I wanted to scream through the screen...He doesn't love her, just keeps her around and TOLERATES her.

This one is very much about her loving this man and he doesn’t match her love. She adores him and he just puts up with her like an inconvenience. It doesn’t matter how hard she tries, he is still stepping out (she sings about his “indiscretions”).

Check out this song in her Eras tour! It’s a whole skit and it’s amazing! You’re right that she’s giving all her love and all he does is tolerate her. She knows her love should be celebrated and realizes maybe she’s gonna have to break free from this unhealthy relationship.

When you tolerate something, you put up with it, but you're not that excited about it. "Do you like your mother-in-law?" "Not really, but I tolerate her." So she's saying she is doing everything to make him the most important person, she is loving him with all of her being, and in response he goes, "meh, okay, yea, I'll tolerate your love, but I'm not that into it." This is actually a tragic song. "I'll love you forever, but you barely even know I'm here." Footnotes are tiny notes at the bottom of a book that give a little extra information, but not too much. She is begging for footnotes in the story of his life..."at least give me a tiny mention at the bottom of one page."

She’s doing everything for this man but he’s not appreciating her, he’s just “tolerating” her. Her love should be celebrated, but he just tolerates it. At the end, she flips it and threatens to leave him, leave the relationship in ruins, to take the dagger he put in her back and remove it, to gain the weight of him (carrying the weight of both of them in a relationship) and lose it. Love should be appreciated and celebrated, not just tolerated.

She feels like she’s just being tolerated instead of being loved like she loves him is how I take it

Taylor really does make you think, I think expanding one's mind makes for a well-rounded person.

She was giving her absolute everything to this man for SIX YEARS. I won’t name names…😒 and in return he was just tolerating her and barley giving/paying attention to her.

When she sings this at the Eras Tour, she plays the entire song out as a skit. It's very beautiful. She even tries to hold his hand, and he takes his away.

There are SO MANY SONGS. And your favorites change. Like this one... For a long time, I thought, l will listen to it if it came on, but I probably won't put it on. Now she says so much in this song I love, but mostly... Lay the table with the fancy shit 🍽 And watch you tolerate it 🧎♀️If it's all in my head tell me now Tell me i've got it wrong somehow... I just melt into her. Same for other artists at times but Taylor's bridges, her hooks, her music, knowing where to add an ohh or aww or mmmm her registers of voice & as a performer. She metaphorically tells a story through music and word.💋 You see it all from start to finish and back to the start many times. And you can relate! LOL , YES I'M A SWIFTIE.

She adores her man, she’s giving him everything, she’s being the perfect adoring wife, and he just tolerates (puts up with) it. He’s just putting up with her, not seeing her, not appreciating her, stepping out on her (indiscretions), and she’s saying she knows she’s worthy of being loved, she knows her love and heart should be celebrated. But he’s not celebrating her love. He just tolerates it. 😭😭😭😭💔💔💔💔

Really enjoying your reactions! I’m new to Taylor but have fallen in love with her music. Check out Marjorie too! It’s about her Grandmother who was an Opera singer who was very popular in Puerto Rico. In the song you can hear her grandmother singing opera. Unfortunately, she passed away before Taylor began her career.

"use my best colors for your portrait" could also be that she only looks at, and considers his best traits instead of the red flags that he puts out there. Could be interpreted several ways lol

Ok dude, now everyone else has weighed in, here's the real skinny. Tolerate it was based on a book by author Daphne Du Maurier called Rebecca. She based this song partially on the story. Miss Swift is highly intelligent and very well read. Fairly new subscriber here. Love your reactions!

I agree with those who are saying you should see the Eras Tour movie version of Tolerate It. Alas, there doesn't seem to be a good movie clip available. If you get a chance to simply watch the movie, I highly recommend it. Oddly enough it looks to me like you have not yet reacted to a song that a lot of people consider to be her best. Here is one of several iconic versions of it: All Too Well (Live From The 56th GRAMMYs 2014) kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIKsZ2pmbpekrKs
