The song itself is written in a form of a letter. Of course it’s obvious who the song is about.. the double meaning behind the title is very clever. But nevertheless she never mentioned John Mayers name although she was asked about it many times she always replied by explaining the meaning of the old expression. I don’t think it’s bad for artists to write about their experiences. It makes their work more personal to them and I’m sure it helps them get over whatever it is they’re going through. Not only that I think the songs helps some of the fans who can relate to her experiences. The same thing could be said about poems, books etc.. I don’t agree with the fans attacking John Mayers. Please Swifties respect her feeling and wishes. I have already seen/heard where a lot of us have been still attacking him. We are only making ourselves look bad and Taylor look bad. If we care about her we need to respect her and focus on the concert and positive things about her. I think she really liked Matty and broke up with him, I think because of us, not her own feelings. I didn't know anything about him but watched one video and it was enough for me to have negative feelings but she saw a different side of him. Remember the words he said to the camera about her and she mouthed them back to him at her concert and blushed when she did. Jack and Phebe are both friends with him so he can't be that bad. He has said/done some things I didn't like but haven't most of our friends boyfriends done the same. People can change if they like a person enough. My husband did. I didn't ask him to but he realized when we got serious he changed and became a much better person. I did watch a video of a 1975 fan defending him and she was very honest about his behavior, pointing out the main issues Swifties had with him and it made me change my feelings some towards him. Some of the things she explained that we took out of context and some she agreed were stupid on his part. In an interview with him he explained how he enjoys playing a bad boy image and it was part of him being bored and his fans knew it was a character as he said it was. I forgot what video it was. If anyone wants me to go back and find it let me know on here and I will. No one knows what goes on in people's real lives. She doesn't owe us anything. We are making it so No One will ever date her again. It seemed like we ruined something good for her whether it was a fling, something she needed to get over Joe or true love. We all love her and her music but feel like we can make better decisions about her than she can. Her friends and family accepted him. I am a die hard Swiftie but we need to back off on those things or she will stop sharing things with us. Please write something like this if you agree on every Taylor site on KZbin or Social Media. At the end of "The Manuscript" she says, "The story isn't mine anymore." And she said something similar at the "All Too Well" short film premier when someone asked, "Who's it about?" She said it isn't about anyone. It doesn't even belong to her anymore, it's a song that she shares with the fans and it can be about anyone that they want. Let's put our efforts into politicians trying to strip women and the LGBTQ community of their basic rights and leave Taylor's exes alone. She is very happy right now. I'm sure she'd like to move on.
