And another movie you should watch and react to, Million Dollar Baby, starring Hillary Swank, Clint Eastwood, and Morgan Freeman. (And Freeman narrates as well). Clint Eastwood repeats the Academy Award wins for Best picture, best director, best actress (Swank), and best supporting actor, (Freeman). Eastwood also was again nominated for best actor also, but didn't win. Oh, bring a lot of tissues.

Danny Wheeler who they said was #2 Pound for Pound that he fought in the gym is a real boxer named Andre Ward. Andre Ward was #2 Pound for Pound in real life right behind Floyd Mayweather and retired Undefeated in 2017 after winning championships in Multiple weight classes and being the last man from America to win a Gold Medal in the Olympics in 2004. Tony Bellew is a real boxer as well and plays the guy he fought at the end. Andre Ward was one of my favorite fighters. Nice to see a true Master of the Craft of Boxing cast in this movie.

Yes, also his son died of a heart attack when this movie was in pre production so Adonis looking at a picture of young Robert played by Stallone’s real son is very heart breaking. According to Stallone and Coogler, the father and son dynamic between Rocky and Adonis was a tribute to Sage

The director of this film, Ryan Coogler, was an actual Rocky fan. You can see how much heart he put in the making of this. that's why everythings fits, why every aspect of previous movie is given due respect. One of the interesting things with Creed is how sorta melancholy the ending actually is. They never actually say that Rocky beats his cancer - just that he's agreed to fight it. Creed's girlfriend is still losing her hearing and they can't stop that. The champ is good enough to beat Creed for now, but he's going away to prison and when he comes out he won't be in his prime anymore. Nobody in the movie beats time, time is undefeated.

Another boxing themed fiction comes to mind. "A Piece of Steak" by Jack London also explores how fighters cannot beat time, as the old must be destroyed by the young who become old themselves in the battle.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned this so my apologies if someone has but Sylvia Meals who played Apollo Creed's wife in Rocky 2 and 4 passed away in 2011, but honestly I don't think they could have possibly found a better replacement to play the character than Phylicia Rashad. Honestly after a few minutes I almost forgot it was a different actress and fully believed it was an older version of Apollo's wife. I saw this in theaters and this one was HARD to watch. I'd seen all the Rocky films so getting all the references so seeing Paulie's grave hurt, but, for me, it was painful to watch as I'd lost my father to cancer 2 years earlier. He fought for over a year so I spent a LOT of time in hospitals and many long nights helping my Dad while he was violently sick, so when Adonis is carrying Rocky to the bathroom to be ill I FELT that.

Rocky Jr's absence is because Stallone's son Sage, who'd played him in the fifth film, had tragically died of heart disease at just 36 a few years earlier. Some facts about Creed: Movie opened November 25, 2015. This date coincides with the 40th anniversary of the opening scene in the original film, where Rocky fights Spider Rico. Sylvester Stallone shocked the world winning the Best Picture Oscar with Rocky. But he never won an acting award. He WON Best Supporting Actor at BOTH the Golden Globes AND the Critics Choice Awards for Creed. He SHOULD have won the Oscar, as well, but lost in a controversial split decision to Mark Rylance for Bridge of Spies. Rylance was great but only appeared in that movie for about 10 cumulative minutes. People gave Sylvester Stallone standing ovations at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards. At the Globes, Will Smith was seen clapping next to Jada Pinkett Smith. No punches were thrown.

Movies are more of a director's medium...either making or breaking the script into a finished film. But Ryan did write the story outline for Creed III so there is a base. Then again, his brother is a co-writer who just finished Space Jam: A New Legacy, which was a terrible film. This film really showcases the difference between Stallone and Schwarzenegger. The media would pit the two as action movie rivals, which they were from a marketing standpoint for their action films, but honestly Stallone was more of an "actor" in the traditional sense. While I will definitely, definitely agree Sly had always been more of a 'actor's actor', don't discredit Schwarzenegger too much! I have watched the interviews and documentaries, but it seems Schwarzenegger had a harder time breaking out of the action-star mold because of his voice and accent. There is some footage out there of people saying Arnie really wanted to expand in to Comedies and Drama's, but publishers didn't think it would work and would leash him to more action-oriented projects. tl;dr: Stallone /is/ a true actor, but Arnie definitely tried to expand his repertoire.

