Thank you for another great reaction! Didn't have time and focus to comment earlier. Definitely good reason for comparison to Joss Stone, also a bluesey English girl with a great voice. Courtney has said of Happy Christmas War is Over that when she was asked to do a Christmas song, there was no other song she considered, that coming through quarantine, no other song said what she wanted to say. Thanks for your reaction, Tazz! This rendition is a great take on John Lennon's classic Christmas tune. All of the pics on the video are of Courtney and her two siblings (and a few with her mom). These lyrics were especially fitting because the world had lived through the toughest Covid year and lots of hope that the worst, and the fear, was over.

Hi Tazz. Great reaction. Courtney's version of this song is the most beautiful rendition I've ever heard, There have been many artists, including some very well known, that have put out their take on this classic, and Courtney shows everyone how this song was meant to be sung. There is literally no other artist that can reach out and grab your heart and soul when they sing like Courtney. She sings with so much passion and empathy and she has the ability to pull you in so that you can feel every nuance of the feeling that she is trying to convey. This treasure has now become one of my favorite Christmas songs ever and it was played many, many times in my household this past Christmas season and will be for many Christmases to come. Courtney's rendition is destined to become a true Christmas classic. This song was originally sung by John Lennon and Yoko Ono and is better known as 'So This Is Christmas'. You need to take a look at the lyrics, because this was originally written during the time of the Viet Nam war and the lyrics are very serious and explain the degree of seriousness with which Courtney sings the song. However, while Lennon's version was a statement of despair, Courtney takes it and turns it into a song of hope. She said that she chose to release this song at the end of 2020 because 2020 had been a very tough year (Covid) and we all needed some healing and she wanted to do her part to help that healing process. Courtney's version of this song is so uplifting and touching, that only someone with a heart of stone could fail to be touched to their very core by her rendition. The inclusion of the family pictures (Mother, Father, Brother, Sister) and Courtney's childhood photos add so much to this song. It offers a very personal and intimate glimpse into who Courtney is as a person. They re-enforce, better than any words, the sincerity with Courtney approaches this song and leaves no doubt as to how heart felt her intention of making this song one of healing and hope was to her. I don't know how you can listen to this beautiful and empathy packed rendition and not want to do your own part to make this world a better place. This song and the way Courtney sings it portrays the true meaning of Christmas unlike any other. Big news in the Courtney world is that Courtney has just announced that the debut single from her upcoming album will drop on Feb 21. The moment we've all been waiting for. The name of the song is 'Spellbound' and is available for pre-save on all music platforms now. Courtney has shared the initial clip of the song on TikTok and it sounds sensational. This single will be followed by at least one more single, and then the album drop itself. 2025 is going to be an amazing year for Courtney and for all of us as well. Can't wait to see it all unfold. BTW, Courtney has dropped live versions of five of her originals over the last two months (Breakable, Call Me Back, That Girl Don't Live Hear, Jagged and Christmas Rocks) that you haven't reacted to as of yet. All are on her KZbin channel. These live versions were meant to be content for us until the time her album was scheduled to drop, but COurtney just lights it up with them. Even though you've already reacted to the original music video, it's well worth hearing the live version. No matter how great the song, when Courtney is performing live, She always manages to elevate the song exponentially. The greatest live performer in music.

This song is a cover. It was originally from John Lennon in the 70s, about the ending of the Vietnam war. Good news about Courtney, her album of originals in on the way. The first single from it, called Spellbound, is almost ready to drop. I don't know what sort of formats it would take, but I'm ready for whatever is produced with this song.

Here's something I haven't noticed anyone else mentioning here: This recording, from 2020, is the very first collaboration between Courtney and Minneapolis music producer Kevin Bowe. They had met (on Facetime) just a few months earlier, and immediately started writing songs together -- which Courtney's label, Arista, refused to let her record, because they had their hearts set on Courtney being the next big Pop Princess, and none of Courtney's and Kevin's songs were in the approved genre. But they did let her record this Lennon-Ono cover, and Kevin produced it, though without any financial support from Arista. Courtney and Kevin continued writing songs, all filed in the trash can by Arista. Courtney's contract ended in 2022, and since the she's released 6 original songs written with Kevin (who then produces them), and a full album of new songs is due out in the next few months. But anyway, to repeat, this is the first song Courtney and Kevin worked together on.

Courtney's reason for wanting to do this song (in 2020) was to give people hope for the future after a year of the ravages of COVID. ("...And so Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year / Let's hope it's a good one, without any fear.") This video has been viewed 1.4 million times on KZbin.

Other commenters explain the John Lennon/Viet Nam connection and other things, like her album being about to drop. I just want to mention that Courtney here is 16, already with top level vocal range, versatility and creativity which she continues to explore and develop. I'm a bit familiar with Joss Stone, but IMO Courtney echoes a modern take more reminiscent of the powerfully emotive singers of the 60-80's at the pinnacle of musical creativity and emotional fire. "Outside the (perfect pitch) lines is where expression lives" was a great quote by Fil of Wings of Pegasus, where he shows the soulless effect of artificial pitch correction so common in today's music. Trying to "pitch correct" Courtney's voice as she slides so masterfully on and around the pitch line, would be criminal!
