technically Im not sure why they sang the harmonies together, but if Taylor wanted it to have church choir vibes you would want their vocals together to create that very church choir gospel vibes where the voices are all together as one as you would hear it in a church

Hozier is using a not-native-to-him phrase. “Take me to church” is used colloquially all over the South, not here in Ireland. They’re both riffing on gospel/spiritual motifs.
