I agree with you . This song is relatable, kind of sad as she was hoping he'd call to meet her behind the mall.Young love!

Certainly sad :/ but that's life. Especially with young love. It doesn't always work out the way that we hope.

During the last couple of years, I've been seeing more and more people change their minds about Taylor. Even people who call themselves "Taylor hater" 😁 And it all happened just by giving her music a chance to speak for itself. That's the beauty of it all.

Im one of them. The descriptions in these songs are so vivid that you can easily feel them as you lived them. Breathtaking!

I’m 71, and I only knew her radio hits, which I thought were cute. When I dove into her catalog last year, I was astounded by the diversity of her songs and how beautiful her voice is. Then when you find out what a beautiful person she is on the inside, I really fell in love with her!

You mentioned you were going to react to Betty, so I think people must have told you, but just un case I'll tell you there. Cardigan, August and Betty are telling same story, from three different point of view. Cardigan is the point of view of a girl, named Betty, that has been cheated on, Betty is a song from the point of the guy who cheated on her, and August is the point view of the girl he cheated on Betty with. There is a lot of clues. Don't forget the "Remember when I pulled up and say 'get in the car'" from this song, you'll find it again in Betty! I just watched all your reactions to Taylor Swift and subscribed, hoping for more! Folklore is a great way to start, I think. I'm looking forward to your journey of recovering her! Also, I feel like you would be interested by her process of songwriting. She has a habit of recording herself when she is struck with an idea/melody (even if it's in the middle of the night) and working in the studio. Some of theses videos are available online, especially for her album Reputation (search "Taylor Swift Now - The making of a song" or "Taylor swift being a songwriting genius for 13 minutes"). I would love to see you react to it and see what you think (and I know I'm not the only, those kind of reaction do usually well^^).

You’re missing out on the studio version, your reaction to betty should be studio version so you can get the full effect with instruments and curse words. 😉 While I enjoy seeing longpond getting love, just in my opinion I think first listen should be how Taylor intended it, however I’m glad to see you enjoyed this beautiful song!

I've watched both the studio version for August and Cardigan, and I actually didn't enjoy them as much. While studio versions might offer a version of what the artist had intended to be heard, it's not always the most honest. Live recordings offer a better understanding of an artists raw sound, and as a reactor and listener, that's more important to me.

To me picking one song over another is almost like saying which of your children is your favourite. Having said that, as much as August is beautiful, wait til you hear Ivy from her last album evermore. There's no video of it apart from Taylor's own lyric video, but I hope you make an exception. Here's a heads-up to help you understand the song. The narrator of the song is the wife of Emily Dickinson's brother, who is having an affair with Emily. Wait til you hear what Taylor does with the chorus just when you think the song is coming to an end. Enjoy!

Can I make a few suggestions ? Another "out-of-your-comfort-zone" that would be great to react to, is Harry Styles! Most people only associate him to One Direction and are usually pleasantly surprised by his solo music. Most of his singles are a good representation of his style and versatility. He's heavily inspired by 60s and 70s (I think, don't quote me on this haha). One Direction has also some great songs and has never really got out of their reputation of bubbly pop their label forced into them at the start of their career. But for their last two albums (and a little bit of the third one), they really started to get involve in the making of their music and the sound changes, a bit more rock, a bit more folky. I would love to see you react to them, but I don't know if you're ready haha A bit different is Stromae. He's a Belgium artist. He's a really big thing, here, in French speaking countries. I would recommend Papaoutai, Tous les mêmes, Formidable, Carmen and Quand c'est. I think they all have English subtitles (don't forget to put them on!) on the music videos, so you can understand the meaning behind the songs (very important). His music is more electro, dance-pop and maybe a little rap. It's hard to identify (for me at least). Really hope you will check him out!

Not even close. One Direction might have been out of my zone. And I've heard them... not a fan. But I love Solo Harry Styles. I think he's absolutely brilliant!

How come you didn't think you would like Taylor? For me I can never understand that thought being an OG Fan since the first sing Tim McGraw.
@DanFromHali3 жыл бұрын
Its not that I didn't think I would like her, its that I didn't. I have given her music the chance in the past, and it just wasn't for me. People have different tastes in music, like they enjoy different foods. Not everything is going to be for everybody, even if the artist is objectively good. I didn't like the genres she was playing, I didn't like a whole lot of her writing, I didn't like the way she was being marketed. I can go on and on with it. I can appreciate that she has always had talent, but that's about it. Her vocal style, music, writing, etc. have also evolved over the years, as she's evolved and spread out in to different genres as well though. Myself? I'm a rock fan. Moreover, hard rock, alternative, grunge, post punk, punk rock. That's where my tastes typically lie... Even spreading out in to metal. One of the earliest metal groups that I got interested in (Because my brother listened to them alot) was Korn. Jonathan Davis and his group epitomized nu Metal when they debuted in the 90s. By the time their self-titled album came out, Blind became an anthem for metal fans, as the new definitive sound for the genre. And wanting to be true to their music, and passion, Korn - Like Taylor -, changed... just a little bit, album by album, incorporating new sounds, new styles, until eventually it created a schism in their fanbase, with some thinking they drifted too far away from what made them popular in the first place. Today, Korn sounds nothing like what they sounded like in 1993-1994. The songs they write are different, sound different, almost like a different band all together. And some people, just didn't like it. But ultimately, Davis and crew, enjoy that change, and don't like having a static sound. So with Taylor Swift, as she changes, and evolves, and she venture in to music, and writing that interests me, I'm getting interested. That's all it is. It's not that I didn't think she was talented before. But I just had zero interest in sitting down to listen to the type of music she was writing and performing.

@@DanFromHali it's ok. It wasn't all about you though. It was more of a general comment about not understanding people not liking her. Especially when I loved her since the beginning and hearing every song. And not listening to all the garbage the media says about her which mostly lies. Just like the song the man, they wouldn't have did those things if she was a man.
@DanFromHali3 жыл бұрын
@@richardh776 yeah thats super fair. Ive never paid attention to that myself. I hate how the media portrays her myself. I still remember that Ellen Interview she did. Made me sick to my stomach. The worst thing about that to me though is that if it were a man writing and singing those songs, it would be completely different. Medias portrayal of women in vulnerable situations is very troubling.

@@DanFromHali thanks. I just want more people to love Taylor. For me, Taylor is the genius songwriter of this generation like the classics artists of the past. So lucky I am living in this era watching her do her thing live.

She has improved, I never was a fan. She was a cute kid when she started in country, that carried her more then talent. She developed into a very beautiful woman sounds like this style suits her better.
@DanFromHali3 жыл бұрын
That is pretty much exactly my opinion of her as well. I was never a country fan, and then she changed to top 40s pop, and I dislike that even more than Country. And I found her songs, especially her early stuff... unapproachable as well. But I have to commend her for taking the chance to evolve musically, and branch out and touch other music genre's and styles. Not many artists would do that. And even less would be received as well when they do. I think this suits her so well, and she seems really comfortable with it too.
@Starbuck-dr7yl3 жыл бұрын
i think her songwriting and storytelling has carried her career. she was a teenager, but she is an adult who would not have made it as far as she has gone and as critically acclaimed without talent that she grew into, and her songwriting has always been there. And what other artists switches genres left and right. NO one. A well written song can be sung in any genre. This style does suit her very well. But, this isn't new, she has always had this in her.
