For several years I stayed behind a camera to avoid interacting with others at whatever event I was shooting, usually concerts. As an introvert I thought if I pretend to always be adjusting my settings to look busy then nobody would really bother me. Fast forward to a photography job in the Fl Keys that went really sour I found myself in a life altering crash course of learning to be a food server or to be homeless. 4 years later I have no issues at all talking to strangers and a wedding planner recently told me that , based on what she has seen of my work, that she would " hire me in a heartbeat as a wedding photographer". So I strongly agree for young people, especially if your an introvert, to branch out and try a job that will develop social skills. It was really difficult at first but I'm glad I stuck with it. Thanks for all these videos you do!

As somebody just trying to take my photography to the next level and eventually become pro, it's cool to watch you change settings on the fly so quickly and accurately for a given situation, while talking to them. So natural.

YES to the comment about having server experience. I noticed that I was definitely more comfortable and confident as a photographer AFTER having server and bartender experience, than I was before. People skills, customer service, having the smiling face and friendly demeanor- all of it has helped me tremendously in photography, and I believe also helps with really any other career as well.

Lol dude your videos came at the right time tbh. I am a wedding videographer, but my cousin asked me to shoot photos. I have only done photos maybe twice for weddings, and I vowed never again. But I needed the money and she begged me to do it. The entire walkthrough of how you do weddings just came me a ton of confidence. I do photography on my own all the time, I just don't like doing them for weddings cuz the pressure is wayyy more than video in my opinion. Thanks for this, honestly.

Hi Taylor. When you are shooting large group photos with multiple rows of people and focal planes, where do you put your focus point? Do you put the focus point on the eye of the bride/groom or between the rows? I struggle with getting everyone in focus even if I bump up my aperture. Thank you so much!
@ArnoldMontes
@ArnoldMontes 5 жыл бұрын
You put it on the groom. but the key is and if you notice in this video, he puts that at the same level. If one of them is behind or forward they will not be in focus

It also helps to shoot very wide, and be closer to the group. As close as you can get. There won’t be as much compression. That’s why I love my 24-70. Wide, but can access the compression if I want too

Love your style and storytelling! Great work! Loved watching a behind the camera during the wedding, and watching your editing workflow. Lots of helpful tips and things to consider. I also go back and forth between what I like to capture, what the client might like, what I should post on social media and on my site. Because of that, I sometimes wonder if I deliver too many images to my client. I noticed you had approximately 90 in the folder you were editing. How many images do you typically deliver to a wedding client? Thanks!

Again, great series! Love the editing section too. Couple questions for the editing side: 1. If an image requires Photoshop work, do you do it then and there? Or do you continue with the LR work on all images then go back to do the PS parts all together? 2. You don't seem too worried about sticking to a constant crop aspect ratio. Do you just crop as you see fit for each image then?

Love the videos Taylor. Would really like to know how you are some comfortable shooting at F2.8 or lower for most of the wedding but never have DOF issues. Images seem razor sharp every time while I often run into DOF issues or have softer images even when my focus point is right over the subjects face or eye. Do you use Auto ISO also? I doubt you do. Cheers Kev (big fan)
@matthoffman6962
@matthoffman6962 5 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure there might be DOF issues where only certain people will be in focus. The only time where you don't have to worry about that is if they are on the exact same level "plane". If people are stacked or scattered if you're not shooting at F5.6 or F6.3 you're going to have not everyone in focus.

Loving your walkthrough vids Taylor. Really puts me at ease seeing the behind the scenes action on the wedding day. Just curious how you've set up your focus system. Loved the Nikon 3-D tracking but on a Canon it's just really difficult to focus on any moving objects coming towards the camera. It's my biggest annoyance on the day when trying to photograph and procession worried how the focusing is going to act.

When you do video, all you do is switch to video on your main body or do you also have separate equipment? What would think about shooting a wedding with 2/3 gopros with gimbal and then use 2/3 zoom h1n’s since GoPro has horrible audio.

Just kind of curious but, have you ever shot the formal family photos on a 35 or 50? I'm just wondering why you choose the 85 almost exclusively for that, it looks good but really 'far away' or kindof detached I guess for me. Not a criticism, they look good just very much in that telephoto way, just wondering why you prefer that.