Sidenote: Apollo also had two children with Mary Anne, they can be seen briefly in Rocky II. However, they are never mentioned in the Creed films.

This is my favorite sports movie of all time!!!! And it home hard for me because this movie came out only 6 months after my mom passed away from complications from cancer. She had fought it on and off for 10 years, and because she was a single mother I was her primary caretaker. The scenes of Rocky struggling from the chemotherapy were hard to watch, but the fact that it was perfectly matched with the training montage definitely uplifted me. The line of “If I fight, you fight” still stays with me because my mom and I had the same deal. She fought for 10 years on and off and while it was a rough fight, it was worth it. As for the movie itself, it’s a flawless masterpiece. Ryan Coogler actually tried to make Creed his first film but Sly Stallone said he would only work with him after he did at least one film. After he made Fruitvale Station Sly was all in. And I mean this from the bottom of my heart, this is (in my opinion) the best performance of his career. He was robbed of an Oscar but thankfully he got TONS of other awards for this movie. The scene of him telling Donny that he wishes he could spend one more day with his wife still brings me to tears.

Saw this in the theatre with a hope this good attitude. Came out loving this movie so much. Cried when rocky said he’s not gonna fight the cancer and especially when creed said to prove I wasn’t a mistake. That hit too close to home for me. That’s what made me love it. Got the soundtrack too for the gym next to the rocky soundtracks

The movie could've felt like bad Rocky fan fiction, but the performances and directing elevate it. Stallone won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in this film, 30 years after being nominated for playing Rocky in the original film. By the way, that slow-motion punch that nearly knocked Adonis out toward the end? Michael B. Jordan took that punch and was knocked out for real to get that shot.

I've really enjoyed watching you react to the Rocky series and was really anticipating this one. I grew up watching the Rocky movies as they came out. Being in mid 50s now, I can relate much better to where Rocky is in his life. When I first watched Creed, it had been more than a few years since seeing the Rocky movies, so there was a lot I didn't catch. Going through the series with your reactions had given me a much greater appreciation for how good this movie is. Thank you for that.

The spinoff that nobody saw coming. Very much on par with the first and last Rocky films. You couldn't see this film in any other way. I knew that Apollo had a couple kids (boy and girl) that were in Rocky 2. Pre-release, I thought that Adonis was one of those kids. But as the child that nobody knew about was a big surprise. Loved the writing and direction by Coogler. Great chorography for the fights. B. Jordan gives one of the best performances of 2015. Stallone never dissappoints as Rocky, nominated once again and he wins the Golden Globe (Best Supporting). The success of CREED reminds us of what Rocky said in the previous film. It ain't over till it's over. Wait till you see part 2.

There are a lot of reasons I think this is a great movie. Ryan Coogler, the director, said that he got the idea for this story because his dad got sick when he was young. He had always thought of his dad as a powerful man, and to see him get the wind knocked out of him from the illness was really powerful for him. The Rocky movies were something they watched together, and so the series had great personal meaning for them. When Coogler went to pitch the movie to Stallone, he was really intimidated because Stallone created the character and was so protective of him. This is the first Rocky movie that Stallone had no part in writing. I think it really works in the film's favor though, in the sense that the movie parallels its own making. You just swap Coogler for Adonis, and Stallone for Rocky -- a young guy comes to lure the famous veteran out of retirement. In the scene where Donnie finds the photo of Robert, they used a photo from when Stallone's own son played Robert. As many mentioned, Stallone's son passed away, and I think you really feel a weight of emotion in the scene when Stallone talks about how he "moved to Vancouver." The great payoff for the movie is that Coogler's dad survived his illness and recovered, and got to attend the premiere of this movie that his son made resurrecting the character they loved so much. I agree with the commenter above that this is the best Rocky. It edges out the original, barely, but I also think Creed could not be what it is without the foundation of all the other Rocky movies. It manages to top it, but only by building on everything that came before. It also helps that I think Stallone gives one of the best performances of his career in the movie. "You're a Creed, and I love you kid" and "My wife tried that" are just such powerful moments. He deserved the Oscar.

