You know when someone is a San Francisco native, they remember the muni bus numbers! When Michael and Karl started jamming in this video, Michael came in with a bass open bass that I remember there would be a line of drums at the beach as well as other parks played!

Hey my Brother KP. I love this interview. I love you Papa. Michael Carabello. I met you in Allentown,Pa thru Karl when the Santana IV CD came out the original guys opened for the current Santana band ,and then Journey headlined. I had all the original guys sign the Santana IV vinyl album and Michael told me he did the artwork for that album. Carabello is a legend and is such a humble guy who I was so excited to meet. He even gave me his phone number. Great job here too Karl

At 12 y.o. I went alone to see Woodstock at the Mission Theatre in Hayward, CA. I was so proud and impressed to see Santana play. You really did steal the show. I always wanted to live in SF after that. I settled in the Bayview (30 years)! The “Sound of the Streets” is the heartbeat of life!

Brings back fond memories and similar experiences when My Dad use to take me to muni pier for crab net fishing. Did the same thing when I had to go to the bathroom at the maritime museum and heard the conga player up in the cement bleachers. Also took the muni 25 bryant. Caught the bus at corner Of Santos and Geneva Ave. I live a few blocks from Sunnydale project. Also Dolores park and hippie hill golden gate park which was a a large influence. My experience was so much alike. I current play the congas and could not live without it.

Mike was a childhood friend who taught me a lot about sports, and other things, Years later I was tending bar at Bajone's on 22nd and Valencia, one of the honest clubs in the city, Wednesday night was Salsa, We has a band that would back the club. They bought Karl in to play, he was only 18 at the time, but we all knew he was going places. So many names are being mentioned of old friends and great times.

Hi Carl,---what I really like about this interview with Michael, is you really approach it almost like a fan ----and I love all the detail you got out Michael about the early days of Cal Tjader, Chico Hamilton, about Victor and Willie. Even though I had Heard tons of stories doing the Voices of Latin rock book. What I like about these deep dive things like what you have done here, not only is your enthusiasm is brilliant, but also I'm learning stuff that I didn't know before about Michael, about Carlos and about the whole scene. You can't get it all in one book. And by the way thanks to bigging up the book during the interview. Michael paid me $10,000 for all photos, just kidding!!!! Some of the pictures in the book like John Santos and Michael when he was living in Fairfax, I actually took the photos myself, I wanted to have some of my own photographic stuff on the book. Thanks again Karl---- brilliant brilliant work---I look forward to hearing much more of these interviews and also the background is nicely lit and the graphics are great ----------Best wishes man and thank you....

Great interview Karl Congratulations brother, you are a natural! you let your guest tell the story and what a story it is on so many levels - from incredible humble beginnings. It brought back memories man from the days I was a music student and would go to Drumland to inquiry about the Vibes and how much I needed to save LOL. You guys mentioned John Rae!! Back in 1981 I heard Cal Tjader for the first time, Latin Jazz music from the Grammy Award Winning album "La Onda Va Bien". That got me started practicing nothing but scales and music theory for about a year with the hope that I could take Vibes lessons with him. The time to ask came, I went to see him at the Great American Music Hall and he told me he was not taking on students, that he was busy touring - that was disappointing but he recommended me to John Rae! John was a great all around musician/percussionist who had worked with Cal Tjader, (he was his road manager too), but had also worked playing vibes with Mongo Santamaria and George Shearing. He had very good technique, very different from my classically trained percussion teacher at the music school. John helped me get a better and clearer understanding of Jazz improvisation in reality making things simpler. I relate to the way you study percussionists and as you said analyzed and learned from Michael Carabello and many others that you had the pleasure to work with later on your life. Just one more thing, I wish Michael could've told us more about his experience at Woodstock! Simpler details of before, during and after - that movie really resonated with kids that were into music.

I was wondering if Michael has a nickname. Because some heavy Dutch Santana fans calls him " The Duster". This is the way he plays his congas, like dusting the heads. I think that makes his tone.

Two great LEGENDS 🪘🪘 These guys are so real musicians caring. And sharing That’s what makes these guys As a 🥝 🪘🪘player ii had to listen to records tapes and 💿 cause no one around that played Latin music So I had to listen real hard and learn like MC and CANDIDO RAUL REKOW Who said play your own Style I had too I wish i I could have jammed with these guys KARL PERAZZO favourite player why because of his own style and how he has brought congoes and LATIN Drums sounds to the Masses World 🌎 wide he brought them into the future by playing them with people Like C SANTANA the Late Great RAUL REKOW RIp❤. And many more great players this is why I rank him as one of the greatest cause he blended all of the greatest players into a melting pot And his own style Love my G B Lp congoes

Angel got me in el chicano for a while then I got a call from somebody to join Chepitos band. Zorro in San Francisco. I’ll let them know that I was bringing Angel with me. And to check him out.
