More pop stars should put their writers in the spotlight. It’s sad that I didn’t know who she was until Ariana started publicly praising her. She’s been that girl for years. Her and Victoria Monet will be huge one day.

Can’t wait until you do Victoria Monet 🖤. She definitely deserves. I also want to know what you think of Muni Long. I never knew she was a songwriter and was basically writing lots of hits for other people before she went viral with Hrs and Hrs.
@naomi.cannibal2 жыл бұрын
My feelings on Muni Long are… undecided. I was a fan of hers back in middle school when she was Priscilla Renea (stream Dollhouse) and had NO idea she was Muni Long until maybe a month ago? I honestly think it’s great that she didn’t give up (bc I first heard her in like 2009/2010?) and rebranded in a way that seems to be bringing her success but still seems authentic to her, esp after all this time. So I don’t necessarily listen to her music but I’m a fan of the rebrand bringing her success. And Yesss Victora Monet vid will be coming!

Reminds me of Mariah Carey -who *finally* just got inducted into The Songwriters Hall of Fame this year (omg her speech was amazing), thought that all artists wrote their own music. When she first got to Sony, they said "...and here are your writers..." She said, "Look I'll sign whatever you want me to, but I'm not singing nobody else's mf songs". Mariah has written 15 albums and counting, she writes all genres even gospel, wrote 28 top 10 hits, 18 of those went to number one, Her songs stay at number one for months at a time!!! And her Christmas bop sets and breaks so many records every year!" Shake it Off" never made it to number one only because "We Belong Together" was blocking it! Only Mariah could do something like that😂. She was basically blacklisted for putting rappers in her songs when her producers asked her not to, but true artist need to express themselves! She wrote a song to the industry called "They Can't Take That Away From Me". Because of ageism she does not get attention on her music, but I loved her last album "Caution" about her affair with her back up dancer while she was engaged to The Billionaire. Anyway, Wow great video!! Let me go and check out some more!!!!❤️

@@naomi.cannibal Yes Mariah writes all of her songs (except any covers like, "I'll Be There" which was originally sang by The Jackson 5. -Covers happen everyday, but only 9 covers in history has gone number one twice, and her cover of "I'll be There" is one of them)! *Mariah sang and wrote music to escape from the drama that came from growing up in a broken family home and also growing up biracial.* Her career achievements will blow your mind, so we won't go there, lol, and her vocal skills are unmatched, but it's the writing that she says has always been her favorite part about recording, and releasing music, and it shows! I would say the biggest thing to take from her career is that her producers told her not to work with rappers. It was unheard of at that time for pop acts to do those types of collabs or any at all. Mariah was a mega star at this point and they begged her not to, but hey, she is from NY, and grew up listening to rap..so because her contracts stats: "I write my own songs", they had no choice but to let her record the songs she wanted which was with a rapper, and "Fantasy" remix ft Ol' Dirty Bastard was born. "Fantasy" became the first song in music history to debut at number one! The song is still a success today, but it got Mariah basically blacklisted from the industry...they want puppets to control not actual artists. Thankfully, Mariah later got a BET Hip Hop Honors award for basically creating the lane for rappers and pop artists to do collabs together! She still writes. I stand for any artist that stands up to the music industry like she did. "Don't let anybody tell you how to live your dreams" -Mariah Carey

Something about a cultural appropriating white girl getting awards for the work of 2 talented black women rubs me up the wrong way but it’s such a reflection on the music industry and society as a whole. Yes I know Victoria and Tayla are professional songwriters but Ariana picking those girls is not an accident.
@naomi.cannibal2 жыл бұрын
No I agree for sure. I have always felt that way about them. Ari picked the girls who could get her close to blackness and that sound. And they’re building her career off of their culture lowkey when if they kept the songs for themselves they would have never saw half the success Ari did no matter what. At least they seem to be friends tho.
@Sofianova172 жыл бұрын
@@naomi.cannibal yes to all of this!! black people and especially black women are the backbone of the music industry we see today whilst simultaneously never being able to garner the same mainstream success as their white counterparts. If that isn’t white supremacy and capitalism then I don’t know what is. Those pictures of them standing behind Ariana like that also made me feel weird like they are her little helpers 😭
@sevil97032 жыл бұрын
@@Sofianova17 that picture is on arianas birthday, hence why shes in the middle and them behind her. at least ariana always goes above the bare minimum of giving these talented women credit, and uplifts these women and their art. the sheer amount of times she has publicly promoted and showed support to victoria’s music shows that she has such great respect for these women and their talent. she also regularly brings them to interviews with her and has them interviewed too, as they play such a huge role in arianas music (eg zach sang interview in 2019). she clearly has so much respect for them and their art, and makes sure everyone knows it.
@Sofianova172 жыл бұрын
@@sevil9703 I’m not to bothered about the context of the picture because there’s many pictures/videos where they have been in the background whilst Ariana is shining in the front. It don’t matter if she praises them because that’s how she tries to justify it to the public for her it’s part of an aesthetic, sometimes you have to look deeper than what these artists tell you. Having 2 black girls standing behind her and working with her was good for her business as they were creating hits for her as was it helping her aesthetic whilst she was trying to assert herself as a racially ambiguous woman. When you’re looking at an image it creates a message consciously or subconsciously that’s why context often doesn’t matter when you’re looking at photos just like I didn’t know this picture was taken on her birthday you’d only know if you yourself wanted to understand the context behind the picture. Most people look at pictures and keep scrolling.
