Glad to see a players blended set. This seems so much easier than blending different irons in the same brand. Sometimes it seems when you do this you might need two 7 irons to get the gaps correct. Great review.

So to further how excited I am about these clubs. I got them in today and made a hole in one with the 8iron!! They feel amazing, the turf interaction is fantastic, and perform just how I want! The 4-7ion with the Speedfoam are crazy soft, it’s feels so good I wish the 8-PW had just a little bit in there! I love them and encourage everyone to go give them a try.

So glad you guys did this review because I just ordered a set on Monday. I was really surprised by the feel. It was much softer than my AP2 which I was surprised by because of it being hollow, but speed foam must be doing its job. It was launching fractionally higher with a bit more spin which is what I wanted anyway. At address looked much better than the AP2. I was also happy that the hollow head didn’t produce a really high pitch clicky noise on strike, overall good sound. I’m interested to see how the pre-worn leaning edge helps with turf interaction, it seemed like it did when on the mat. I should get them beginning of next week and can’t wait!! The shaft I got was the Modus 130x and I got it after watching a TXG video and seeing that it should fit me perfectly, so thanks for that. Thanks for giving me some comfort with my purchase lol!

I just hit the P-760 7 iron (w/speed foam) with a Nippon Modus 120 Stiff shaft on the range last week to compare with my current P-770 7 iron with KBS C-Taper Lite 105 Stiff shaft to get a feel for the difference. My P-770 is 1.5 deg stronger in loft compared to the P-760 stock loft. The feel on the P-760 was amazing...very soft. The ball flight was noticeably higher (103 ft avg) with a spin rate ~6,300 rpm. I normally hit my P-770 175 yds and the P-760 was averaging 173 yds with 1.5 deg weaker loft. I had no problems flighting it down into the wind or launching it higher than my stock shot. This club is really really nice!! I'll be trying out the Mizuno JPX-919 Forged this Friday

Ross Danaher nice write up! I tried the 919 Forged, honestly I didn’t enjoy them one bit, I wanted to but the sole and overall appearance is way too chunky. Ended up with 585/785’s and couldn’t be happier. I tried the 760’s too and loved them, they play thinner than they look!

@@M40753 I finally hit the Mizuno JPX 919 Forged & Tour irons today. Hit the 4, 7, and PW in both sets and actually hit both wonderfully lol. The Tour version is closer to the compact head profile of my TM P-770's and I actually prefer the feel of them to the Forged (even the 4 iron!). Both felt incredibly soft off the face and had a penetrating ball flight, but the Boron addition into the Forged set might be accounting for that not as soft feel I was seeing in the Tours . Very easy to work left or right / high and low. Moved into the Nippon Modus 3 120g X shaft (P-770's have KBS C-Taper Lite shafts) and wow was there a difference. Timing was drastically improved! I originally thought I would like a Combo Set of these with Forged 4-6 and Tour 7 - PW. Now I wouldn't be scared to go straight Tour through the set....great clubs. Go give them a try!

Another great video. I tried the iron very shortly in my shop on trackman. Very good iron but not that good that it is worth the extra amount of money compared to other company’s with also great irons. This year played Wilson V6 irons ....almost bought the Mizuno MP18 irons but V6 felt just as good, great numbers on trackman and for less money....so people get fitted and have an open mind 😎👍🏽

Everytime it is time to hit the irons and Matt goes into the simulator I hear the Rocky music banging in my head. Going into the ring with the big boy pants, pounding balls like he should get arrested and Ian as the coach. Great review as always, it is very interesting to see the irons that comes out and if the tech kinda makes it harder to control distance etc. or if it just is an aid. My CF16 are great but when I hit that extreme sweetspot with a flyer or moisture on the blade I can fly the green by 15-20 yards with a no-spinner. Considering going into a jpx tour instead for consistancy

Loved them in my testing, and they are in the bag with Modus. They have that lively hot feel that the P790's have, but not to the 790 "distance iron" extreme. And in the scoring irons it's trustworthy.

I just completed a club fitting and ended up with the P760s. I went in thinking 919 forged; but these for me beat them soundly. I brought my spin rate down to around 5800 with the 6 iron as compared to 6750 with the 919s. The shaft I ended up working the best with was the Project X 6.5. These gave me the best numbers I have produced in almost 10 years.

Very nice job on video gents! I had the pleasure of hitting this exact same iron (P760 6 iron) about a week ago (at my local driving range) and I truly enjoyed the feel and they performed very nicely; moreover, they look Great! For the record, I play with Ben Hogans PTX irons. That said, given that my P760 mid-to-high iron have the same principle of inserts as my PTX, I can easily put these new P760 in my bag and play a round of golf without any hesitation. I would welcome a comparison for you guys to do with iron in this class; hence, those that utilize some form of inserts...i.e PXG, Hogan PTX. Keep up the great work guys...cheers!

Super review guys as always. You mentioned Pings Power/Retro lofts but I think you should have mentioned the effect on bounce when moving from the normal spec loft to either of the extremes. The customer needs to know that playability from certain lies could be compromised when bending irons by plus or minus 2 degrees. Keep up the excellent standard of your channel content.

