Not a bad idea, to be fair, there's not much more to be done on LQ. The problem is that the receiver and the transmitter connect with the TX has also been modified Reaction between the transmiter and the reciver and so on are shown in betaflight normaly function, but if you turn off the betaflight and connect the copter to the battery then there is no reaction. If you connect the battery to the copter then only three tones... sound normally but this is all. As I said before in betaflight everything works wonderfull, but if you just connect the battery beeps three times, the receiver and the transmitter connect to eatchother,but there is no reaction. Copter which is ESC it was also set with BL Heli there everything is okay what could be the reason.

That's a weird one - so will it update the firmware, or does it just sit there with a solid red light. Presumably the button does nothing either ? So, if I connected the Nano rx via sbus, would I get dynamic power? Not to mention the "locked in" feel? I am asking because I am replacing a FrSky receiver and I'm too lazy so I will just use the cables that it was soldered onto the FC with 😁🤫🤭
@CurryKitten3 жыл бұрын
Connecting via SBUS would get you the dynamic power... you'll find it difficult to run out of range, but it'll feel the same as FrSky on SBUS. You have to use CRSF for the lower latency - which normally means a different UART than SBUS as CRSF is non-inverted

@CurryKitten6 жыл бұрын
I didn't notice the battery drain any faster - I was out for a few hours flying and messing around, so could be different for a full day. I'll keep a close eye on it next time. I would assume that the power drains faster the more power it uses. My module should have been on 25mw for most of the time, just jumping up to 100mw when it needed to, but with 250mw available now... that's a lot more. I want to sort out the telemetry alerts to shout the power at me when it changes, I think that would be quite interesting

Picture stays the same - that's down to the VTX and the video receiver. What the crossfire can do - aside from working at a much longer range is shorten the latency between your control inputs and the quad responding. If you are super-new to it all, then it's likely that you won't notice the difference, and you'd be better off using a 2.4gHz radio system as they are more simple to get going with

I'm happy you have good experience with Crossfire. My own experience with Crossfire is completely different. I have had two Micro TX modules that both gave me fail-safes 30m away from me, crashing many times. I also got warning about low LQ more or less constantly. I used two identical quads both with Nano receivers and I had similar problem with both. I had endless conversations with TBS help desk and they were very helpful, gave me lots of advice that I followed, but in the end I sent back the two Micro transmitter modules and ordered the big Crossfire transmitter module. I still have fail safes even when I'm less than 100m out but I don't get these endless LQ low warnings. The crossfire is set to 500mW and with dynamic power OFF. I have made range tests walking 600m away on 10mW with no problems but never the less I get dropouts and I cannot control the quad. Because of this I'm now using Betaflight 3.5 with gps and return to home... without that I would go back to 2.4Ghz. With 2.4GHz frsky during two years flying I have had fail safe three times (short ones, no crashing). I tracked that to a broken antenna and fixed it. For a while I had one quad with frsky and one with crossfire. I cannot say that I can feel any difference between the two.
@CurryKitten6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for posting - I think it's important for people to see that it doesn't go everyones way, and there's obviously failures in some cases. Are you in US, I noticed the initial batch of antenna wires were tuned for 868 but not 915 which is what you'd use, and thus have to trim them. You using a QX7, did you do the required HW/SW mods, or did yours work as well? Weird how you can walk 600m away on 10m and then have issues on your quad - obviously, you might think it's the quad, but I'm sure you've gone through component by component. Do you have a plan of what to do next to try and resolve it ?
@Siamect6 жыл бұрын
I live in Thailand and 915 is what we are supposed to use here and on 868 is it way worse, you cannot even start before you get warnings. I have checked the antennas and I have replaced one with a home made one calculated on 95% of light-speed and it is bigger than the one TBS delivered! I get good numbers on noise floor and signal from both antennas. I have done the HW mod and it works well. It feels like the receiver just stops working, so I beefed up capacitors and I even replaced the +5V regulators to a different model with different switch frequency. I have re-soldered everything under a binocular microscope... Maybe I just got two receivers from the same bad batch... What to do next... I don't know... As long as the GPS and return to home can help me not loosing my investments I think I just fly and enjoy life...

