Flight cancelled in Roanoke VA. Drove to DC to get on a different flight. DC flight canceled after 3 hour delay. Able to get a connecting flight from DC to NY to ORD. DC flight smooth and fine. NY flight took off and issues mid flight where diverted to DC at ~midnight where told would be a few hours which was 4AM but crew timed out and new crew around 6:30AM and took off to ORD.

Got on a train without confirmed tickets (yes, that's actually a thing in India), later saw my friend using a sleeping person's leg as a pillow. It was wild, we were tired and just stopped caring haha. Okay I could have definitely explained that better, but I gotta stop binge watching your videos and finish my chores!

Many years ago I travelled for IT consulting to a large global industrial company's regional office in Karachi, Pakistan. 2 days after I got there Bin Laden attacked a US Embassy, sadly killing Americans. With "Death to America" and burning of American flags a common theme amongst AK-47 carrying locals, it was touch and go for me on some days travelling to the office. As a white Australian guy who looks just like any American, I can assure you that a change of underpants was required multiple times. One night dozens of cruise missiles flew over my head launched from US Navy warships as they targeted Bin Laden in Afghanistan. We had an armed guard with an AK standing outside our office guarding us the entire time I was there 'just in case', not that it made me feel any safer! Thank god I lived to tell the tale.

I remember my flight was once delayed, then next one was cancelled until next morning so I went to McDonalds (don't judge) and met a guy who turned out to be driving from Berlin airport to our hometown in Szczecin, Poland. Few years later I got a job at the company he was HR director for and we are friends ever since :) and that airport thing happened in 2014 😁

I love your energy and the way you tell these stories! Not a travel day at work but it happen during a trek in mid Himalayas. We, meaning me and my friends, reach there, it's snowing(we were in the lower Himalayas for the start of the trek) nothing unusual....until a few later when we find out that it has been snowing a ton in the mid Himalayas. Turns out our trek organizers had to cancel the entire trek for the season because the snow was 8-10 ft deep!. By this time, our basecamp was full with snow too. Roads were too slippery for cars which meant that we had limited resources and the temperature was too low for water to be liquid. So now we are at the basecamp, stuck with limited food and water for 3 days. But it was the best 3 days of my life. It was amazing. I had never seen so many stars at once and the moonrise was absolutely gorgeous. But, what I loved the most was the disconnect from everything. We were so high in mountains that there were no signals and no electricity. That's when I coined the statement - "being disconnected in this connected world is a luxury". Words to think over, I will leave you now after this long ass comment. Have a good day and looking forward to your next vid. Cheers!

Omg I loooove this story, so very true it is a luxury to be disconnected in this connected world. Those days where we go through adversity turn out to be some of the best. Very similar thing happened to me, I got stuck on a trek in Antarctica for 3 extra days crazy enough. Thanks so much for watching!

I once got stranded at ATL late on a friday night with a cancelled connecting flight to TN and jumped in a rental car at midnight with a complete stranger from the flight that also looked like a business traveler... At first I was a little nervous driving across Georgia with someone I had just met in the middle of the night but he was such a nice guy and we had a great conversation about our careers and future ambitions... as crazy as it was at the time, it's one of my best travel stories to date!

Hi Taylor, I've traveled as a consultant and going from DFW to DIA, 65 trips in 18 months was quite busy and more delays that you can shake a stick at! Crazy - but awesome story. I have been watching your videos for over a year now but had to reach back into your older posts to see this one. I have to say Taylor, it's obvious that you are very intelligent, and I'm sure your business background and client relations have help you develop your skills, but I feel like I must compliment you. Your story telling, and your pace, ( yes I'm sure some of this comes through your edit) they are second to none. I'm sure it also has something to do with the fact that you present as quite an extrovert and are obviously a hard worker, but it's no surprise that you are so very good - an as a result so successful- at what you're doing. Congratulations, I really enjoy your content.

