Funny thing is, many modern viewers have trouble imagining Keanu Reaves as anything other than Neo or John Wick. But before the Matrix, most people had trouble seeing Keanu as anything other than Ted.

Yes! I remember in the 90's when Keanu started branching out into other genres, people were saying, "That stoner kid from Bill and Ted?" It was such a weird shift seeing him become a romantic lead, he was such a convincing "dude".

Alex Winter fell away from acting after a while and went into directing and producing, particularly theater, which was one of his passions. For reprising Bill in the third film, he said he hadn't acted in so long that he actually took, I believe, some acting lessons in order to get back into it.

Dude, seriously? I'm 44. I grew up with these movies. I saw the sequel in theater. I actually hate the sequel. I've seen Excellent Adventure at least 100 times, I've seen Bogus Journey maybe 5. Two things: 1. At no point does Rufus ever tell them his name, they only get it from themselves. This is referred to in temporal concepts as the bootstrap paradox, where information is shared between individuals via time travel with the knowledge only being known because someone who knew it introduced it in the past so they’d learn it later. 2. Bill and Ted basically, during the rescue, weaponize the idea of the predestination concept, in essence proving they cannot lose because they have already succeeded and were able to go back and help to begin with.

Bill and Ted telling each other information is the bootstrap paradox, but the naming of Rufus is actually an ontological paradox, because the information has no discernible original source. In contrast, the information “you guys are going to have a most excellent adventure through time” is not an ontological paradox because it is directly experienced by Bill and Ted. As another example, Marty McFly getting his parents together is a bootstrap paradox, while the song “Johnny B. Goode” is an ontological paradox, since Marty didn’t invent it, he learned it from Chuck Berry, but Chuck Berry didn’t invent it, he learned it (over the phone) from Marty.

It can get even freakier. In Timerider: The Adventure of Lyle Swann, he has a pendant that has been in his family for generations. It's said that his great, great grandmother stole it from his great, great grandfather. At the end of the movie, the woman he fell in love with snatches it from him before he's taken back to the present, making him his own ancestor. Not only that, but where did the pendant come from originally?

The great thing about time travel is that, since it isn't actually possible, you can do whatevr you want. Most people agonize about justifying every detail, but this movie just doesn't care, and does what serves the story. Bill and Ted accept the idea implicitly and make no effort to blend in anywhere they go, cheerfully assuming that it's all cool. It's genius, and a great palate cleanser when you get too serious about science fiction and/or movies. 😄

@@Serai3 I once read short story about time travel. A scientist creates a small, prototype time machine, which he demonstrates to his friends. He sends it a few minutes into the future and it works perfectly. He then says that in five minutes, he'll send it back in time five minutes, and right on cue the time machine appears. His friend asks, now that the machine has already appeared, what would happen if he decided NOT to send it back. The scientist thinks this is an interesting question and decides to find out. This causes the entire universe to blink out of existence. :)

Fun fact abou that Circle K, it was filmed in Phoenix, AZ where I live and it just closed down not too long ago. It was on the news that the film Bill and Ted was filmed and encouraged fans of the movie to visit the location one last time before it was demolised.

I actually saw a bunch of George Carlin's comedy shows from my dad's collection before I ever saw this movie, and out of everything, I was most excited to see him in the movie. What makes this movie so great is that it knows what it is, and it leans into the fun and goofiness of it without overdoing it or taking itself too seriously. Tons of fun to watch. If you can, I'd recommend watching the other two. I think this one is the best, but they were all very entertaining.

The change in acting styles by Keanu was because he didn’t want to be typed cast as a Ted style. He was often casted as this type in person in other roles. Doing Point Break was what got him out of this typed casting.

They filmed this in my hometown of Phoenix Arizona! Metro Center, which they filmed the mall scenes, sadly no longer exists. But it was a great experience while it lasted.

Keanu has played so many different roles in so many different genres. He did a ton of 80s teen TV stuff from music videos to Dinsey, but he's done a surprising amount of drama which is just about even with his action roles, like 45%Action/adventure, 45%Drama/romance, 10% other whacky/zaney stuff. I basically grew up watching his movies right along side all the other big names in hollywood, since 4th grade. Another great adventure type movie of his you probably haven't seen is Johnny Mnemonic; a cyberpunk style thriller. Enjoy!

Genghis Khan is played by legendary stuntman and martial artist Al Leong. he was in a TON of films and tv shows through out the 80s and 90's. always playing a henchman. He was in Die Hard, Lethal Weapon 1, My Science Project, They live, and many more. His role here is actually one of the few roles where he didn't die. lol

The waterpark was filmed at an amusement place in Mesa Arizona outside Phoenix. We used to go mini-golfing there a lot. Good times. Not sure if it's still open. That entire metroplex has changed vastly since I graduated and left there in the mid-90s.

I'm from san dimas, there is no mall, there is a waterpark, but the one in the movie is actually in arizona. they did film the circle k shot there, but that circle k has been torn down and moved since then.

