My biggest take from Tayla is intentionally. When she said "What do you want out of this?", it felt really challenged. I believe that there is a unique perspective i can bring to the table through my storytelling ability, but i also want the talent ("singer") to shine. I've been writing in my home village, right here in South Africa 🇿🇦 & this came at the right time. I've got to keep on keeping on nurturing my talent. Some day I might also end up with a #1 Billboard song. Only God knows ❤

Everyone always glosses over how they went from writing songs in their teens to how they actually got to the point where they are in studios and writing sessions. This is no different. Doesn't really talk about the path at all, just kind of patting herself on the back for most of the video.

The real answer is music split sheets and writing for independent artists. The problem with majors is as a songwriter, if your song doesn't get picked up, you don't get paid. Same with producers, unless you're paid for the beat upfront. You could also sell songs upfront, but there's the chance they'll get stolen. Unsolicited demos to labels also have been stolen without credit in the past. In short, the best way to get paid would probably be to latch onto an upcoming artist and be part of their camp, and make sure that your contracts with them are on point, that you create automatic royalty splits on the distributor site upon song upload.

Maybe don't brag about writing 7 Rings on the thumbnail, when the 8 cowriters had to surrender 90%(!) of the publishing to the Rogers/Hammerstein estates because (as far as I know) they never got permission to use My Favorite Things. And let's be clear, it took 2 people to write "Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings" and 8 people to write "I want it, I got it, I want it, I got it". And no disrespect to Tayla, just that abomination of a song -- in my opinion.