Reminds me of the time I was a tourist in NYC and had travelled 30 minutes to eat at this legendary pizzeria, only to find out that you could only order by the pie, not by the slice. Not wanting to pay for a whole pie I couldn’t eat by myself, I was in a dilemma! But when 2 other tourists my age showed up and asked if I could take their picture out front of the famous restuarant, I asked if they wouldn’t mind me joining in with them for lunch to split a pizza. Once of the coolest and most memorable meals I’ve ever shared :)

Beer-a-clock somewhere 😂😂😂 Looking on the bright side at least the plane didn't crash, so there's that. A trip that immediately springs to mind was an overnighter on the 'skinny dog'. A double decker coach and sitting upstairs I could see the oncoming tractor trailer over the rise which the driver couldn't as we attempted an overtaking manoeuvre - survived but scary as hell lol! Ahhh the not so good 'old days'. Loved the self deprecating humor and facial expressions Turtle err Taylor. You are genuinely entertaining and enjoyed the video muchly.

Here's another crazy travel story. My parents were flying back from New Zealand in Dec 98. The 12 hr flight from NZ to LA was fine, but then they pretty much immediately jumped on another 5 hr flight from LA to IN (I was returning with them too, but I flew on to DC with a head cold that had my head feeling like it was going to burst on the plane). Indy was having a bit of a blizzard they day they are flying in so eventually their plane is in a holding pattern trying to decide if they can land or if they'll have to go to St Louis. They do manage to land, but its the last flight in, and snow plows had to plow a path to get the airplane to the airport. But the fun was only beginning. They had scheduled a car service, but because of the blizzard, they weren't coming out. They eventually manage to get a taxi to take them and some other people home. What would normally take 45 minutes ends up taking hours before they get almost, but not quite, home. The road they live on is unplowed, with a two feet plus of snow and slopes downhill, so the taxi leaves them, and their luggage at the corner of the street since he'll never make it down the street and out. They try, but can't haul their luggage through the snow so they trudge down the street, through the snow, in the blizzard and finally get to their house. They tried to drive their car out, but they can't get it out of the garage as the snow is so high. So eventually they take their big snowblower and cut a path all the way back to the corner, and with one of them driving the snow blower, the other dragging the luggage, they finally make it all the way home. But hey, at least New Zealand was really cool! 🙂

I love this, it’s like an Uber Breakfast Club! I went to Italy for my honeymoon and we took a red eye out of JFK. As soon as I got on the plane, I took a prescription sleeping pill and was passed out by the time boarding had finished. I woke up after two hours and saw we were still on the ground. Apparently the baggage truck crashed into our plane and they couldn’t get the door closed. They couldn’t fix it and ended up having to cancel our flight. I had to get off the plane, rebook our flight and get to a hotel, all while on Ambien. Trying to stay awake through it all was so hard, but my husband was a champ and I learned a valuable lesson that day - don’t take a sleeping pill on a plane until AFTER the plane takes off.

I absolutely loved the whole video! Such a good ending story. Well first let me acknowledge that every US airport has horrible organisation w tsa and all the security checks. Here in Europe at most airports,.not the london and paris though, we never wait more than 10min for security and 10 min for check in, which is why I arrive 80min before departure to my airport max. My American friends hate me for this they are always stressed out when it comes to flying 🙃 !! I really enjoyed how the story unravelled and how you managed to make such an inconvenience into an experience. I always try to make an airport delay into an opportunity for fun! I loved hearing about your business trip that went awry every which way. Getting to bond with people the way you did sounded incredible and once in a lifetime. … Okay, so I was trying to fly from LAX to Sydney, AU on standby. The earlier flight was overbooked, and I was near the bottom of the standby list. The 2nd flight that left at 10pm was also overbooked, but then there were a few seats available, but they got filled at the last moment by travelers from Mexico whose flight arrived late. So we looked at the upcoming flights and could pick anywhere Delta flies, and we picked Tel Aviv. While on our connecting flt from JFK to Tel Aviv I booked an Airbnb that had just dropped their price. It was a charming studio apartment in a residential area near the market (the “shuk”), and just a few train stops from the Western Wall. My vacation was so spontaneous, just the opposite of my personality, making it all so memorable.