Fantastic reaction! 😊 I love this movie. And your guys' reaction made me love it even more. I know that it's probably already been mentioned already. But Sylvester Stallone wasn't planning on returning to the Rocky franchise. But he saw the movie "Fruitaville Station" also starring Michael B. Jordan and also directed by Ryan Coogeer, and decided to make this movie after Coogler showed him the script. There's a great documentary called "From Rocky to Creed" that worth the watch. It talks about the entire franchise. And how even Stallone gave advice on this movie when Coogler needed help. 33:22 Fun Fact: This knockout that Adonis gets is really Michael B. Jordan getting knocked out. The story goes is that this was Michael B. Jordan's "initiation into the world of Rocky". Sylvester Stallone had the actor(who is a real boxer) give Michael a punch because it wasn't looking right on camera. The guy punched a little too hard. And what happen made the final cut of the film. And according to Stallone he took a real punch, Carl Weathers took one, and even Dolph Lundgren(Drago, Rocky 4) took a real punch. You can find video of Michael B. Jordan getting knocked out on KZbin. Fun Fact #2: Sylvester Stallone won the Best Supporting Actor Golden Globe for this movie. Love Tessa Thompson as Bianca. She's got great on-screen chemistry with Michael B. Jordan. Really looking forward to seeing what you both think of "Creed 2". It has a different director, as Ryan Coogler was finishing up directing "Black Panther". I think Coogler co-produced "Creed 2" though. Looking forward to your next reaction. 😊

Boxing isn't as popular as it used to be when Muhammed Ali was the most famous person in the world, but it's contributed so many common English sayings: it's the origin of "saved by the bell"; having someone "in your corner"; going "toe to toe" with your enemy; "rolling with the punches"; that was "below the belt"; "beating them to the punch"; "throwing in the towel"; "knowing the ropes"; "giving them the old one-two."

There's a documentary about the making of Creed, with a ton of really good behind-the-scenes footage and stories from director Ryan Coogler, Stallone and Michael B. Jordan. I'd love to see you guys react to that. It's just that good. One of the funny parts was when they talked about Jordan taking real punches and hitting the canvas for real. Yes, so much much of the fighting in this movie felt real because a lot of it was.

As someone else mentioned below, another boxing movie, more fun to watch is Grudge Match. Robert DeNiro really had to talk to Stallone in making this movie with him as Stallone didn't really want to make a Raging Bull vs Rocky comedy and disrespect his Rocky character. Well, it was made and was fairly good. Besides, DeNiro really wanted to work with Stallone again since Cop Land.

When I watched this film for the first time I never expected to cry as much as I do, I still do everyone, I love how Adonis is there with him whilst Rocky his throwing up in the toilet, so beautiful it broke me. A couple of real life Boxers in this film , Andre Ward is the guy Adonis fights first, and Pretty Ricky Conlan is my fellow countryman and former Cruiserweight champion of the world Tony Belew. There’s a lovely echo/callback to Mickey when Rocky says to Adonis “I love ya kid” which were Mickeys last words to Rocky before he dies. I’m glad you mentioned about how good Stallones acting is, I think it’s generally people who haven’t really watched him who say he’s a bad actor, as far as action stars go he the absolute best!

When Rocky got the cancer diagnosis, she made me pause the film , and forced me to tell her if Rocky was going to die, because if he was, she was not going to watch the rest of the film and watch another franchise get ruined lol, I had to promise that HE was going to be OK lol .
