Very interesting look to a style of archery and a time period I am completely unfamiliar to. My arrows seem to be a bit back-heavy according to Taybugha's method. No matter, as he'd disapprove of their plain parallel shafts too haha. They seem to do the job for casual recreational shooting, where the shooter is most to blame for poor grouping. Looking forward to the next episode! Tulipas hinku päästä mökille pistämään uusia reikiä maalitauluun

Hehe. I also usually shoot with plain parallel shafts too, and happy with the results. As we're not members of ancient paid elite troops who are provided with the best available gear we gotta compromise sometimes. :) However, it feels great to shoot and study the archery with top of the notch arrows sometimes. Thank you so much for your videos, Ugri! You surely have spent some time to extract all the details and take the videos! ☺️🙏 The book seems to be a rarity meanwhile. The more I appreciate what you are doing and sharing your studies! Thank you so much! 🙏🙏🙏

Thank you so much, Agama, for the kind and inspiring words. The book is indeed a rarity. I bought it years ago and paid for it a lot more than for most of my bows. :) Luckily it's available somewhere in the internet too as a .pdf for those who want to browse it i digital format. (I don't have a link at hand now, but shouldn't be too hard to find.)

Thank you. Of course the arrow design depends a lot on the style you're shooting with, but I find the nock and feathers proportions very practical for everyday arrows too.

Thanks a lot for sharing those details! any specifics on the type of wood best suited for these arrows? Beautiful work!
@UgriArcher2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. There's no mention about the specific arrow wood except that it should be "hard, solid wood". These arrows are of spruce.

Hello , very informative video, thank you! I want to ask about several things, hope you can help As I remember in both books Saracen and Arab archery recomedet to leave ends of feathers untrimmed and cut from the base (martin wing), did you tried it? it will work good with recomanded space one-half finger from nock groove? And also want to ask about your bow string, you do not use nocking point on it at all? Does it affect accuracy?
@UgriArcher3 ай бұрын
Hi there, and thank you. The martin wing shape - which indeed comes from not trimming the feather end - is mentioned in the both books, and I've had that kind of fletching in use as well. It works just fine, but fingers indeed get in touch with the pointy feather end - but it's fine. Feathers are something that wear out in fast nocking anyway. In this video there's no nocking point on the string, and one can learn to place the arrow in level without it just fine - if it's practised a lot. But normally, most of the time, I do use nocking point on the string.

That is very great information about arrow has been used by master archery Taybugha, if you don't mind can you tell me about weight (in gram) the head, shaft and fletching. i want to compare with the information in the book, it's written by someone who have deep knowledge about arab archery, it's based two ancient manuscripts.
@UgriArcher2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. The heads in these weigh about 4,3 grams. The whole arrow mass is about 30 grams. This meets Taybugha's rule where the head should weight 1/7 of the total arrow mass. This should be in line also with (Taybugha's) recommended arrow mass for about 52lbs bow for which these were made for. About the fletching I think the video tells quite a bit, and also about the shaft profile. If there's anything else you need to know feel free to ask.

In terms of foc, what is best foc? 7 ? 8 % ?
@UgriArcher3 жыл бұрын
It's impossible to say the overall best value for everyone, as it depends on many factors, and your archery style/purpose/gear. Something like 8-11% seems quite common for target shooting, but for impact much higher foc is advocated. The best way is to experiment and observe the arrow flight and shooting results.