Hi Wayne, just bought a caipripriana second hand which has crossfire tx installed (not sure which one). Can I use any crossfire rx (micro, nano,lite) to communicate with the tx
@CurryKitten3 жыл бұрын
When you say Crossfire TX installed - do you mean it has an RX installed, or that it came with a TX module, but no receiver. But yeah - if you have the TX then you should be able to bind to any of the RX's and it'll do lovely things like update the firmware of the RX over the air if it needs to

@@gregorydobson4307 So - just so I understand - you bought it and got the wing and a radio with a Crossfire module in place, but no RX in the wing? Apologies - I'm slightly confused by the word "installed" when referring to the TX. Which receiver to get depends on what else is running on the wing. If it's got a flight controller - like iNav or similar - installed and just wants an SBUS or CRSF signal, then you can use very simple wiring from a nano rx, that said even the nano can run 4 PWM signals which is more than a wing needs
@gregorydobson43073 жыл бұрын
Sorry Wayne, let me start again, I have a taranis with no crossfire tx in it, (2.4ghz as std) the wing has tbs unify and tbs receiver (not sure which one) Can I use any of the crossfire transmitters (lite/micro/nano) in the taranis ? Thanks
@CurryKitten3 жыл бұрын
Ah ok - makes more sense now. Yes - if you want to get a Crossfire to continue with the wing (and you have a regular Taranis X9D like in the video) then I'd go with the Crossfire Micro TX. Pretty cheap and more range than you'll ever need. Alternatively you could remove the crossfire RX and replace with a FrSky receiver so you wouldn't need a module. As far as wings go it pretty much comes down to range - where I'd be perfectly happy flying a standard 2.4Ghz rx up to around 2km (at a reasonable height) but if you want to go further (or keep low with some distance) then crossfire is a nice thing to have. Also depends on how much effort it's going to be to swap the rx over though

Simple question: Is the improvement in control and RSSI worth the extra cost _in your opinion_ ? (single quad basis only)
@CurryKitten6 жыл бұрын
That's one of those questions where the answer is really "your milage may vary". I feel it would be worth it for me - having those few dodgy areas in the field where I couldn't go were annoying, and the fact that the link is so solid at any altitude really makes me feel I can go anywhere/do anything. The control improvement is the icing on the cake :) It's expensive when looked at standalone, but on the basis that you get more range and better control, you could look at it as being a lot cheaper than buying a whole new radio

First....:)....Buying a LR Crossfire to put on a quad you are going to fly around your head is properly stupid IMO. My XM Plus receiver (on a quad) has range coming out of its ears, and the signal propagation at very low level / far out is pretty good too. I noticed your FrSky antennas were wrapped around that Pagoda Wayne...lol. TBS stuff really isn't cheap, the low latency is a moot point IMO. Im also using the FCC Firmware on my Taranis, not LBT....I assume you are also..? Is 868mhz even legal in the UK..?
@CurryKitten6 жыл бұрын
The latency improvement in Crossfire did surprise me, it feels like a different quad - so worth it on that basis - trust me, it's not a moot point, you'll have to fly it yourself to understand why. As far as range goes, yep FrSky does very well, but I would suggest it varies location to location. The X215 came like that, so I didn't change the antennas, but in my 20 other quads where they are nicely setup, there is still the RF deadzone and places that I can't go as low as I want to because the RSSI drops off a cliff, or the telemetry goes into critical. Yes, using the FCC firmware, 868Mhz is legal in the UK to 25mw - TBS actually have a CE mark, and publish their EC conformity in the manual
@Ddraig62SPD6 жыл бұрын
Wayne mentioned that he wasn't specifically testing long range in the video .... although, ironically it clearly helped with short range signal penetration on the quad used :) I flew my first crossfire setup last week and I was getting 99% Link Quality at 1.5Km out compared to 200m on my FrSky XSR. I could have gone further but I needed to get back before the LiPo died! I agree that the TBS stuff is pricey but the Crossfire/Unify combo worked fine for me and it was a breeze to set up. I'm now about to try the same setup on a wing. I was tempted by the Frsky R9 system but the EU/LBT version is somewhat crippled and I'm not sure whether the FCC version will run on 868MHz. Cheers.
@CurryKitten6 жыл бұрын
On a wing, and given reasonable altitude, 10km should be a breeze. I was slightly confused about the R9 as well as far as EU/FCC. I've got 3 Taranis's (Tarani ?) on FCC firmware, but does that mean the module will be forced into 915mhz. Obviously I'd want to set it at 868Mhz with any mw power I chose. Not sure if that's possible, and I can't get FrSky to answer my emails anyway. Still looking to try and test the module/rx somehow.

"Tarani" ... PMSL Wayne! TBH I'm still a bit nervous about the wing maiden as it's my first attempt on a wing other than trainer modes on a glider and a single landing on a foamie. I'll stay within 1km until I've trimmed it out and checked out the iNav modes ;) I'm in the same boat as you with the R9 ... running the Taranis on FCC f/ware but can't find any concrete info about running the R9 Tx/Rx combo at 868MHz. If I dig up any nuggets I'll let you know. Cheers, Steve

It's not worth trying to understand why people don't like some stuff... there's just an inevitability about not being able to please everyone :D

LOL your "supposed to have it at 25mw but whatever" In the US I'm supposed to stay below 400FT but whatever LOL. I just Installed A Crossfire and I am waiting for daylight tomorrow to try it out.

Yes - when you are on an unused band, but the limit is arbitrarily set very low, it annoys me.
