@@Kazyman and that is because the formula, although helpful, only takes one element into account. The most important factor is the distance from where you can hit the green in regulation. Everyone should be playing form the distance that gives them a chance to hit the green in regulation. On par fours, figure out your typical drive off the tee. How far does that leave you from the green? If you can’t get to the green in regulation from there, you should not be playing from that tee box.

My club has also changed the naming of the tees (to blue, gold, silver and green shortest to longest). They have also created a scorecard which incorporates all 4 tee boxes and yardages to change things up, which is a cool course making some par 4’s driveable and the par 3’s more of a challenge

I remember back in the late 1990s and early 2000s (pre-Titleist Pro V1) the stir created by the Precept Lady ball (time period is approximate as I am long a seasoned citizen). This particular ball was such a hot ticket item that even a few golf professionals were using it because it was so long, high spinning, and inexpensive. I tried a sleeve and couldn't see any benefit but many players thought this ball was it (whatever "it" is in this context). A short time later Titleist debuted the Pro V1 and the Precept Lady ball shuttled off into the dust bin of golf history.

However, my experience has been that for most casual players, it makes little difference (if any) what ball they play. Better players will start to gravitate to something consistent with their ability and playing style, and the choices are many. In the end, it appears to come down to personal preference. My only disappointment in today's golf ball market is that most brands do not specify the compression (although many Wilson products do). To me, the compression (rate) info is as valuable as the rest of the specs!! Thanks.

Colors you can’t see at a distance are a silly choice for a golf ball. Blue/purple you’ll never see against the sky and then they are too low-contrast with grass and soil to be easily visible on the ground. Reds blend in with both brown and green, especially when looking into the shadow side and they are also hard to see in flight against the sky. There’s a reason Hi-Viz safety vests are neon yellow.

I think you should play tees based off how far you hit the driver in the air, because you should be able to reach par4’s in 2 and par 5’s in 3, if you can’t you should move up. All courses that I play in US have ratings and slope so people can compete ( handicap ) from different tees, although no one I’ve ever played with (I’m 61) has played with a handicap for a social game. Marketing and reality are two very, very different things. Brands market their new clubs every year as being longer and better and we know that's just not the case. Golf equipment is purely based (or should be) on what best fits that particular player, not who or how it's marketed to a certain person or player. Unfortunately I think it's easiest for brands to fall into separating levels of equipment based off of skill level because typically that's how those players fall into the group but it most certainly isn't "men need men's clubs, shafts, balls" and "women need women's equipment." I will swing a club faster than the majority of new golfers, but sex has nothing to do with it. Just the same, there are women that need an x-stiff flex and that's far too stiff for my swing speed as I couldn't properly load/unload that shaft. As far as the golf market goes, if you like it and it performs well for you then USE IT! Who cares what the brand says. I think we all know they'll say all kinds of crazy stuff with big promises to boost interest/sales. As far as a golf balls go, pink is by far the easiest color for the human eye to see (seriously, look it up. Lol) but I think it's also based on performance and what fits that player. More than that though it's what the player is looking for in a golf ball. I play the Tour Response/T.R. Stripe or the TP5 Pix because of it's performance for MY game, not what their marketing team said. There are hundreds of great balls these days, but I prefer the urethane cover (spin) and the feel of those two golf balls. I also know they might be too expensive for some people, especially if they're losing 4 or 5 balls a round. Thankfully I only lose one ball in a round now, and more often than not I'm pulling a ball out of play because of wear after a round or two not because I lost it. When I lost a bunch every round I certainly wasn't using a premium golf ball, more so for the price than performance.

I use Kirkland so I only have the choice of white. But if they decide to do a yellow ball… 👌🏻
