The line "you are what you did" hits even harder with the context that she wrote a song when she was 19 called Innocent that was forgiving Kanye West for interrupting her VMA acceptance speech and one of the lines is, "Who you are is not what you did." Clearly age, wisdom, and experience has taught her that people's actions actually do speak to their character.

To sell you the story of “paradise” this guy love bombed her for years, promised her everything she dreamt about and that was lacking in her 6 year relationship. She risked her reputation for him, got hate because of him, but still chose to be with him and he treated her like an alsoran, like nothing but a trophy. He is the definition of the smallest man who ever lived!

She had been dating Joe for 6 years and Matty kept flirting and trying to get her (it seems - with other songs on this album). Once he got her, he didn’t care anymore. Never broke up with her… just ghosted and sent her a message publicly on stage at one of his shows. The whole album tells the full story better than each song. Guilty as sin. Loml. My boy only breaks his favorite toy.

Direct quote from Taylor Swift- “people go on and on about, like, you have to forgive and forget to move past something. No, you don’t. You don’t have to forgive and you don’t have to forget to move on. You can move on without any of those things happening. You just become indifferent, and then you move on.” I like that viewpoint 😅

Matt healy pursued her for 10 years. When he caught her, he ghosted her and claimed it was never that serious. The live performance of this is amazing. The good riddance to him was because it wasnt sexy TO HIM when wanting or having her was no longer forbidden (eg, she was available after T broke up with Joe.)
@mylittlepeonies8693

I think it could’ve been not sexy to her anymore as well. The possibility of being with the guy who she had something going on with so long ago who was promising her the world was deeply thrilling to her when she was stuck in that dull relationship but I’m sure actually being with him didn’t live up to her fantasies either😂 I mean she was already calling him out on his pretentious bs with the “we’re not some poets, we’re idiots” and the “oops, not even I can fix that mess of a man” but she definitely would’ve stuck it out for longer cuz she’s a sucker for punishment

I read a comment on another reaction of this song ages ago that I can't get out of my head. It was talking about the concept in the bridge with the spy talk and de-classifying and said "It's like she's saying 'you hurt me so bad it had to be calculated'." Blew my mind then and still does whenever I think about it.

Not measuring up in any measure of a man could also be an insult to his manhood (that's where my mind goes *laughing*), but also could be more subtle as to what constitutes a man in her mind. I won't presume there, but for me it's honesty, responsible, protective, confident, strong (not physically, but mentally, fortitude).

Matty and Taylor met back around 2014 and due to relationships and his drug issues never got together, but they kept in touch and there was always that romantic tension. If you’ve listened to Guilty as Sin, that’s about her thinking of him while still in a relationship with Joe Alwyn. That’s the sort of thing that led to the ‘It wasn’t sexy once it wasn’t forbidden’ line. He kept pursuing her when she was involved, then when she finally tried to date him, he love bombed her with talk of marriage and babies, then ghosted her. He lost interest once she was available and it wasn’t ‘forbidden’.

I interpret “I’ll forget you but I’ll never forgive” as the memory of him and their situationship will fade but the pain he caused affected her greatly and will stay with her for a while. Love bombing is no joke, especially, when it’s done while a person is susceptible to it, like Taylor was at that moment.

After over 10 years on "knowing" each other, they spent only a "fortnight" together, after her breakup with Joe Alwyn. At first they were too young, he was just getting his career started. She was with Alwyn for 6 years, so she was forbidden to him. At the first signs of trouble from the media, and Taylor's fans, who focused their criticism in him, and on Taylor for being with him. He pannicked, and ghosted her, then he denied there was a them. A coward, and the smallest man... Listen to the song, "But Daddy I Love Him" lyrics for Taylor's feelings about others weighing in on her private life and her choices. Daddy = her critical fans and the Media.

Hello! Great reaction! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 The part "Cause it wasn't sexy once it wasn't forbidden" is a nod to the fact the Matty and Taylor had a crush on each other for about 10 years before they actually dated last year for a really short time. But they never dated before (at least publicly) because they were always in different phases of their lives or because one of them were dating other people. It's like they were always wanting to be together but life was getting in the way. But they never really stopped talking or liking each other. They wrote songs to each other in secret (that she made public now, after disclosing a looooot of information through the lyrics of TTPD) and he was always talking about her in interviews and kinda letting people know that he liked her but couldn't handle her level of fame, and also he was battling his drug addiction. So in a sense their relationship was forbidden for about 10 years. But last year when her 6 year relationship ended and he was sober, they finally dated. But it didn't last. Ahhh, Taylor's song Peter from TTPD is about this 10 year waiting period and the sad ending.
@Emma_kj3nj
@Emma_kj3nj Ай бұрын
I basically agree with you, but Taylor said she chose to be smart (or safe?). Although there was an attraction and I believe whenever he saw her, Matty was love bombing her and telling her she was the love of his life, Taylor always chose to be safe and smart and per the song Peter, though in the back of her mind, she thought maybe one day he'd grow up and they would end up together. I don't think there was any time in that decade that she would have agreed to actually be with Matty, until Joe didn't marry her, and she felt that relationship wasn't working so she ended it and was in a very vulnerable place. I think she was very much in love with Joe and did want to marry him, but when she finally had to throw in the towel on that relationship, she decided to finally go for it with Matty, believing he really loved her. You can have feelings for more than one person and the attraction and feelings be very different.

