Whether a fan of Taylor Swift or not, it seems as though the entire Twittersphere has been in attack mode following Demi Lovato’s most recent Glamour Magazine, where she not-so-subtly body shamed Taylor and her squad, claiming that none of her friends have a ‘normal body’ and all have a false image of what people should look like.
After following up on her interview via Twitter, Demi spoke out revealing that she was still proudly unapologetic. A source close to E! News revealed that Taylor has also gotten word of the interview, adding that QUOTE, “Taylor has a tight group of women in her life that all have her and each other’s’ back and sometimes people just want that. She thought it was unnecessary for her to make those comments. They both have never been really good friends.”
So if you’re wondering whether Tay’s squad was deeply affected by the harsh jabs, they seem to be doing quite the opposite. Taylor and one OG squad member, Cara Delevingne, were busy FaceTiming last night all thanks to a photo posted by Cara on Instagram, along with the squad’s newest member. Cara helped Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson ring in her 27th birthday by chatting it up with T-Swift and posting the photo for 34 million followers to see… because of course any true squad member gets an Instagram birthday post to make it official, right?

Taylor has many females friends of all different body types, including friends she has known since she was a teenager. She has male friends too. She has never body shamed anyone, commented on their weight. She doesn't go around with her boobs hanging out, or have ridiculous surgery to make herself more attractive to men. In fact She has not commented on much in the last few months, and has ignored all that was thrown at her. Demi's issues with Taylor are nothing to do with feminism, it is about Selena Gomez who is one of Taylor's best friends. I doubt you truly know what feminism is.

Some people are born with a natural skinny body type and having a go at them calling them unrealistic is unfair and quite dumb when it's something they can't help - just as it is fat shaming and how some people have a slower metabolism. Skinny-shaming is still a form of body-shaming. I will concede that the average female size in America sits around size 16; however, this fact is irrelevant, as one person's perception of beauty should have no impact upon another person's body. Women come in all shapes and sizes. As long as a woman is healthy, the opinions of other women she matter very little.

i don't understand how she skinny shamed taylor?? she just said that everyone in her squad is supermodel thin (bc they are literally mostly supermodels) and if as you say, women come in all shapes and sizes, it's not realistic for girls to think that's what their group of friends should look like. i understand that taylor has lots of fans who think she can do no wrong but i don't see where demi said taylor looked gross being so skinny, or taylor is anorexic, or really anything. also, demi has had eating disorder issues in the past so probably sees taylor's squad and remembers what it was like being a young music fan/magazine reader and thinking that's what people should look like so it strikes close to home for her. also, don't ask me how i know this but taylor swift has said she only eats 1300 calories a day and runs 4-6mi on top of that so I don't exactly how healthy that is, but i still like her and think she looks great. I just wouldn't want my teenager learning those details if she was a huge fan.

If the opposite was said about a group of plus sized models and a comment was made saying they would only hangout with skinny girls, that would be fat shaming and bullying. So the same should be said about comments like Demi’s as well if you reverse the terms used in the exact same scenario. It’s still wrong. Plus, people are skinny for all sorts of reasons and it’s not your business what someone’s weight is. Just because someone is thin doesn’t mean they are immune to hurtful comments.

Taylor is a person young girls and many other look up to. She is a role model. Now that she has made up a squad full of all these skinny and tall people, she is setting up an example that a "perfect squad" must have tall and skinny people. Just like her squad (as we can see non of the girls are thick or short). Demi mentioned that 'words can be interpreted wrong during interviews", By saying all those girls are not normal ( she knows they are), she is meaning that the squad is not normal or realistic. A squad does not need to hve what society calls perfect women; tall and skinny. A squad can have different range of sizes. It just comes naturally through true friendship. Does not have to be picked out like Taylor's. This is just how I see it, and maybe what Demi was trying to say. She didn't not shame any body type. But nobody praises her when she advocates for mental health awareness ALL the time, even holding workshops on tour. I used to admire Taylor Swift for being totally against bullying. But now, I feel like she is like the lead cheerleader with her squad. Her songs used to be so sweet like fifteen or love story.