One of my best travel stories (similar to yours) was when I went to Ireland for a job interview in Dublin 14 years ago. I actually wanted to go visit a friend who lived about 1h or so north of Dublin in Dundalk. I went there by bus and made the mistake of not checking the bus schedules to come back. I was scheduled to fly out the next day at 9 am from Dublin airport and it turned out the last bus to get back stopped at like 8pm. I was looking for ways to get back and this is pre Uber days and there were no buses or trains until the morning which meant I would have missed my flight. I was walking through this mall next to the bus station and asked the security guard there if he knew of a way to get to Dublin that night and he said there were no transport options until the morning, but he said "you're in luck I'm actually an off duty taxi driver and this is my second gig, I can take you to Dublin if you want" he proceeded to show me his taxi license and said for 80 EUR I could get a ride. At first I was a bit hesitant thinking this could be a scam or a dangerous situation but took the risk I had a really great ride back and great conversations. Really shows you the kindness of strangers and was able to make my flight back. :)

worst travel story was i was flying home (NYC area) for winter break during college. Bad snowstorm hit the area so we circled in the air hoping it would pass. it didnt so we had to land in Norfolk, Va at midnight. All the closest hotels were booked for a college basketball tournament and the nearest ones were an hour away. So instead of driving an hour to a hotel, sleeping for maybe 2 hours, driving an hour back to make it to my rescheduled 6am flight the next morning..I slept in the starbucks in the airport with a few other college aged kids. Cute girl looked at me and said "you're my travel buddy" and i just said ok lmao. We watched a movie on my laptop in starbucks together and she introduced me to the morningbrew newsletter which i read daily still. Maybe she'll see this lol

First of all, love your videos! Graduated from Wharton before you started, so your references to Penn and Philly make me nostalgic too. So this wasn't nearly as bad as your travel day, but before the WIP trip to Australia in May '12, we were supposed to fly from Philly to Dallas to LA to Melbourne; the Philly and Dallas flights were delayed, so we would have missed the long-haul flight. Instead, the program directors worked some magic and we took a bus from Philly Airport to JFK! Much smoother travel day besides that hiccup (and the looooong flight to Australia - I'm an aisle person and got stuck in a window seat, oof). Love travel but could never pull off the consulting lifestyle - kudos to you, and excited to follow your journey!

Wow! What a funny story. That reminds me of something that happened to my mom years back. It was around Christmas and she was desperately trying to get back home to Chicago. She got stuck in an airport and all of the flights were full or delayed or whatever. She was pleading with an airline employee when a very nice man approached her. He was part of a band that also had gotten stranded, and they had rented a van to drive to Milwaukee. They offered to stop in Chicago and drop her off! She couldn't believe it! The whole way they just talked and the band played some songs. Anyways, she made it home just in time for Chrismas to see me. My parents had accidentally forgotten me at home while we were heading to Paris for vacation.

Had a flight out of SLC back to SBA and a hour into the flight the captain said there has been an issue and we need to return to SLC. Got back to SLC waited an hour and half to board the new plane and then they had to de-ice the plane, finally got back to SBA super late. Two girls kissed the tarmac after landing since they were so happy to be home.

Props to you battling though the Night. Would have gotten a hotel and then taken the Acela the next day. Had a similar day back in 2000s flying back to Vanderbilt when I was getting my MBA. Was stuck in Atlanta and rented a car with three other Vandy peeps trying to make it to Nashville and beat the snow storm that was coming. It was a similar amazing time. We are still friends to this day! Great share!