self harm, love bombing, manic episode has nothing to do with love. beside, This is just TS telling the storie she wants, not nesseserry the truth (may be the way she saw it, but that is not equal to the truth) Also if it is how she see it, she did her last boyfriend wrong. I think the idea of forgetting and not forgiving can be a good thing. Like forgotting the person and move on but if they came into your life again begging to be let back in, you need to know you didn’t forgive to them to get to do the same thing again. So, the line “It wasn’t sexy once it wasn’t forbidden”, in my opinion, also ties into the song “Guilty as Sin”. Guilty as Sin is about her having sexual thoughts about Matty Healy while she was still in a relationship with Joe. Not that she ever cheated, but Joe was pretty much checked out of the relationship and her mind was wandering to Matty Healy. So, “it wasn’t sexy once it wasn’t forbidden” is a nod to what she was feeling at the time versus when they actually got together.

This song is really heavy… I am obviously a big Taylor’s fan otherwise I wouldn’t be here 😅 I like The 1975 and watched the very good interview from Matty on Apple Music. He’s painted as a really bad guy here where I believe what he said. He will struggle with addiction all his life. Just imagine the weight of this huge media exposure on his mental health. Some of the Swifiies went directly for the jugular once their relationship was public. Further describe in “But Daddy I love him” by Taylor. This song is just a cathartic way to process her emotions, her feelings of betrayal. He doesn’t deserve any hate, he just happened to be a very talented but unstable person she felt for. We are all humans

@Emma_kj3nj Ай бұрын
You have a really good heart. I agree the song is a cathartic way to process her emotions and feelings of betrayal. I'm not so sure he doesn't deserve hate. As a woman, I think it's unforgiveable that he told her "about a million times" that she was the love of his life, talked marriage and babies, but then degraded and disrespected her (hung me on the wall and stuck me with his pushpins) but then ghosted her without even breaking up with her. He had been telling their friend he'd die if she ended things? but then acted like this? That's such toxic masculine behavior. He knew what he was doing. He knew he was manipulating her feelings. I think he was obsessed with Taylor, but he couldn't handle the whole situation. I personally think he couldn't handle Taylor's brilliance or talent or direct communication either. You can change your mind about someone, or not be able to handle the hate from the Swifties and media, or not be able to handle the fame, but treat people with respect. He should have been honest with her. He flirted outrageously with her for a decade. He was sending her albums and communicating with Taylor when she was still living with Joe. I think she was mostly already out of love with Joe, but Matty knew she was with someone else. He shouldn't have been contacting her. He love bombed her for so long and then degraded her when they were together and just left all his stuff (typewriter, suit, stuff in her drawers) and flew off, never to speak to her again and just ghosted her. So much worse than a 27 second phone call (Joe Jonas). He'd already left. The least he could have done is picked up the phone and told her the truth. That it was over, he couldn't handle it and nothing she could say would change his mind. He was introducing the band’s 2016 hit “Somebody Else” during an October 2023 concert when he explained “You don’t really get what our love was like. That was special love - that was a special thing.” Matty, 35, then seemed to speak about himself, saying, “Don’t be stupid, get over it.” It does sound like that was about Taylor. His fans say he spoke about her in concerts a lot over the years. I do think he had genuine feelings but with everything that went down with the toxic Swifties and the constant cameras, etc, he couldn't handle it.

