So basically it's a story from Taylor's perspective. Her friends Este's husband cheats on her and when she confronts him, he kills her to be with his mistress. so Taylor kills the husband and frames the mistress.

Este is Taylor's friend she thinks her husband is cheating on her she calls him out and he kills her and report her missing thats the first part of the song then taylor gotta get revenge for her friend so she kills the man and put the blame on this mistress because of the life insurance policy . I thought at first it was about different perspective the first one from taylor as estes friend the second from este and the last one from the mistress but its not cuz when she says estes sister gonna swear she was with me . Fun fact: Este is one of the (three) HAIM (pronounced hahy-ihm) sisters and she co-wrote the song, also the restaurant named in the song is actually Este's favorite and in the song when Taylor sings "Good thing Este's sister gonna swear she was with me" and someone says "she was with me dude" that is Danielle (Haim main vocalist), Este's sister in real life hehe.

This is the perspective of Este's friend- Este is saying she knows her husband cheated but can't prove it. Then Este goes missing and Taylor (the friend) says I know he killed her but I can't prove it. Then she references the boat because she can dump his body, her friend is going to give her an alibi, and the mistress took out life insurance which gives the mistress an incentive to kill him. So the mistress is the perfect one to blame for his death. Basically, the friend of Este is getting revenge for killing her.

How did they miss the whole first and third verses and misinterpret them? It was very easy to follow. It was a double murder. First perspective of no body, no crime is Este’s discovery of his infidelity, then it’s Taylor’s suspicions that her friend was murdered, lastly it’s him getting murdered and authorities believing the mistress did it while the mistress believing that Taylor did it. But since there’s no body, there’s no crime 🤷🏻‍♀️
