+iloverock718 I guess that most of the audience doesn't know who she is. Taylor's public is really young, and most of them don't have that 90s thing in their veins. The same happened with Beck... or Lisa Kudrow, lot of people were like "who is that old hippie lady"? But I guess it's ok, those guests weren't for young audiences at all. Or at least not for teenagers that are only into post 2000 music.

Her music is still relevant today, if only the young ones would take the time to listen to it. I may have gotten a little carried away when I saw people just standing there! hahahaha. There is plenty of great music from the 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, 00''s and it will go on and on...we hope. All those decades have plenty to offer in what is really modern music. (Oh, sorry, but I don't think the 90's really tops the three prior decades for a depth of material, song writing, and variety. Another great decade, but not as great. Alanis wasn't the only "song queen of the 1990's. What about No Doubt, with Gwen Stefani? But she is great, and this is truly the grittiest and explicit breakup song ever. Fit for a "banned in Boston" prize. If I really think about it, there are others with the same amount of angst, just presented slightly more subtlety. In the category of really hanging out the dirty laundry for all to see and know exactly who the participants are has to go to the band No Doubt and "Don't Speak". Frankly, doing that song, in real time, with the band and the other band member you were in love with takes guts. Others, such as Carly Simon's, "You're So Vain" are almost as direct, and express plenty of anger, just a bit less dramatically. "Dreams" written by Stevie Nicks, is another real time jab at Lindsey Buckingham. Her message is basically, you're going to miss me you dirty bastard. For portrayed emotional grief, it would be hard to beat "Piece of My Heart" by Janis Joplin".

'Hey mom, which one was Alanis Morissette again ?' 'Ask your father' 'Er, I think she's Canadian ?' How quickly the music world moves on. That said, kudos to Ms Swift for acknowledging the fact that Alanis went from pre-packaged teen starlet to angst-ridden young woman in the space of a single album and never looked back. As soon as the industry can get an artist into a box they can sell, that's usually all she wrote - Britney and countless others found that out the hard way. Taylor, Pink and Lana Del Ray all seem to be in a position where they can tell their record companies 'Hey, this is where I'm going, like it or lump it' and I suspect that Alanis' success was a big part of that shift.

Taylor Swift is way too pop to be raw and honest like Alanis. It's like apples and oranges. Taylor has to remain Pop. And Pop is not as raw and personal. It's rated G.

The fact that their are girls in the audience NOT singing along at the top of their lungs is mine blowing and showing how young they are! You're welcome for Taylor introducing you to a LEGEND!

5:13 I saw Alanis morissette for the first time in her second album tour in 99 in my little hometown mid Central Washington and this is healing me so much listening to this right now my son who is 13 his loved your music since we listen to reputation when it came out Taylor Swift and I just love how real and honest everybody's learning to be 🎉❤

I find it funny that Young Taylor can't match the energy of old Alanis. And I'm not talking about the voice.

Way before Alanis, the 80’s gave us SINEAD O’CONNOR, displaying words of empowerment in the female gender. Alanis learned from Sinead and Taylor from Alanis

Alanis is one of my favorites and Taylor Swift invited her up on the stage and sang “You Oughta Know” at the Staples Center in Los Angeles back in 2015.

Alanis is the greatest female rock voice of all time. This mic job is suspect. Perhaps they were afraid that she might upstage Taylor.

Alanis is freakin awesome but Taylor ruined it~~
@infiniteworlds54 жыл бұрын
Why? Why did she ruin it? HOW did she 'ruin it'? You can listen to the song online or on you CD anytime, why are you here listening to a live, echoey version, if not to see Taylor at her own concert, inviting guests?

Taylor Swift is just a product of marketing and the huge wallet that her family has. She has no business in rock music, she is not writing her name in history as Alanis Morissette . #stopbs
@Dingdongbingaling2 жыл бұрын
You know nothing about her achievements then. She started writing songs for record labels aged 11. That was a product of her talent, not anybody's money. Stop your BS and try Google, educate yourself.

This exemplifies why even though I genuinely like Taylor Swift, I consider her to be just kind of a manufactured pop tart along the lines of a Britney. The whole performative angry face during the song, like it screams Disney acting 101: "This is my angry face so you know I'm ANGRY in this song!" And then the whole "oh my tee hee naughty!" reaction at the word 'fuck'. The woman was 26 when this was filmed. Let's get a grip, girl.
@infiniteworlds54 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you are just that type of person who has decided to 'hate', so nothing Taylor ever does will get through to you. You've decided to dislike her because of a couple shallow, random things, and now you think that's all she is. Sad.
@infiniteworlds54 жыл бұрын
You know that billions of people judge her for every little thing she does? And for a long time, everyone forced her into this sweet little 'good girl' image. When she finally stepped out and tried to break the mold, there was a ton of backlash about it. Trust me, Taylor says fuck. She just has an image to uphold, or all the grannies of the world will come after her.

I love Alanis Morissette, and certainly have a lot of respect for Taylor Swift, as well. I understand why so many people relish the "good old days" when we had "real music" to listen to, and why they automatically dismiss contemporary music: every generation thinks their stuff was the best and everything else is incomprehensible garbage. As a nearly 60 year old human I feel confident saying that there is a universe FILLED with good music being created today. (King Princess, Ben Howard, The Cinematic Orchestra, Warpaint, Tash Sultana, Wookiefoot, Billie Eilish, Khalid, Alicia Keys, Agnes Obel, The Highwomen, Nelly Furtado, Perpetual Groove, Sarah Jarosz, Rhiannon Giddens, Bonobo, Paula Cole, Woodkid ... the list is endless!) The oldsters need to open their minds and then open their ears and take a trip around the planet. There is sooooo much to explore! Commercial radio sucks, yes. Tune into something good then, and lay back and enjoy the ride!

It’s so nice to see someone appreciate our music when they didn’t grow up with it. I’m Gen-Z, but I love 1970s-1990s music, but it also love today’s music too (see: Taylor Swift), so it kinda hurts when I see people from other generations hate on our music, when I really respect theirs. They don’t have to like it but at least be respectful. It makes me happy so see someone appreciate it.

To all the B*atc*s out there,.. trying to say "Alanis is the sh*".. Taylor should step aside. and new music is trash/junk [not untrue, but not true either.. you just have to filter, like in every period of time]... ARE WE ALLOWED to like BOTH Taylor AND Alanis?... who are both incredible song-lyrics writers ?! One is country-pop.. one is rock (and WAS mainstream too for the beginning years). So to sum up : let's bow to two amazing exemples of 'genius-ladies' (one generation separating them).Love, peace and respect (and music) [From France]
