Hi, I am Fraser Malcolm, welcome to my channel. I am the Head Professional at North Berwick’s East Links (Glen Golf Club) in East Lothian, Scotland.

Just got fitted for a set of new irons, I swung both of these and some random Cleveland. The Qi 10 just felt more pure of the face and was about 10 yards further than my current irons. Went with these and I'm excited to use them this summer.

That 10 yards will be very useful, shorter clubs in use more often, handicap slash on the horizon.

From what we 've seen on the screen (ball flights, dispursion) its not even question that qi is more forgiving and more game improvement iron.

Yes I would agree it looked more forgiving but I always worry that forgiveness is affected by me actually hitting better shots in any given batch. That's why I'm hesitant to 100% commit to that statement. But as I said in the video my gut feeling is they are more forgiving.

@@golffm6924 ofc also at the end it comes also down how it looks like, maybe one will feel confudent seeing that QI behind the ball and other will admire how sleak and thin AI looks. In general i prefer TM 790-770 looks but in olayer improvement irons Callaway did better thing. But TBH the way to go for high HCP is TM STEALTH on Sale, can go 5-pw,aw,sw... 10,13 years ago we would buy set putter, 5-pw,sw, and 5,3,1 wood... and I still think for begginers its best to have pw,sw at the beginning, lets be real begginer will hit 9,pw better&further than 5,6i in a lot of cases

First time viewer and I really enjoyed your video but I’m a little surprised you didn’t mention how heigh the shots were going. Yes, I know the lifts are jacked up but, from your tests, it appears both clubs would have a very hard time holding a green ( low spin and angle of descent ). Agree? Thx.

Not really for how far its going, 43 is an acceptable decent angle for a ball carrying in excess of 185 yards and ending up pretty close to 200. It used to be achieved with a traditional lofted 5 iron and the lofts are similar between that and these new powerhouse 7 irons, the advantage i think of these is that you are using a shorter shaft which is much easier to strike properly and there's the psychological advantage of hitting 'less' club aswell

If I could bother you for one more question as I just tested the Callaway Smoke HL irons. Overall, I liked them very much but my average spin was around 4,300 with a descent angle of 43 degrees. The peak height was around 85 feet. I know it’s a hard question but am I gonna be able to hold any greens? For what it’s worth the carry was about 155 yards. Yes, I’m old. lol.

I just hit both of these at a fitting and I hit the callaway slightly better, the TM has kind of an odd look behind the ball so I went with the Callaways

Interesting to hear, yes, the Qi won't be for everyone with that slightly bigger profile.

Play a few rounds with each club and you will see the Smoke irons look horrible on the sole and around the toe. What's the sense of all that shiny chrome when the chrome is scratched to all hell. The Qi seems to wear much better and doesn't have all those eyesore scratches.

Thoughts on QI vs Stealth? Have the opportunity to pick up the stealth’s at a great price but not sure if I should wait?

The Stealth is superb, but I do think they've softened the feel and the Qi10 is possibly a touch more forgiving than Stealth , although I need to try to figure that out to be sure. The Stealth is brilliant and if its a good price, then go for it .

Did the Lucusade drink influence the test outcome? You should try the same with Scotland's national drinks, Irn Bru and Scotch, to see the effects on your golf game. Regardless, an interesting comparative review of the latest game improvement stuff from Callaway and Taylormade and thanks for that. IDK......do these perform any better for the average high handicapper than last years models? Perhaps marginally but most likely not enough to rush out and buy the latest....unless perhaps if a new purchase came with a free case of your choice of Scotlands national drinks? Hope you get over your cold. Slainte!

Haha, no I don't think the Lucozade did anything, I'll have to do a test on the Stealth or Paradym against this years irons. I have a feeling the new Qi10s are actually pretty forgiving and could beat the Stealth I reckon, by how much is the difficult bit though, is it worth it is the big question. Once I recover from my debilitating man flu I'll get on the case.

It looks as if the dispersion on the Taylormade would be a lot lower than the Callaway based on what I am seeing on screen. I am trying to figure out what to replace my titlist T100s I was given by a mate which are just way to unforgiving for a relatively new golfer. I am tied between the older stealth although it is 2 yrs old now and I would like to not upgrade for at least 4-5 years, the g430 or these new qi’s. I have also thought about the P790 as they are quite forgiving I have heard but would be good when I eventually transition in to more of a mid handicap golfer over the next few years ? Any thoughts?

My gut feeling would be Stealth, because they're really forgiving and almost could pass for a better player's club in terms of looks. They could last you 4 -5 years no problem. I know someone who uses them who is off a single figure handicap, and gets on fine with them, so they can fit a lot of people.

I think you should use a more forgiving club, it's obvious your pushing Callaway even if the q10 was more tight and further. Go back and look at the distance, not the same

I dont push the ball that much normally, irons are probably one of the stronger areas of my game. I dont really want to use something I dont like the look of that much. I'm also kind of in the middle of an attempted swing change so things are always as good as I would like at the moment.

What about disbursement? That would help tell you which is more forgiving? Thanks for the video very interesting that neither have forged faces , they might not feel as good as T300 or ZX4.

Yeah possibly not. Although they've definitely had a good go at a soft feel in the Qi10.

Yes I think so. Possibly the Ai Smokes for you over the Qi, just due to the slightly smaller head and less offset as you're a slightly lower handicap level. But either would work well, if you prefer the look of one over the other.

The smokes are less game improving, if you need more forgiveness then go qi10. Smokes have some forgiveness but almost seem game improving in name more than form. Solid iron both just depends what u need.

That qi is unplayable , for you anyway. 42 land angle is pretty poor. Gonna be a lot of runners if you play, as you say, where there is alot of run out.

Don't think it would be unplayable but it is a bit of a bullet. Would stop on soft greens and remember its carrying 180 plus, that used to be nearly a 5 iron and nobody expected that to stop on a sixpence.