There's just no freaking way she would've ever hooked up with Fez like she did in the last season of the show. Nor would she have given Kelso another chance. He kept cheating on her throughout their entire relationship. I saw a clip of her and him together for the new show since in real life Mila and Kutcher are a real life couple. Hyde and Jackie were perfect for each other. Both helped each other out, to grow and mature together. They balanced each other out quite nicely. In fact, they were the much better couple than Donna and Eric. I didn't like him whatsoever. Donna deserved better than Eric. Oh good lord, Izzy. No, they aren't crazy thoughts at all. Honestly, I viewed her list of "paranoia" options as so normal. When I was dating in my 20's, my friends and I would always want to know the Why??? Why did he act this way, Why did he treat me this way, Why did he leave, etc. etc. I view that as very common for women to do. I thought Taylor was just basically using hyperbolic phrases to emphasize the emotions that she felt - how distraught and confused and broken and then very, very angry she was at being treated this way. If you listen to her TTPD song 'Guilty as Sin', Matty was actively flirting with her, sending her albums, and love bombing her and looking at what both have said over time, I think he was doing that since he met her a decade prior. I think he made a lot of promises, told her she was the 'love of his life' and implied or specifically talked marriage and children. His fans have said he talked about her during his concerts many times over the years. She wouldn't ever be with him, and then when she ended her relationship with Joe, she decided to try it with Matty believing he meant the things he'd said but he treated her so badly when she finally decided to date him. 'Good Riddance' applies to both the lyrics prior to and after that phrase. She says: "I'll say 'Good Riddance' " in response to his confession of 'why he did it' (what he did: he hung her on a wall and stabbed her with push pins (treated her like trash/"an also ran" when they were alone), then told her she'd be better off without him, and left NYC apparently saying he'd be back but instead completely ghosted her and wouldn't return her calls & the messages she left him) when the truth is declassified in 50 years (I think she's referring to cases like the facts of President Kennedy's assassination that have been classified and hidden from the public for 50 years). So bottom line, when/if she eventually learns why he love bombed her, then treated her as an 'also ran', and then left and ghosted her, she won't care, she doesn't want him back, and she'll say: "Good Riddance", BUT she just wants to know the WHY. But she's also saying: "Good Riddance" because "when it wasn't forbidden, it wasn't sexy". She's referring to his portrayal of feelings, not herself. He wanted her for years and flirted outrageously with her for years, but then when they were finally together, he was passed out or criticizing/degrading her and treating her like it wasn't sexy to be with her. He always said in interviews he couldn't handle her level of fame, and he's struggled to handle his own level of fame. I think once they were together, he just couldn't handle her brilliance/talent/fame/popularity and was so intimidated by her that he degraded her to make himself feel superior. Many of her boyfriends have treated her that way because her brilliance and talent intimidated them. It is important to note that a subset of Swifties were OUTRAGED that she was dating him and even went so far as posting a letter in the newspaper condemning her & demanding they have a say in her personal decisions. This likely had an impact on Matty's psyche and actions as well. As @alexagolden9172 and others say below, there are pieces of their story sprinkled throughout TTPD.

Matty H. spent years (since about 2014) telling her she was the love of his life ( she had feelings for him as well but was in other relationships), even wrote songs about her, trying to get her. He then loved bombed the shit out of her promising her they would get married and have babies and finally be together when she was leaving her other useless ex of 6 years, and when they eventually went public together that they were in a relationship, he then just dissapeared and ghosted her, and even making awful comments about her and making fun at the situation at his concerts. So this has a long history and that is why she is asking, what was your angle, why did you do all this to me.

I'm really enjoying your point of view on these reacts, but could I just make a suggestion? Your mic pics up every single time you swallow, and for some reason it drives me crazy. I think you might just have a mic that's to good to pick up sounds :P

Yeah, I'm working on that. I think it has a lot to do with the mic positioning, but it took me a while to figure that out. Hoping to improve it in the future. Glad you enjoy the reactions, Poppy. Thanks!

Everyone say, its all about matty, but they where not toghetet long enogf for most of it - to me it seems Taylor all made it up in her mind, she made matty up - he is nothing what she think he was. Its just strange why so many think anything they "had" for 6 weeks & the contact when she was in another long term relationshi - matty & Tayler was never love, like she said, it was self harm & manic episode

I'm surprised people think this is about Matt Healey. I don't think it is. It's about Scott Borchetta and the masters heist. When Taylor says "I just want to know if rusting my sparkling summer was the goal" she is talking about the summer when she was about to release Lover and it all got ruined by Scott Borchetta selling her masters to one of the sleaziest douchebags in the music industry. Come on guys! Whenever she perfoms this songs there's a marching band like the one in the video of her single ME! (from Lover) And the band is shot while on stage. By the end of the song even Taylor is shot and dies. Because that is metaphorically speaking what Borchetta did to her. He crashed her party (the release of her new album which was sparkly and pink and happy) and killed it. And also? Borcheta did crash a car in 2023. She's mocking Borchetta about it. Have you guys ever seen the suits Borchetta wore to the award shows? Jehovah's witness like. "You hung me on your wall, stabbed me with your push pins" Scott had his office full of all the platinums Taylor had managed to get the label. Showed her off. But when the time came he treated his queen, the person that made him loads of money, the most important artist in his label, he treated her like fucking crap by betraying her and selling her work to one of her enemies. It frustrates me when people only attribute her songs to be about whoever she happens to be dating at the moment. Taylor uses what most people asume is romantic language on the song but when you add up Scott Borchetta literally crashing his rental car in 2023 and the marching band from the ME music video being shot at on stage it's just... There's no way this son is about Matt Healey, I'm sorry. I think people sometimes give too much credit to the guys she's going out with. Taylor is a brilliant lyricist and I think she's now used to the idea that people will always try to attribute each song to one of her boyfriends. She made a whole speech about this on the prologue of her Reputation album, saying that people would take guesses and tey would always be wrong. Because she can talk about so many other things while using romantic metaphors that people will eat up and take in the most literal way to draw a connection with her present or past partners. fsss

Her Choreo on tour directly copies choreography for Matty Healy's performance. This is NOT ABOUT SCOTT. MATTY ruined her summer at the start of the Eras Tour. JFC some of you really need to stop making everything about Scott and Scooter. They are irrelevant at this point, and have enough songs about them. to all of us that actually know Matty Healy and his band The 1975, it is BLATANTLY OBVIOUS that it's about him.
