@@patonb exactly this, "oven cleaner/lye" is sodium hydroxide which is a corrosive and will eat aluminium for breakfast, people use it to remove aluminium clots from metal files. A good brake cleaner is just a denatured alcohol with no additive (cheap ones will include crap like chlorine which leaves a white residue when dry)

@Greg Jenko I wont try to change your mind and change your opinion ! But as you said if you're a new viewer , stick around ! You'll see what a mean, a car is not build/tested in 1 week with only a one guy army :) there's a procedure before making a car crazy or to dump 30k in it just like that, he has other things to focus and build on his channel ! We can't really blame him for leaving a car in the back for X period of time and start piling pieces for it in the back ,while working on something elses ! And as far as saying "winging it" its the 2nd video on the 86 lol , he just came out a 51 videos series just for the vette.. If that's just winging it, he got alot of Wing to give ! I just love that there are still some people around who are keeping the classics alive. Late 80s thru 2000 was the pinnacle of JDM vehicles. Sometimes I wish I never got rid of mine. I would've had a nasty rotary swap in it if I would have kept it, but I had found an FC at the right price at the right time.

I love watching peoples builds. Can I suggest two things: 1/ twin carbs accelerator linkage is better pulled from the middle of the two carbs. Off the side can cause twisted shafts. 2/ I hope you are going to make a shield over that msd box. Carbs sneezing fuel over an electrical box may not be ideal

I love a good old set up with carbs coming from a old skool ford background with mk1/mk2 escorts and a plethera of others in scotland. But just as a wee suggestion there is a company that produces a carb setup that is actually fuel injection. Its called the jenvey heritage DCOE throttle body its designed to look like a set of webbers but all the injectors are hidden away inside where the floats and jets would be. Old skool bits with new skool tricks lol.

I'll tell you my dad went to u of c back in 69 for psychology major, was invited as a member of mensia, and left both and toured Alaska. Him and a buddy in an old cj. They'd go town to town and when they ran out of money would settle temporarily and find some work. They made there way from Vermont up over to western Alaska and down through Montana, then down to Arizona and across the south back home. He settled back into Vermont and became a euro mechanic. VW, Mercedes, BMW, Volvo, Saab, even some Alfa Romeo and Corvette's. Now to make a relevant point lol. He always swore by pb blaster over all penetrating oil. This was from the mid 70s until 2020, when finally he actually changed his preference to seafoam deep creep... PB is still a tremendous product but seafoam really stepped it up on there penetrating oil!! Side note: He had a 1984 BMW 2002 with Weber carbs and a vw bus with a Judson supercharger... Now 38 years later I have an LS swapped Volvo 240 and a Volvo S70 T5 that runs low 12's...

Great build idea sticking with the 4AGE ...and even going Side Draight Weber on the Carb choice. Where you are making a huge mistake(And I'm guessing it is the REAL reason why the carbs were put up for sale), is in their sizing for the 4AGE displacement. a 48DCOE Pair on a 1.6L engine is a BIG no no... We've used that setup on out & out full race circuit Ford Escorts with over-bored 2.0L(increased to 2.4L), which revs to 10,500+ rpm, developing 360Crank HP. I know what you are looking for with this build ...you are looking for firstly, the sound associated with 'ITB' induction. And, I'm sure a wide range of rpm tractability ...You really needed to get your hands on a pair of 40DCOE carbs ...You will not be able to tune this setup properly due to the large throttle plate size. I'm not even sure of what size Primary Chokes are fitted, so that's another thing to look into right there. What you will find when attempting to get these Carbs driving is; opening the throttle at lower revs the engine will 'gasp' and fall over due to lost intake flow velocity. the fuel will essentially fall to the floor of the intake track and not be ingested ...this problem is amplified by the fact that you have fitted longer duration/high lift camshafts. The only part of the rev range that this engine will be happiest(Not even the best that it could be either), is very high up in the rev range. I'm telling you right now that you will be frustrated with trying to get this to work. You're gonna want to get rid of them in no time. I have been following your channel for 6+ years ...and I have loads of respect for your experience, and your work ethic. I really want you to enjoy the potential for this build like all your other builds. Do it right. and you will enjoy it! All the best next year Taylor !

When you redo the engine bay to make it all look pretty, you should make a aluminum pedestal stand in the corner near the stock air box location to mount the ignition box. It just looks real temporary sitting down on the frame rail. It will fill that empty area and also help hide that headlight harnesses, then you could run the wires underneath the core support instead of over the engine.

Why do those carbs have a welch plug in thge float vent, immediatly above the ram tube. And remember 3, max 4psi fuel pressure. Put the ign box under the dash. Engine bays are a bad place for electronics. The soft mounts on those carbs are done up too tight,, the carbs need to be able to flex individually. Those 48s are too big for a 1600, unsure of the mininum choke size but 36mm should be plenty, especially to street drive. injector block offs?? Use the injectors!!

@Taylordrifts - Don't mount that MSD coil horizontally if it is a fluid filled one - it will fail and cause problems. You will need to mount it vertically-ish.
