Connor Kennedy was a cringe summer fling. Harry Styles brings all the drama. I feel ashamed for buying into the swan float picture of Calvin and Taylor. Tom Hiddleston is my personal favorite just because he's not problematic and I am also a Loki fangirl. Joe Alwyn gets a pass for how he contributed to Taylor's music, but he should get into modeling cuz his acting career is going nowhere. Matty Healy is my personal least favorite, even worse than Mayer, because he made Taylor SO STUPID for the messiest hot girl summer ever Can't wait to see what songs Travis inspires beyond "So High School." And I'll still die on the hill thinking The Alchemy is a Tayvis song.

In the songs about Matty you see lines that if you know 1975 or Matty you know they are about Matty but The Alchemy has nothing about Matty. To me it says she is done with English men and living in London and glad to be back in the US for an American guy. Or she met Travis and went back on touring overseas and Travis has football and they don't see each other and she gets a break, and she sees Travis has still reserved his heart for her. The Fortnight video is so Matty coded. The songs about Matty are so Matty coded. The Alchemy wasn't Matty coded at all.

Haylors like to claim they dated for a few months that spring, but when? Taylor wrote "Everything Has Changed about Conor Kennedy at the end of May. That relationship was actually longer than people think - just as long as her relationship with Harry, possibly even longer. Also, do people listen to the lyrics of IKYWT? It's a scathing song. Taylor said that she saw the red flags and dated him anyway. "Shame on me." If it's about Harry, why would she date him AGAIN that fall? That makes Taylor look extremely stupid. If that's the case, she deserved all the criticism she got about her dating life. When Taylor sang "IKYWT" at the Brits in Feb 2013, she said, "It's not hard to access that emotion when the person the song is DIRECTED AT is standing by the side of the stage watching." Even though 17-18 year old girls may be viewed and treated through a difference lens than boys, a 17-18 year old is still that age, regardless of gender. One of his parents ended their life a few weeks before he met Taylor, and seemingly she DID “use and throw away” him, for her Kennedy obsession / summer romance, didn’t she? So he was at a vulnerable state beyond just age. I’m not here to hate or imply she’s a bad person OR that it’s a John/Jake situation, I just have always seen this as something very weird. 17-18 year old boys can be vulnerable to toxic relationship dynamics too. You need to remember this is after john mayer and jake. I wouldnt be surprised if she thought it was okay because they did it and that there was a smaller age gap. Also before she dated those 2 guys she could haave regressed to a time before them which would be 18 and 19. In saying this harry styles and conner relationships feel icky because they both seem vulnerable and harry seemed to be messy since he was so restricted then got a bunch of freedom with the british coming of age where he could a license and drink with alot of other things.

I will just say on the topic of Matty's chaotic creativity and the parallels to Swift's structured processes: Matty has an extreme case of ADHD and if you've followed his music for any period of time it's really clear that his flighty chaotic "mess" is what makes his art so appealing. It's why Swift was such a fan of the band's work. His lyricism is really like a Dr. Seuss character with ADHD but if you had chronic depression on a hot summer night in LA. It's wacky and different but deeply relatable.