Hey, Schmitts! This is a classic comedy that has aged well and even spawned a reunion sequel 30 years later! Napoleon goes to Waterloo Water Park because the name was familiar. Napoleon was defeated at Waterloo, Belgium in 1815 by the Duke of Wellington. Beethoven was the composer who went deaf. He was eventually forced to "hear" his own music by pressing his ear to the piano to feel the vibrations. Sigmund Freud holding the corn dog is meant to be a phallic joke but sometimes a corn dog is just a corn dog. The 1,000,000 BC launch which startled the cavemen and their discovery of gum was meant to sort of parody the monolith sequence in "2001: A Space Odyssey". An Oedipus Complex is when one desires intimate relations with one's own mother. The name is derived from the Sophocles tragedy. The "princesses" were probably just noble ladies-in-waiting, not historical figures. They're played by a different pair in each film of the trilogy. Saxophonist Clarence Clemons of the E-Street Band was the central leader in the future sequence. The phone booth is a riff on Doctor Who despite the screenwriters denying it to avoid legal repercussions. Brilliant stroke of luck if their claim is true. The sequel, "Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey", is not very good but features a hysterical performance by William Sadler as the Grim Reaper by way of Ingmar Bergman! He's worth the price of admission! The trilogy caps off with a surprisingly well-done reunion film made thirty years later called "Bill and Ted Face the Music"! The duo returns as do Ted's cop dad, Missy and Death all played by the same actors. The plot is clever and the pair finally achieve their destiny. How do these knuckleheads usher in a Pax Humanitas? Well, you've just got to see it!

You guys look like you really enjoyed this. It's such a fun film. You do have to watch it a few times before you catch all the little historical references. Like when they're talking about where Napoleon is and they determined it must be Waterloo which of course is reference to the Battle of Waterloo....Napoleon against the Duke of Wellington which eventually led to the fall of Napoleon control over Europe. Most of these went over my head when I was a teenager when this film came out. It's a fun way for people to learn a little bit about history. The other two are fun films as well. I hope you watch them as well.

There are 2 sequels or follow up movies to “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure”, “Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey”, “Bill and Ted Face The Music” but I don’t know if the sequels were as well received as the original movie in the “Bill and Ted” trilogy. The guy staring opposite of Keanu Reeves as the other half of wild Stallions is Alex winter. Great reaction. Continue to love and enjoy your movie reactions TBR and Samantha.

Just got the notification 12 hours ago and was thinking oh heck yes, I'll watch your reaction. Alex Winter was the little vampire in the Lost Boys, that's where I know him best. This is one of Keanu's best performances. I do suggest you react to Bogus Journey and haven't seen Face The Music which the only spoiler from the trailer I noticed is that they both have daughters from the princesses. Their music is critical to society in the future. Nice reaction guys and so happy that you finally saw this iconic film.

The mall they go to is Metro Center, my childhood mall. That was THE mall for all of us growing up. I knew all those stores and it's a shame it closed a few years ago.

Hey Guys, You two are one of my favorite channels to watch for Movie viewing. Bill & Ted is probably one of my favorite movies, top 10. I had just graduated HS when this was playing in theaters so it felt very relevant at the time. The movie trailer on TV in the day used the clip of Abraham Lincoln saying "Party on Dude" and I remember thinking, "skip this one, it looks dumb..." My friend and I ended up going to it on a lazy afternoon and we were both shocked how good it was. I'm not sure the 2 sequels measure up to this movie, but they are both fun and do continue the story which is wonderful. I can't wait to see your future reviews to this trilogy. Saw this in the theater when I was a kid and LOVED IT! I recently saw the first two John Wick movies and had to laugh when I thought of him in this role! The first thing I ever saw him in. Most of my friends think it's blasphemous that I haven't seen all The Matrix movies.

What I love about this trilogy is that Bill and Ted are just good guys. There's no cynicism whatsoever. And that's really refreshing. I'd call it the "Ted Lasso effect".

When Billy and Socrates are talking to the two girls and Sigmund Freud butts in, notice his corn dog, and what happens to it when the girls mock him.

One of Napoleon's most famous battles was at a place called "Waterloo", which the water park is named after, that's why he goes there. ABBA, the band, has a song about it too that's really famous.

Fun Fact: The Ataris have a song titled ‘San Dimas High School Football Rules’ on their excellent album ‘Blue Skies, Broken Hearts…..Next 12 Exits’. They also have song titled ‘So Long Astoria’ which featured on the album of the same name. The titles allude to Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure & The Goonies respectively.

The craziest thing about this movie to me is that several of their traveling companions would be killed in one way or another probably not that long after they got back. Joan of Arc, Socrates, Billy the Kid and Lincoln. Most horrifically Joan of Arc would be burned alive at the stake a few years later. I wonder if they considered doing anything with that in the film or if they figured that would be too much of a downer lol.