Hey Taylor! I have been reallllly fascinated recently by the idea of what itd be like to work as a consultant, and have learned a lot from your channel. Also, would have to say my wildest travel experience sounds very much like the one you shared. Long story short, had been planning to go out of state for an Aunts memorial service, then very inconveniently finding out a few minutes before boarding, and after a flight delay of about 3 hours, that the flight had been cancelled. (why? well I think we were too fed up by that point for this to matter) Looking back I kinda wish I had the coping skills you seem to have then lol

My craziest travel story: I was leaving Burlington Vermont on the last plane out for the weekend, on a Friday night. The flight got canceled 20 mins before boarding because no flight attendants showed up, and they had no back ups. So, took a cab with a few other fliers to Plattsburgh New York, stayed in a hotel Friday night, and took a 6 am flight home to Washington DC. Also, one of the ladies in the cab had to get dropped at the Canadian border, so that was about an hour and a half detour. Wild!! Thankfully made it home in one piece.

Omg!! Very similar to my story! Hopefully the airline at least reimbursed since it was a crew shortage issue. Glad you got home in one piece!

In year 1 of our marriage, I was offered a job in a different state, so my wife and I took turns visiting each other every 2-3 weeks. I always flew Southwest, because it was cheap, and I could take the last flight home (~9pm arrival) so I could spend as much time as possible with my wife. Unfortunately, for the third trip in a row, my flight was delayed by 2 hours. This wasn't too bad by itself, but SJC essentially shuts down after 10pm and this was pre-Uber/Lyft. Normally, I would just have a friend pick me up, but I didn't want to do that to someone at midnight on a Sunday, so I ordered a Super Shuttle...and this is where it gets fun....It took me 30 minutes to find the correct shuttle, because they weren't parked in their designated location. Driver says we're waiting for a couple more passengers, so we wait...and wait...and wait. All of the sudden he jumps in the car (no new passengers) and we're speeding off. I think I'm finally going home (which is just 25 minutes away), but nope, we're headed to the airport gas station because he forgot to check the tank. He's about to start filling up, but his card gets declined, so he asks to use my credit card (WTF???). I said no, so we wait another 15 minutes for his co-worker to show up to pay for gas, then speed back to the terminal to pick up another passenger. She's a student at SJSU, so it shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to get to the other side of the freeway. Cut to 40 minutes later we finally drop her off at her dorm, and I finally get home a little after 2am. To make matters worse, I have to be at work at 6am, and my car won't start because it's been idle for a week...and this all happened on April Fool's Day 😐

I wouldn't say it's too crazy but more inconvenient. When I was travelling to Europe 5 years ago I originally was meant to go from Sydney Airport (Australia) to Dohar and then to Zagreb (Croatia), ended up having multiple flight delays and refunds offered. In the end of it I ended up going from Sydeny Airport to Queensland Airport (Also in Australia) then had to stay a night there (got no sleep had a group of party go'ers next door in the hotel, which hotel staff didn't stop) Then the next day came and I flew from Queensland back to Sydeny and then to Dohar and then to Zagreb. I ended up not sleeping for like 2 days and slept for around 24hrs once getting to my apartment in a town in Croatia which was a futhur 5 hours on a bus from Zagreb. So annoying to say the least but 100% worth it in the end.

Hey Taylor. Had to give this a lot of thought but I have to say that I never really ever had any true " days from hell" while on a business trip. To be honest most of my trips were pretty damn awesome! However, I did have a day from hell when I was coming home from vacay once. After a nice long weekend in Miami, my flight was delayed for several hours due to bad weather. No big deal right? Gets better. Then the flight back to Newark gets caught in bad weather. Thanks to all the turbulence, some of the passengers starting getting ill. Things got so bad that the flight had to be diverted to Philly. Waited on the plane for a hour and half before finally leaving and landing in Newark. What should have been a 3.5 trip turned into an 11 hour odyssey!😀😀😀😀😀😀

