This is how I see it: in the beginning a guy (who symbolizes her bf Joe Alwyn, who she wrote the song about btw) hands her a note, probably asking her out like the song talks about (the note sparkles as if it was magical). She's not in a good phase though, dealing with her reputation and overall unhappy. When she starts making faces in the mirror and being silly (just being herself), she becomes invisible because her true self is what people can't see (what hurts her, like when she thought the lady in the elevator was smiling at her, but she wasnt). So her dance and all that shows who she truly is, the Taylor the public and media can't see. We also see her looking at the note without really knowing what to do with it, probably unsure if she should give that new romance a shot, since her reputation is so bad right now and she's afraid he won't accept her (hence why she holds the note and kind of makes a wish in the end, hoping the date will go well). When she gets to the bar soaking wet and messy, without her usual perfect looks and behaviour, everyone looks at her (she's not dancing anymore, so the story isn't using the invisibility metaphor anymore and we go back to people seeing her normally like in the beginning) probably ready to judge her. But she doesnt care, cause she sees him (and as the lyrics show, he can see her true self, he looks past her reputation and likes her for who she is, which is everything she wanted!).

I agree exactly, she wrote this for her boyfriend of nearly 4 yrs but at this time it was new and filled with uncertainty. The song begins with Dive Bar on the East Side, where You At? It’s about him, they are meeting up in real life. She refers back to this dive bar, 2 albums later on the song Invisible String, a love song about their relationship. She refers to him wearing a blue shirt, and in her songs when she talks of the color blue she is Referring to him. And she is wearing blue in the video.

BelleBeast that's not true. Her only album with no co-writers at all is Speak Now. She writes the songs, but there are a couple of guys who help her finish them. She's incredibly talented regardless

Yes,but she’s the brainchild behind all the songs,they may add a word here or there but a big chunk it is all her,Speak Now she wrote all of because a moronic critic said teenagers couldn’t possibly write there own stuff,so she took that as a challenge,lol,on other albums like RED she said she had help in trimming down the songs because some of them were ending up being too long,so a co writer would help her shorten it,but the last two records she’d come up with a melody or Jack Antonolff would come up with a melody and she’d come up with the lyrics,even if a co writer writes one or two lines they still get credit,but the meat of those songs is all Taylor.

this song is about her boyfriend Joe, She is saying to us that she was not happy with all that reputation, then joe appeared and he kept her away from all the drama, and the snake thing, and she could do anything she wants, she is happy, that note is Joe in other words, at the end she goes to the bar where he was, you can notice in the beggining that she was not happy, but when she sees him, she is.

I love watching your reactions, you guys are so funny!! I love this video... Compared to her other music videos from Reputation, this is much more personal. I think it's about how closed off she feels when she's under so much scrutiny from the media and strangers that doesn't really know the real her. When she meets the guy in the bar at the end of the video, her life lights up. She doesn't really feel like a prisoner anymore.. He's all that matters, cause he sees who she truly is.
