Laminating a surfboard with a resin tint and cut laps. I used 4 oz E-Cloth with a deck patch and tail patch. Glassed with polyester resin and a brown resin tint made by mixing red, yellow and blue tints. Cleanup sanding with a 2” 40 grit sanding disk. Surfboard dimensions are 6' x 20.5 x 2.5. I've only glassed a handful of boards and am not an expert but this glassing process works for me.

Hi Tanner ! Great job ! I looked at all your videos and your boards are very clean and the shapes look good ! I was wondering what kind of product do you use to clean dust after the quick sanding at 40 ? Essence F ? There is no possible reaction with the hot-coat ? And a little last one, do you put a little bit of styrene when you do your stratification to make it easier for sanding or is it better not to ? Then you for your answer and have fun with your new board !!
@BendheimBoards
@BendheimBoards 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! I clean the board with denatured alcohol before moving onto the hot coat. Works great and won’t create any reactions. I use wax paper on my stands when I flip over the board to cut the laps since the board hasn’t fully cured and is still tacky. Once fully cured I take them off to sand.

love your videos man. I'm about to glass my first board and was wondering how long are you supposed to wait when taking the tape off for the cutlaps? are you supposed to wait until its completely dried and hard or only wait long enough where its not completely dry as to take off the tape?
@BendheimBoards
@BendheimBoards 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! You want to start cutting the fiberglass cloth after it’s kicked and is no longer tacky. For me it’s usually 2-3 hours after. If you wait until it hardens you won’t be able to cut the fiberglass and it will be a nightmare. Check out the instruction guide to glassing a surfboard on greenlightsurfsupply.com

I flip it to cut the laps between 1.5 to 2 hours for poly resin. Soft enough to cut but hard enough to flip it over.

Lovely work and great vid. Can I ask two questions: when you do the hot/sanding coats, do you normally add tint to that resin too, or is it just clear. Also, apart from the deck and tail patches, do you have just the one layer of glass? I am wondering how that compares to boards glassed with two layers on top, one on bottom. Thanks.
@BendheimBoards
@BendheimBoards 3 жыл бұрын
The hot coat goes on clear. Two layers on top and one layer on bottom is the standard. I just cut a V in the first layer on the deck to give it a little more style and the tail patch on the bottom is for the fins.

@BendheimBoards 2 жыл бұрын
@@franciscojosegarciagarcia4124 Yes you will need to grind down the laps where the fiberglass cloth overlaps. And yes, it will gum up your sandpaper, but your not supposed to add paraffin in the lamination. Only when doing the hotcoat. You could add a little sanding resin before grinding to avoid this but I've never done that.