Just laid eyes on these in person for the first time today and hit about 20 balls at an indoor golf shop. I agree they look much better in person than in pictures or video but the looks still don’t quite do it for me. At address they look really good and probably couldn’t tell them from a P770. Liked the sound and feel. I hit a 7 iron which has the least amount of speed foam and it seemed to me to have a little flatter more penetrating ball flight than the P 770 which I liked. The TM fitting cart had the DG120 x100 that I play in the 770 so it was nice to test with the same shaft. The P770 has a big hunk of Tungsten in the sole so I’m guessing that’s got something to do with the higher flight compared to the P760. The new P760s are nice irons and are for sure worth a look. But then I had to hit the Srixon Z785 again and all I could say was DAMN!!!! 😎

@chrischampion727
@chrischampion727 6 жыл бұрын
Bubba...I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not qualified to say one is better than the other. I hit 20 or so balls with the P760 and to me it was comparable to my P770 and those are top to bottom the best irons I’ve owned. P770 is soft, forgiving, and pretty consistent for me as a 10 handicap decent ball striker. I have no doubt the P760 would be too with probably a little more “pop” in the longer irons, which for most of us mere mortals is a good thing. In the US the P760 are almost $1300 retail which is pretty steep in my book. I’ve hit the Z785 a couple different times (4, 6, and 7 irons) and they just put a smile on my face. If I was in the market for new irons it would probably be a combo set of Z585/785 to get a bit more forgiveness and distance in the longer irons. I’ve seen combo sets of Z585/785 for around $1000. To me you’re getting more for your money with the Srixon. You gotta try em both and decide what works best for you 😉

The feel of these are soft, however, I noticed that on off-centered strikes it felt the same as out of the middle. Just to make sure, I backed up and made sure to hit it out of the toe (strike was half on the groves and half on the toe) still felt soft. I would have thought that a players iron would have a more responsive feel, however, if you want the soft feel on off-centered strikes plus forgiveness- this is the club for you.

Nicklaus hit a 1 iron 219 with a left to right in his face wind on 17 in the 1972 US Open and he didn't think he could get it there. Matt hits a 6 iron. This is where technology and increased iron lofts have taken us. I'm not sold on it in the short end of the bag. Long irons yes. Like lower spin balls (AVX), jumpers are an issue and over the green definitely comes into play with short and mid irons. Distance control is a premium, whether that is short 10 yards from a miss hit out of a blade, or 10 yards long out of a pured modern tech club. Long into the green is usually more penalizing than short. I can live with a mishit. A pure knuckleball strike over the green I can not.

I tried these a couple weeks ago. I agree with matt they were very soft. But I definitely think that a low handicap player would go for no speed foam. I gamed the 770's last year and like them although they were a little chunky. I think that the player that's really going to like these irons would appreciate a little more room from heel to toe, if they were a little longer I believe this would be another knock outta the park for Taylormade but overall great club. Love the reviews boys been here since day one and you guys are always moving up. Cheers

On the pre-worn leading edge, I agree that it seems beneficial, it adds a bit of bounce right where it's needed, but I don't really get the argument of "that's what the iron wants to do." You could apply the same argument to say that irons and wedges want to have smooth faces and rounded over grooves and woods want to have cracked heads.

Taylormade have never been known for a butter soft feel or even there forging process.. Could it just be the acoustics from the 6 iron due more to the “speed foam” that makes it sound/feel softer? And Ian as you quite rightly pointed out there very like the perimeter weighted R9 TP’s. What I think would really be cool to compare is if you could get your hands on one of the above match up the lofts and see if the foam actually has any other performance benefit other than sound..

ThunderMk2 I would suggest the Taylormade Forged 300 has to be one of the best feeling irons from any brand. Additionally, a number of the forged TP irons through the years have been quite soft feeling.
@ThunderMk2
@ThunderMk2 6 жыл бұрын
My first “ players set” were the 300 forged and I moved them onto the rac TP combo set and both were class and felt soft. My point is Taylormade would not be in a top 3 discussion for forged irons and it’s something they have not been worried about as it’s only a small percent of the market share. From there latest offering the p760 I was asking Ian the above..

Even though I’m a huge TM fanboy I’m Surprised you didn’t mention the price. ~2k CAD is a little steep. Especially if they are competing with mp18 sc.

they're 1600 cad on TM's website for 4-pw. So they aren't that much more expensive than the competitors.

They need to do 10 shots each per person because I just watched the guy on the right the older guy hit the p770 but wanted to compared those numbers to the p760s an he didn’t even hit them

Currently looking to replace my Nike VPC irons for next season. I like TM clubs so naturally the P760s intrigued me. Tried the demo 7 iron. PROS: I like the shape. Looks very nice at address. Slightly smaller than the P770. Feels great. Soft but powerful. Was seeing consistent ball flights and gained a few yards over my own 7 iron. No issues shaping shots either. A progressive set without having to piece together different clubs/models is also a plus (love my VPCs for the same reason) CONS: The big one is price. $1599 CAD for 4-PW seems a little steep. Only saving grace is knowing they will probably go on sale eventually. The other minor thing is I cant decide if I like the overall look. My first impression was "oh no, they crossbred a square strike wedge with the P790". In person, I don't hate them but they're not the sexiest "players" irons out there. Perhaps they'll grow on me. Performance wise I don't see any real cons and that's what really matters anyway.
