Been keeping fish for 23 years and the things people say sometimes are crazy. I’ve heard so many people go on and on about plants and all you have to do to keep them nice and growing. I just put them in regular gravel and done. My tanks are lush and beautiful without any extra work. I rarely remember to use fertilizer. So to your point, things work in different ways for different people. Nice video.

Hey thanks for the great video! I'm new to the hobby and being short on funds lol going slowly with my first tank. I'm working with a local aquarium store and they have been great on their advice and what fish can actually go together and on tank size etc...I bought used stuff off FB and some stuff needed to be replaced. I'm currently running with just filter and the stress coat cycling and waiting for my new heater to arrive in the mail. After the heater is set up the aquarium store is giving me free beneficial bacteria water to add to the tank and then a week later bring in some water and they will test it for $5. After they give me the ok I'm thinking of starting with plants and as I go buy decorations for the tank. Hopefully within the next few months I'll add some fish...starting with kuhli loaches🥰! In the end it will be a betta community tank. I can't wait❤️

I have researched for months about owning a betta fish and they can have tank mates (certain tank mates) as long as it's not another betta. So I went to petco and grabbed a betta fish then went to the community tank to grab some cory cats to go in the betta tank (29 gallon). The associate was like "no bettas are solo fish and cannot have tankmates" I just looked at her like yeah whatever. Fast forward..my betta tank has neon tetras and cory cats and there is no issue like she said it would be.

I have always had betta cos i luv them... from a 10 galon to 20 to 30 galons and always have mutiple mollies species as tank mates with no issues, the only time i ever had issues loosing my betta is when i has beanous tetra that fin nip. Bettas does supper great with tank mates. Even betta does have no issues with other bettas too if u have one male and like 3 female and u have lots of deco or places to break line of sight. I also have someone who has 2 males and 5 females with many other mollies and its stunning to see them without issues for the years he has had them. Now bettas are so confusing because they all have different personalities so this may not work in all scenarios.

@@de-luxe491 I agree. I would love to have multiple bettas in one tank but since I'm not that experienced with bettas I will stick to one betta per tank. In the future and more experience, I may try. Tetras are a nice pop of color tank mates for bettas. 😊

Great vid as usual, living in Louisianan loved the waterboy clip, to much water right now…As a long time reefer just getting back into fresh water your videos have been both inspirational and educational. When I asked my local fish store about using RODI, he said that’s not necessary or harmful for 90% of the average species. Also my first tank just cycled, live plants, snails, and wood, took one month with new filter and new substrate. Thanks!

I work at a pet chain store, and since joining them the fish and aquatic plant sales went up a lot :) I never tell people any of the bad advice in this video. Some people come in and say some of the craziest things, I was so baffled the first time I heard someone tell me "I left my water outside for 24hrs! Can I get fish now?" People keep saying it too! @@VR00100 always test for ammonia at least! The quick start doesn’t mean your nitrogen cycle is mature and stable in one day. Get a proper testing kit and make sure the water chemistry is stable over many days for that animal before adding it. Otherwise you’ll create unnecessary stress or even death as the water chemistry changes a lot when first establishing an aquarium.

@@VR00100 I think it's a great skill to learn the nitrogen cycle especially for someone who is brand new to the hobby. It's something we should all experience and learn. To tell a brand new fish keeper wait 24 hours isn't setting themselves up to succeed now and in the future unfortunately. Yes, there are things you can do to curve around a long nitrogen cycle, but allow a new fish keeper to learn the basics first, baby steps👍🏻

Adding fish the first day is all about studying everything there is to know about everything you are putting into your tank. Get the perameters right use Prime and Quick Start (or an equal quality product from the company of your choice) and test test test ( starting with your tap or other choice of supply). Added 11 juveniles to a 55 gallon 12 hours in and no losses or other complications after over 3 weeks

When I started fishkeeping again for the 3rd time in early 2020, I discovered my water has 1ppm ammonia in it. I freaked out at first, I already had a tank running for months and had just put fish in it. I dosed prime everyday and constantly tested the water, it would always be 1ppm. I've used other test strip brands and even the api master test kit, always reads 1ppm ammonia. But since my fish haven't been dying, I've just accepted that my water is just gonna read 1pmm ammonia everytime and there doesn't seem to be anything I can do about it. I've now been breeding shrimp for the past month in this water just fine!
@TazawaTanks

It’s usually fine, especially in an established tank that can break it down and convert it. If you add a dechlorinator that can bond/capture the ammonia for 24 hours, the beneficial bacteria that you have in your tank usually can break it down. Plants help too!

I don't believe in the cycling process of an aquarium. I add my fish the same day or maybe the day after I set up a new aquarium and never had an issue. I think bacterias will grow much faster if they have something to eat, like fish poop. Of course it will take some time for the colony to grow, so water changes like once a day is necessary the first week as the tiny amount of bacterias can not handle all of the waste that the fish produce. But the procedure of waiting a month before adding fish is not necessary at all. Just waste of time. If you have chlorinated water, wich I dont't. Then you have to wait a day or two, to get that vented out (as mentioned in the video). Or add dechlorinator to speed up that process.

What’s wrong with my hair??!! It’s my natural hair color. Are you saying that I should go back to dying my hair? I started getting silver hair in high school. By my mid 30s I was salt and pepper so I started coloring it. Now in my mid 40s, it’s mostly all silver. I decided to just keep it natural.

@@TazawaTanks You're telling me that silver is natural? I really don't totally believe that lol. It looks like the tone all the chicks are dyeing their hair.

Maybe its the roots of whats left of what you dyed before that make it look like that now that I look at it more.

@@Jbayz Yep, 100% natural. I last dyed my hair in early/mid 2020. No roots left either. Just the few remaining black hairs holding on! Lol! If you zoom in on some of my recent videos, you’ll see that the stubble of my beard is white too. 😩 When I had a beard, I was coloring it because I didn’t want to look super old. 👴🏾😜
