Terrific video! So glad to see such great tips to reduce that shine. I wear mostly blacks and dark brown, and colored dry shampoo is a standby. The baking soda bath helps too. I've always used woolite for cleaning, mixed with a tablespoon of baking soda. Been wearing wigs for 25 years so I might know a little about this stuff. Lol. Awesome video as usual!!

Michelle, do you always wear synthetic? Is it because of the price point of human hair? I am new to this as I just recently lost my hair on top.
@romantichorror52896 жыл бұрын
@@loridelafuente2548 Hi Lori, I have several human hair wigs, but mostly I wear synthetics because they are ready to wear at a moment's notice. I try to keep them brushed and styled on a Styrofoam head. Grab and go. Human hair is labor intensive, wash,condition,blow dry,set with hot rollers or flat iron...Since you're new to wigs, look up videos on KZbin on the care and styling of synthetics. Get yourself a hand held steamer, wig brush, wide tooth comb, watch those videos to learn how to steam out the inevitable frizzies and tangling at the nape of the wig. You'll learn that you can use wire mesh rollers and the steamer to recurl or restyle wigs that have seen better days. I find a steamer invaluable for fixing bangs on wigs that come out of the box all wonky and sticking out. Synthetics are made of plastic, and plastic can be bent and shaped with heat, just be careful, go slow, and you'll get the hang of it.

@romantichorror52896 жыл бұрын
@@loridelafuente2548 You're welcome. My sister recently discovered her hair had been basically cut off near the roots by wearing tape in extensions, and it killed me to see her so devastated. She cried for a week. I got a beautiful wig for her to wear until her hair, hopefully, comes back. My own hair has been thinning for many years, and the final blow came in 2016 when my husband died. My hair not only fell out due to stress and worry, but when it started to come back in, it had changed texture. Now, it's frizzy and twisted looking. Wigs saved my sanity back in 94, when I tried bleaching my hair and it turned bright pumpkin orange. Cut it ALL off and bought a wig. Thank goodness the wigs nowadays are so nice, and even inexpensive ones look natural, or as natural as a wig can look. Just remember...fake hair, don't care! Wear your wigs as if they are your own hair, because they are. If anyone asks, is that your hair? Just say yes! Keep your chin up, hold your head high, don't even think about how you're wearing a wig. It doesn't matter what anyone thinks...it just matters what You think. One more thing, before you put on a wig, turn it upside down, give it a quick shake and put it on. Make it look like you just rolled out of bed! It's more natural looking that way. No one knows I'm wearing a wig, and I get nothing but compliments on how beautiful my hair is. Try to stay within a few shades of your own color...or have fun trying just the opposite. Life is short, have some fun!

No question, you tamed the shine by all three methods -- it is quite obvious in this video and you made it look so simple. I like the baking soda bath. I wish I had known that shine would dissipate, when I first started wearing wigs. I gave away a few simply because they were too shiny and now can see that was premature. That said, I got a JR silicon spray to put on the heat friendly wigs to protect them each time I wear them and before putting them away, so I guess we add and subtract that coating as we need it. Funny, the silicon treatment does not seem to add shine, for some reason. This was helpful, especially for people who don't realize the shine is not a permanent problem! xo

Ok, going to put my new discovery here to share. So I purchased the L’Oreal Magic Root Cover Up spray. I have a few brunette wigs. One is the color Coffee Latte in the Amore and ROP lines. They are a little shiny for my liking. The L’Oreal spray has a super, super fine mist. Sprayed it all over…amazing! So excited it worked without clumping the fibers and no perfume smell or tell tale residue. I tried the dry shampoo for brunettes and the droplets were too large and didn’t really work. Left visible residue. I didn’t spray a lot either. The Root Cover Up spray comes in different shades too.

I wonder if I'm using the wrong liquid fabric softener or if I have synth wigs on which it just doesn't work. I've tried the fabric softener method on my Lapin d'or wigs and my Dream Holic wigs and it just makes them more shiny. I've used baby powder and dry shampoo but that makes them rough and hard to comb through, plus it might transfer on black clothing so that doesn't have my preference either. Vinegar also didn't work on my wigs. I also used baking soda, also didn't work. This is maddening because I've seen fabric softener work on the cheapest "party city" wigs, but it doesn't seem to work on my wigs.
