Heyy - shapper & glasser here for Abstractsurfboards in California. You probably may have seen this by now but I've learned that if you have REALLY stubborn air pockets coming from your channels you can get a razor you would use for cutlaps and just make a thin slice in those bubbles followed by a little dab of resin and working in with your fingers. It helps alleviate the air and makes life so much easier especially when catalyzing with MEKP and on a finite time limit. I'll even do this with any weird stubborn bubbles especially those that form on your cutlap lines.

@@ImaSmither that’s good to know! Thank you! 🙏🏽 I do that with the fin boxes but didn’t really make the connection to doing that with the channels. I’ll have to do that next time. I really appreciate the advice. Cheers 🍻

Nice job man! Shaping a board is one thing but glassing can be a whole other beast. Keep up the good work!! Looks like a great board.

Thank you 🙏🏽 Glassing is definitely a whole other beast! So many steps involved (just like shaping) and so easy to screw up. Still learning to perfect the process (if that’s even possible 🤷🏻♂️)!

Hey man, slightly bend your blade when you the lap, less chances to stick in the foam, easy cut straight lap : ] nice work man, I think I ought to switch to poly, epoxy is pleasant to work with and but expensive... and I guess you can't make your own blanks, or can you make home made PU blade blanks?
@paul_s-eo19 күн бұрын
@@slavickskromul281 I’ll try the bent blade technique again. I haven’t had good success with it! Maybe I’m bending it too much? I guess I need to be more patient! I prefer PU because it’s way more affordable and easier to work with! I’ve tried making my own PU blank and haven’t quite succeeded yet. Maybe I’ll try again soon.

Would love to see the design for your shaping rack I saw in another vid you slot shaping or glassing tops onto the base, looks so simple and functional for a one space shaper..

Hey! Yeah I can do a quick video on it! I know you inquired about it previously (?). I currently have been trying to modify it so it’s a little different than before. I have some complaints about it too, which I will put in the video too!

@@paul_s-eo yeah I probably did comment before too ! It looks rad haha a quick vid would be epic , will keep my eye out ! 😁

Is the process pretty much the same using epoxy? I’m gonna be glassing my first board in the coming months.
@paul_s-eo2 ай бұрын
Yes, I would say pretty similar! I don’t think epoxy has a uv version, but there are different speeds at which the resin goes off! I recommend using the slow kick for the first go around! Cheers and good luck!

this is sick i know its not easy im making a board of my own but you do make it look easy how do you avoid airbubbles when laminating
@paul_s-eo2 ай бұрын
Hey thanks! In general you want to make sure there’s full saturated of the fiberglass. If you have any gouges in the foam make sure you fill it or enough resin goes over it to fill it. There is also a filler you can apply before laminating, but I haven’t had great experience with it so I avoid that now. There’s also a comment below where he gave a top about cutting the fiberglass and dabbing it with resin! That also works well for futures fin box installation! Good luck!

Nice. But never touch the fiber cloth barehanded. Finger oils are detrimental for the lamination/resin.
@Surfmus2 ай бұрын
Use a clean brush, and also on the channels the brush makes it easier to set the cloth perfectly without wrinkles. How is the board riding?
@paul_s-eo2 ай бұрын
Thank you! I will try to remember that on the next one!

Nice! I will try the brush next time on channels! I haven’t been out on it on a good day yet! The last time it was really fun! Goes to bottom really nicely!
