I just now paid $99 for this very same guitar (minus the pickup) as a promo for buying a 712E. Not bad. Thanks for the excellent videos Chris. Your Taylor review videos convinced me to buy a Taylor. I hope Bob sees this.

Sounds like the Taylor big baby. I used to own one. I liked it at first but, as time went on I thought The Sapele makes it sound like a tin can. Just my opinion. Some people may like it. I sold mine.

That’s just what Taylor’s sound like. They have a rather unrestricted high end…

Yes, it is a built this way for strength, so bracing on the back is not needed.

What happend to the bridge if you set up Steel strings?
@judeshk6 жыл бұрын
There is a steel string version in the same series, which is called Taylor Academy 12 E. So you don't have to set up steel strings on this nylon string acoustic guitar.

I don't have this guitar, but under typical circumstances, it would fold in on itself

Yep, get the 12e then, save $50 and have a guitar built for the extra tension of steel strings.

I've seen this guitar played by others and it has intonation problems in the upper frets. I'd never tell the player- the proof has been recorded. So though your intonation is OK I'm not tempted to buy Taylor.

Chris, this did not sound as clean as the metal string Taylor Academy 12. Your signature piece was not clean. I guess I will will be getting a Taylor Academy 12 to learn the guitar. You tried to make this guitar sound great. it did not move me. I do!!!! Enjoy your KZbin Videos. Thank you.

Nylon strings sound very different from steel strings. And feel very different.

I will stick with my takamine p3fcn. True it cost twice as much but it's a much better sounding and quality guitar. Taylor guitars in the higher end are nice but they cost alot also. I bought a taylor 710 25 years ago for 500 dollars used. Pretty good deal i know. I played it live for quite some time. Then i discovered martin parlor guitars and other smaller snappy blues guitars. I sold the Taylor for 1850 at a nice profit and really don't miss it. My Martin whiskey sunset sounds better. True i can't go crazy past the 12th fret but i have an older gibson sj for that stuff. Occasionally i will play a couple taylors at a local music store and they sound like crap. they stay in tune are machine made and beautiful to look at. something is missing though. They aren't worth the asking price. My older 710 did have a very sweet sound. Just got tired of it's huge size. I played one of these 12n ones and it didn't have a good sound. Since my only lessons were classical i played a couple of bach pieces that Segovia arranged and some Spanish songs. Neither sounded very rich or authentic. There was an older alvarez nylon guitar in the shop with a cedar top that was leagues above in tone. It was selling for 500 bucks. If you want a nylon hybrid that plays like a dream and does sounf better than the Taylor get the Martin. It is more expensive but a guitar will hold it's value if it isn't a piece of lumber. MT

Those streaks down the middle of the instrument don't do the guitar any favors. Looks like a water stain though I know it's not.

I once knew a guy that owned one of the best known music stores in Dallas ( Larry Morgan of Arnold and Morgan Music). He sold me my first Fender Amp and 40 years later my last Martin Guitar before he died. I once overheard him talking to someone about doing a "gig". Years later I asked where and what instruments he play. Larry laughed and confessed he wasn't talking about playing an instrument, because he wasn't a musician. He said was probably getting ready to supply and send out concert equipment for somebody like Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones or The Cream. I was really surprised because Larry had the best musical equipment and instrument expertise of anyone I had ever met.

Lucy, I think Alamo and Guitar Center type music stores are doing a great job show casing their instruments to the general public/new players. There are too many choices out there easily confuse new buyer. The sound is accurate and this is an entry level guitar so the sound is not meant to be warm, deep, rich, & full like a solid, rosewood guitar but it does sound really good. If you are a seasoned guitarist, you would go to your choice boutique, high end instrument stores to demo yourself. IMO, This model of Taylor is a mega value for what you get. besides, the Taylor neck is the most comfortable of most if not all the guitars out there. Its hard to put it down once you start playing. In fact, the higher end guitars are in the thousands and those people won't even consider a non solid top guitar for good reasons even if its only $699. If u can play, u would not make this kinda comments.

So please enlighten us as to your apparently impressive guitar talent. As a beginning guitarist considering this Taylor, I found the information presented to be very helpful, and thought the playing did a nice job demonstrating the tone and playability of this “entry level” guitar. Besides, this seemed to be meant as a review and demo of the guitar, not a display of Chris’s playing skills...which I’m betting are way better than a brief review and demo give him an opportunity to share. By the way...Leo Fender didn’t play guitar, nor did Bill Collings. Didn’t seem to limit their ability or knowledge much. By the way #2...I’m also betting a reasonable number of the Alamo Music and Guitar Center guys probably knows the difference between “their” and “they’re”.
