving. With more powerful vehicles you're always on the knife's edge if you're pushing them to their limits, but with more relaxed sports cars you can push them hard without making each turn a life-or-death series of decisions. So you can keep the pedal buried but still have a fun time without having your heart caught in your throat for the duration.

Tavarish and Jared you guys are the epitome of the American Dream. Two guys living the American Dream and I felt like I was there will you guys the entire 2,750 miles of the race. You guys have an amazing friendship. I see you guys growing old and when your in your 80's still being friends and reminiscing about times like the one you just accomplished. Tavarish your content is amazing and it would NOT be the same if you didn't have Jared. You guys are like Batman and Robin, De niro and Pacino, Ernie and Bert. This was such a great little mini-series you guys put together. Great friends, Great Car, Good Times!!! Keep doing what you guys are doing it makes a difference. God Bless and as always enjoy what remains of your day.

Thats how you know you have a true connection with your car, its when you own the best of the best cars out there but you still prefer the mitsubishi over them and that connection between the driver and the car is truly special and important to when it comes to driving, EVEN if all you do is rip it down the streets in your car, nothing is better that to feel the connection everytime you look at the car and its inspiring to see the love between you and your 3000GT its something really special and its amazing to see people like you out there GOOD WORK.

This was a great youtube experience . If you love cars , love to work on cars , love to drive cars . Then you would love this video from beginning to end ... I'm going to say this and I don't know if this is something already being done , but there should be a KZbin rally ! Where all the well known and not so well know car KZbin's get together and have a road rally of there own ... I think it would truly be one of the greatest events on youtube , plus everyone would follow it because of the huge amount of viewer ship that you tube gets already from its car enthusiast .. Lastly I just want to say ,Great Job !

I moved with my family to California from Maryland in 2017, settling two hours north of San Francisco. I love the Lost Coast and I’m glad you hung a left in Honeydew. Your car would not have survived going the other way towards Shelter Cove. I am so glad you got to experience Avenue of the Giants. My first time through it the beauty had me in tears. San Francisco is truly a unique city and one I love to frequent. Now you’ve got me wanting to go on a Dirtball run in my bare bones 89 Toyota pickup that’s pushing 300,000 miles.

Sir, you are truly living the dream. A re-discovered, beloved car alone is a dream come true for many, then you add a road trip, some of the country's best scenery and roads, a good friend, and lots of friendly strangers and you've got a experience you'll remember for a lifetime.

Great video, i LOVE my Mitsubishi too. 15 years ive had it, and im not going to get rid of it any time soon. There is a gear box kit available for the 3000GT VR4, from PPG gearboxes here in Australia. Pretty much makes the bullet proof , Mitsubishi Australia was using them as a rebuild kit option.

Some cars are the unicorns to a special owner and the GT is yours Tavarish. You are right, a car has a soul.. something that is beyond the sum of its parts, the sheer joy and experience of driving it through a landscape etched in time. How for the moment it connects you to why, with who and what we drive for.

@Tavarish I am new to your channel, the first vid I saw was you getting your car back, then watching you build it up and now the Dustball Rally. And I have to say that after watching your experience, and even tearing up at the end because I know how much this must have meant to you and see how happy it made you, it was so easy for me to click to subscribe to your channel because of this. I just got myself a 2015 Civic Si and within a few days I have lowered it, exhaust, rims and tires, some video cams front and back, some lighting, and just today I fitted a roof rack because I plan on making my own dream come true this coming summer. To drive from where I live in Winston Salem, NC to San Francisco, CA. Cross country road trip. No motels, we will be camping. And anything we see along the way, even if its 20 miles out of the way, we will go see it. So it wont be a straight shot. I am a freelance video/photographer and a license drone pilot with a new 4k drone, so I want to get tons and tons of footage of the country from coast to coast. Ive had this dream sense I was 17. Im 40 now, so its time. And after seeing your adventure, it makes me look forward to my own just that much more. Thank you and Jared Pink for sharing your own experience. Maybe Ill see you on the road sometime! :-)

3 years late watching this video but this was one of the best automotive videos/documentaries I have watched. I love when a vehicle has a story and seeing what it was to what it is now and continuing to build its own legacy. Not only your amazing 3KGT added more it's story...you made memories with good friends for a lifetime that could go on forever. What a great video...this inspires and motivates me in efforts for my vehicles. Thank you🤜🤛

1996 Ford Ranger, 4.0, single cab, short bed. I had it from 1998-2011. Purchased with 27k miles, left it with 334k miles. I knew every sound. I could FEEL how fast I was going. After hauling load after load of decorative rock, helping friends move, moving myself at least 12 times, going to/through 32 states, and getting married and having a kid, the transmission finally let go and it went to the recycler yard to become one of thousands of cubed wrecks. I have spent the last 2 years, since my divorce, looking for its replacement. Unfortunately, regardless of how bulletproof the 4.0 engine was, the rest of the truck is apparently hard to take care of. Nothing but junk found. I've had much newer cars. I've owned faster vehicles, more expensive vehicles, better looking vehicles, but all were heartless fiberglass, plastic, and cheap foreign crap. Were I a rich man, I'd own a showroom condition, "new", 1996 Ford Ranger to once again go coast to coast, drive daily, and thoroughly relive ages 19 to 30 in. I spent days straight in its comfy seats. It survived an ex girlfriend slamming it in neutral. I was even homeless for 11 months, sleeping in the cab (I'm 6'2" and weighed almost 300lbs at the time) at a rest stop on I-475. Everyone should have that ONE vehicle they'd rather do 70 mph in than some flashy sporty junk that can do 200. I'd trade a testicle AND a kidney to get that truck back as it was when I purchased it for 10 grand back in 1998.

There is no car more special or unique than 'your' car. From the rattles, shakes, squeaks and noises that only your car makes to just knowing its soul and character. To me, that is more special than the most exotic super-cars, sounds like you guys found that in this series. The 3000GT is a gorgeous car, there's something about those 90's Japanese sports cars that always looks 'right'.
