I didn't realize the significance of 22 until I found out that Jake Gyllenhaal didn't show up to her 21st birthday. 22 is just a big FU to him. She's basically saying I'm done with 21, it's time for happy birthdays. Her songs are always thoughtful and deliberate no matter how silly they sound.

RED is considered one of her "not sonically cohesive" albums because of the rollercoaster of emotions you go through with the tracklist like from all to well to 22 and its said that its supposed to represent the different stages of love and i think she also represented it in 22 where she says "happy, free, confused, and lonely at the same time" she's literally a lyrical god i have no words.

You should go back and listen to “Daylight” from Lover. In the background at the end, she keeps repeating “I once believed love would be burning red” like she says in this album. Then she says “but it’s golden” which is the color theme several later songs. It makes the song even more impactful.

All too well is known as her best song she has ever written. She performs this in epic fashion at the Grammy’s. You now need to watch the live All Too Well at the Grammy’s. It’s a historic performance as one of the most emotional performances in Grammy history. Rolling Stone Mag 2020 lists RED as one of the top 100 albums ever made in history of music. It’s the only Taylor album to make the list. Holy Ground on piano in the BBC Live Lounge 2019 is excellent and a slowed down version of the song. It’s outstanding. The Lucky One is a fan favorite. The Lakes from folklore .... her escape plan. You are the lucky one because you got out, escaped, ran away. Her escape plan is moving to the Lakes, away from it all. Now she has Joe to run away with. She also references running away in Call it What You Want. A recurring theme. Escaping, getting out. Her first song was called “Tim McGraw”. I love Begin Again. He treated her like crap and made her feel like she was nothing. The lyric is that she has spent the past 8 mos thinking all LOVE ever does is break, burn , and end. Now she’s on a first date with someone who treats her nice and she doesn’t even know what to do because she is used to being treated so poorly. But, on a Wednesday in a cafe, she’s ready to begin again. It’s a perfect ending to this album because this album really tells a story. And at the end, she is ready to begin again, and start over. This phase is over, this guy is over, it’s time to start over. Which becomes 1989.

Because of the secret messages Taylor leaves in the written lyrics of her songs (she used to use some specific capital letters in the lyrics and if you put them all together, you got a little message for every song), we know that All Too Well, State Of Grace, Red, Sad, Beautiful, Tragic, I Almost Do and most of the album is about Jake Gyllenhaal. However, she made it quite clear that I Knew You Were Trouble was about Harry Styles and I suspect Begin Again is about him too, although it could also be about Connor Kennedy ("Everything has changed" is about him since the secret message for that song is 'Hyannis Port'), but I don't think so because she met Harry at the beginning of 2012 at an awards show and they dated for a brief time before she met Connor. In 2013 she gave an interview for Vanity Fair where she allowed some of her best friends to answer the interview for her and they talk about this boy (Harry Styles) and how she went to London to visit him and suddenly he disappeared leaving her alone at a party in a foreign country. She went back to the USA and then he messaged her to warn her about some pictures of him with another girl which were going to be published by paparazzi and how it was a misunderstanding. She broke up with him and that summer she dated Connor Kennedy. According to her friends, "this boy" (Harry Styles) pursued her for almost a year and they finally got back together in October 2012, just to left her again in January 2013. So Come back, be here (bonus track on Red) is also about him, while The Moment I knew is about Jake Gyllenhaal not going to her 21st birthday party when he had promised her that he will.

All Too Well gives me chills and i cry every time i listen to it, and this time is no exception. Hearing you analyze the lyrics whilst I’m sobbing my heart out and nodding to what you were saying is quite the sight i must say 🥴 loved this! I hope we get the 10 minutes version in the rerecording 🙏🏼🙏🏼

I love her little references she does to all her songs...like I think it was daylight on lover where she's talking about how she thought love was burning red but now she realised it's actually golden...maybe that was a nod to red?? Anyways I'm so happy that you're reacting to this album too now...it definitely made me fall in love with her😍 Also super curious what you think of Speak now...can't wait for that reaction!

Oh it was definitely a reference. In her Paris concert she plays Red, into All Too Well, into Daylight to highlight that connection between the lyrics.

Haha! All Too Well is considered her best song ever for a lot of her fan base 😊❤️🙏 you’re one of my favorite reactors! This is pretty much all about one relationship which makes it a super potent album.

The line "I used to think love would be burning red, but it's golden" in Daylight, makes reference to Red, btw. I know you will appreciate that connection. Her mind, I swear. Don't know how she manages to get all her references straight in her brain.

Is that even okay that I come back here every couple of days to rewatch Michael reacting to All to well?

I love how much he pays attention to her voice. I just really love how he not only pays attention to her song writing but also her vocals because she is known for not being the best singer. I am the exact same

Red was the album that made me fall in love. I hadn’t listened to previous albums. I watched her secret sessions video, and I thought she was so sweet, and so well spoken that I had to check it out. On first listen a swiftlet was born.

Starlight is a song she wrote about Robert and Ethel Kennedy after she read Ethel's autobiography.