Not sure why the algorithm popped this up for me, but I like it. Anyway my story starts as a family vacation flight back to Philly, my wife is from there. We live in Montana now. So we are waiting to board the plane, early morning. But, the plane is broken and needs parts that have to be flown in from somewhere else and fixed. So we wait. So I call the car rental people in Philly to tell them we will be delayed. They say, what car rental? Keep in mind my sister and her family were also traveling to Philly on a different flight so they were already on their way at this point and I was the one with the van rented. Anyway, the car rental place says "we can't help you, bye". So I go to the car rental stands at our airport and randomly pick one and tell them my story. They take pity on a fellow Montanan and hook me up, far more than I realize at the point. So we wait and wait and wait, with a 8 year old and a 12 year old, who were doing great. We wait some more. Finally at 3 PM, mind you this started at 6 AM. We get on the plane. We wait on the plane. Finally like at 3:45 PM we hit the air. It is a 2 1/2 hour flight to Minneapolis. We get there and guess what there are no more flights to Philly that day. And it is late. But they put us on the earliest flight in the morning 5:45 AM. So we spend the night in MSP. We ended up sleeping on the benches of some bar. We did not know about the transit area. So we get to Philly FINALLY around noon. Go to the car rental place and they are treating us like royalty. It was weird. We got this top of the line van with all the gadgets. As we were driving away my wife looked at the paperwork and the guys in Montana had put us under a major corporation as executives. So we got treated real nice. We had rented a house down a the Jersy shore and it was a wonderful vacation with lots of great memories and everytime we fly through MSP we remember romping around that airport at 3 AM chasing the mice with the kids.

Okay, my travel "day" from hell was to go see our mutual alma mater lose to Kansas in the first round of March Madness in 2018. Last time Penn made the tourney was my freshman year and I had a physics midterm during the game, so I wasn't breaking free of Philly for that, and I was in my last semester of business school so I figured this would really be my only shot to go see Penn play in March Madness. Got tickets through the Penn Athletics ticket lottery, booked my flight and hotel, and figured I was good. Had our a client meeting for our capstone consulting project (I was team lead) in Harlem a few hours before my flight, after which I was planning to head straight to LaGuardia. The game was in Wichita, which only has flights to/from hubs (and NY wasn't one of them), so I was flying there on American via Dallas...but my plane got delayed for a maintenance issue which would have made me miss my connection, so I would have been stuck in Dallas overnight and may not have made the 12:00 game the next day if there were any issues in the morning, so I needed to rebook. Only options American could give me were to get to Tulsa, Kansas City, or Manhattan (the Kansas one, not the one I was in at the time...). Took the KC option, since that would give me the shortest drive, but it also meant I had to get to the airport like an hour earlier so I had to politely excuse myself from my meeting, leave the rest of my team to finish what they were working on, and hail a cab on 125th Street while simultaneously on the phone booking my rental car in KC (eventually had to get an Uber instead). So I rush to LGA to fly to Charlotte, then on to KC, where I had to pick up my rental car at 11PM and drive 3 hours to get to my hotel in Wichita. Dinner at the Charlotte Airport Chick Fil-A was the absolute highlight of the day. Got a few hours of sleep when I got to my hotel, went to the game at noon (hey, we were competitive for a good bit of the first half!), got a nice steak for dinner, and went back to my hotel to catch a nap before heading to the airport for my super early flight the next morning (I literally got there before TSA opened). Fortunately got home without any further incident, but I really should have expected some crazy shenanigans with the game being on the Ides of March...

There’s Wawa in Florida too and I live off it when visiting my parents in the winter lol. Craziest travel story: we get on the plane in Dallas and everything shuts off, they say they’re just going to ‘swap out’ the computer (what…?) replacement computer fails too so we got a free extra night in Dallas which was fine by us but a lot of people were pissed. Also had to be diverted from NYC before due to weather. We went back to Minneapolis for the night and then 5 AM (ugh) wake up next day to try again.

When I travelled from the us to Peru we had to layover in dallas. The plane was leaking oil and then we had to spend the night as there was no plane available. The next morning we were told we could fly either through Los Angeles to Peru or through Miami. Eventually we went to Miami but were told the flight to Peru was full. Luckily there were still spots available after many hours of discussing but the trip took like 45 hours in total. Also love your personality you seem like such a fun person!
