@Zaburino
@Zaburino Жыл бұрын
I always felt it was brought up because the line from the pilot was an aggressive stance for the Carmela we've seen seasons of, but pilots need to paint with broader strokes so I understand why the writers went with it. I imagine since Carmela wasn't fully nailed down and Edie Falco hadn't even been cast when the scene was written, the character back then could have gone in several directions, with some versions of her more involved with the mafia side of things and more adapted to the violence and politics. I mean, the pilot also had Carmela wielding an AK47 when she catches Meadow sneaking out! That would be cartoonish in season 4.
@king_supreme1102
@king_supreme1102 Жыл бұрын
@@Zaburino yeah I thought the AK47 part was weird too. Carmela definitely not that kind of person. And Meadow isn’t even really like wtf she’s just annoyed she got caught. It put me under the assumption that the whole family very well knew about Tony’s business. Because what rich family runs around with AK 47’s around the house and it’s normal.

This is my favorite episode of the entire series. It feels like everything has been leading to this, this inevitable implosion of Tony and Carmella's marriage. We all know how great Gandolfini is in the role, but Edie Falco just KILLS IT in this episode. Phenomenal acting.

I've got to agree with you. For some reason everybody always makes such a big deal out of Pine Barrens, where Paulie and Christopher are lost in the woods, which is a great episode, but it's just sort of a comedy of errors kind of thing. Yes, it's amusing. But Whitecaps is a real knockout, it's epic, writing wise, plot wise, acting wise, the immensity of it, etc. It's such a shocker. Easily one of the top 5 episodes and one hell of a season finale.

@@kristinalfc5846 I really doubt we see another show like this in our lifetime. GoT and Breaking Bad are the closest. I think Sopranos is still much superior to both. GoT rivaled Sopranos in terms of greatness at one point. Like GoT at its peak, really wasn't far behind, but they never came close to the longevity like Sopranos. And the last season was just bad. Sopranos never had a bad season. Hell, I really don't think Sopranos ever had a bad episode. Some weren't great, but I can't really say any episode was just 'bad', and that's hard to say when it comes to any show. Sopranos went out great, where GoT went out crapping themselves.

What Tony said while floating on the raft was “bad for the glass”, from the film Chinatown, which I highly recommend you guys consider for the channel. A really intelligent moment for Chrissy. He tells Tony he’s gonna give them half of the hit money to keep quiet and not do it. Tony innocently agrees because he’s so concerned about cutting all ties to the play that he doesn’t see the scam. Chrissy kills the guys and then gets his people to rob the hit men. Thats not how i see it, i dont think thats what actually happened. Chris says he'll give them half, that should work, and Tony says, very pointedly, "i want you to make SURE, i told you that". Earlier, Chris says the guys wont talk, and Tony says "make sure". That means kill them. When he says it again hes reminding Chris the same thing - to kill them, so theres no possible way word can ever get out. Thats the only way to truly "be sure". And because Tony knows Chris is going to kill them, he'll be expecting the payment money back. Who knows, maybe he'll give Chris a bit of it, but probably not much. Lastly, look at Chris's face when Tony says he wants him to make sure - he's not that happy about it. Am i saying he's upset, feels guilty, or is having doubts about being a mobster - no. And he will obciously follow orders. But look at his face. He doesnt like it. He doesnt really want to kill 2 more people. At this point the bloom is off the rose to a degree in regards to his infatuation with mob life. He no longer thinks doing hits makes him a badass or that it'll advance him up the ladder - its just a chore. And Tony tells him to do it so easily. Reminds me of Chris telling Ade "thats who i'm going to hell for... my Uncle Tony.

I never believe those kinds of stories. The wall punch happens in two seconds. If it was improvised, then how was the crew 'ready to intervene'? Are they psychic? Actors protraying emotions don't have to feel the emotions (that's why they are acting) so he was probably in total control. He LOOKS scary and out of control, because he's a good actor. He isn't out of control, because he's not actually a violent mobster. No disrespect to you or your story, I just think a lot of these stories are made up by outsiders and people who heard about intense scenes and want to spice up the event.

You need to take this culmination in context: the phonecall from Irina came on the back of her "losing" Furio, the depression, the heartbreak, the vulnerability of her situation at that point. Carmella knew all along that Tony was cheating on her, it's part of the lifestyle (refer to Goodfellas) and her realisation that she could swallow it while she was "paid off" with the luxury lifestyle finally became the literal straw that broke the camel's back. Great acting in this episode and great reaction (as usual) from you guys. This series still has a ride in store for you lol
